1 Better a poor person walking in integrity than one who is perverse ⌞in his speech⌟ and is a fool.
1 É melhor ser pobre e honesto do que mentiroso e tolo.
2 Also, a life without knowledge is not good, and he who moves quickly with his feet ⌞misses the mark⌟.
2 Agir sem pensar não é bom; quem se apressa erra o caminho.
3 As for the folly of humankind, its way leads to ruin, and against Yahweh his heart will rage.
3 A falta de juízo é o que faz a pessoa cair na desgraça; no entanto ela põe a culpa em Deus, o Senhor .
4 Wealth adds many friends, but the poor will be left by his friends.
4 Os ricos arranjam muitos amigos, mas o pobre não consegue nem conservar os poucos que tem.
5 A witness of falsehood will not go unpunished, and he who breathes lies will not escape.
5 A falsa testemunha não poderá escapar do castigo.
6 Many will seek favor before the generous, and everyone is the friend of a man of gifts.
6 Todos procuram agradar as pessoas importantes; todos querem ser amigos de quem dá presentes.
7 All the brothers of the poor, if they hate him, how much more will his friends keep away from him. He pursues them with words, and they are gone.
7 Se o pobre é desprezado até pelos seus próprios irmãos, não é de admirar que os seus amigos se afastem dele. Ele se cansa de procurar os amigos, mas eles não se importam com ele.
8 He who acquires wisdom loves himself; he who guards understanding loves to find good.
8 Quem procura ter sabedoria ama a sua vida, e quem age com inteligência encontra a felicidade.
9 A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes lies will perish.
9 A falsa testemunha é castigada e certamente será condenada à morte.
10 For a fool living in luxury is not fitting, any more than it is for a slave to rule over princes.
10 Não é bom que os tolos vivam no luxo, nem que os escravos governem os príncipes.
11 The understanding of a person makes him slow to his ⌞anger⌟, and his glory overlooks offense.
11 A pessoa sensata controla o seu gênio, e a sua grandeza é perdoar quem a ofende.
12 The rage of a king growls like a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.
12 A raiva do rei é como o rugido de um leão, mas a sua bondade é como o orvalho sobre as plantas.
13 A foolish child is a ruin to his father, and the quarreling of a woman is a continuous dripping.
13 Um filho sem juízo pode levar o pai à desgraça. Uma esposa que vive resmungando é como água que pinga sem parar.
14 A house and wealth are an inheritance from fathers, but from Yahweh comes a woman who is prudent.
14 Um homem pode herdar dos seus pais casa e dinheiro, mas só Deus pode dar uma esposa sensata.
15 Laziness will bring on a deep sleep, and a person of idleness will suffer hunger.
15 Quem é preguiçoso e dorminhoco acabará passando fome.
16 He who guards commandments guards his life; he who is careless of his ways will be killed.
16 Quem obedece às leis de Deus vive mais; quem despreza os seus ensinamentos morrerá.
17 He who lends to Yahweh is he who is kind to the poor, and his benefits he will repay to him.
17 Ser bondoso com os pobres é emprestar ao Senhor , e ele nos devolve o bem que fazemos.
18 Discipline your child, for there is hope, but on his destruction do not set your desire.
18 Corrija os seus filhos enquanto eles têm idade para aprender; mas não os mate de pancadas.
19 A hot-tempered person pays a penalty; if you rescue him, you will do it yet again.
19 Deixe que a pessoa de mau gênio sofra as consequências disso, pois, se você a ajudar uma vez, terá de ajudar de novo.
20 Listen to advice and accept instruction so that you will gain wisdom for your ⌞future⌟.
20 Ouça os conselhos e esteja pronto para aprender; assim, um dia você será sábio.
21 Many plans are in the heart of a man, but the purpose of Yahweh will be established.
21 As pessoas fazem muitos planos, mas quem decide é Deus, o Senhor .
22 The craving of a man is his steadfast loyalty, and it is better to be poor than a ⌞liar⌟.
22 O que se espera de uma pessoa é que seja fiel; é melhor ser pobre do que mentiroso.
23 Fear of Yahweh leads to life; he who is filled with it will rest—he will not suffer harm.
23 Quem teme o Senhor terá uma vida longa, feliz e tranquila.
24 A lazy person buries his hand in the dish, and even to his mouth he will not bring it back.
24 Existe gente que tem preguiça até de pôr a comida na própria boca.
25 The scoffer you shall strike, and the simple, may they learn prudence, and reprove the intelligent and he will gain knowledge.
25 Os orgulhosos devem ser castigados para que as pessoas simples aprendam uma lição de humildade; quem é sábio aprende quando é corrigido.
26 He who does violence to a father, he who chases away a mother, is a child who causes shame and brings reproach.
26 Quem maltrata o seu pai ou toca a sua mãe de casa não tem vergonha e não presta.
27 Cease to listen to instruction, my child, ⌞and you will stray⌟ from sayings of knowledge.
27 Filho, se você parar de aprender, logo esquecerá o que sabe.
28 A worthless witness will mock justice, and the mouth of the wicked will devour iniquity.
28 A testemunha de mau caráter zomba da justiça. Os maus têm fome de fazer o mal.
29 Judgments are prepared for the scoffers, and flogging for the back of fools.
29 Mais cedo ou mais tarde quem zomba dos outros será julgado, e quem não tem juízo será castigado.
