1 ⌞Afterward⌟ Job opened his mouth and cursed his day.
1 Depois disto abriu Jó a sua boca, e amaldiçoou o seu dia.
2 Thus Job ⌞spoke up⌟ and said,
2 E Jó, falando, disse:
3 “Let the day perish on which I was born, and the night that said, ‘A man-child is conceived.’
3 Pereça o dia em que nasci, e a noite em que se disse: Foi concebido um homem!
4 Let that day become darkness; may God not seek it from above, nor may daylight shine on it.
4 Converta-se aquele dia em trevas; e Deus, lá de cima, não tenha cuidado dele, nem resplandeça sobre ele a luz.
5 Let darkness and deep shadow claim it; let clouds settle on it; let them terrify it with the blackness of day.
5 Contaminem-no as trevas e a sombra da morte; habitem sobre ele nuvens; a escuridão do dia o espante!
6 Let darkness seize that night; let it not rejoice among the days of the year; let it not enter among the number of the months.
6 Quanto àquela noite, dela se apodere a escuridão; e não se regozije ela entre os dias do ano; e não entre no número dos meses!
7 Look, let that night become barren; let a joyful song not enter it.
7 Ah! que solitária seja aquela noite, e nela não entre voz de júbilo!
8 Let those who curse the day curse it, those who are skilled at rousing Leviathan.
8 Amaldiçoem-na aqueles que amaldiçoam o dia, que estão prontos para suscitar o seu pranto.
9 Let the stars of its dawn be dark; let it hope for light but there be none, and let it not see the eyelids of dawn
9 Escureçam-se as estrelas do seu crepúsculo; que espere a luz, e não venha; e não veja as pálpebras da alva;
10 because it did not shut the doors of my mother’s womb, nor did it hide trouble from my eyes.
10 Porque não fechou as portas do ventre; nem escondeu dos meus olhos a canseira.
11 “Why did I not die at birth? Why did I not come forth from the womb and expire?
11 Por que não morri eu desde a madre? E em saindo do ventre, não expirei?
12 Why did the knees receive me and the breasts, that I could suck?
12 Por que me receberam os joelhos? E por que os peitos, para que mamasse?
13 For now I would lie down, and I would be at peace; I would be asleep; then ⌞I would be at rest⌟
13 Porque já agora jazeria e repousaria; dormiria, e então haveria repouso para mim.
14 with kings and counselors of the earth, who ⌞rebuild⌟ ruins for themselves,
14 Com os reis e conselheiros da terra, que para si edificam casas nos lugares assolados,
15 or with high officials ⌞who have gold⌟, who fill up their houses with silver.
15 Ou com os príncipes que possuem ouro, que enchem as suas casas de prata,
16 Or why was I not hidden like a miscarriage, like infants who did not see the light?
16 Ou como aborto oculto, não existiria; como as crianças que não viram a luz.
17 There the wicked cease from troubling, and there the ⌞weary⌟ are at rest;
17 Ali os maus cessam de perturbar; e ali repousam os cansados.
18 the prisoners are at ease together; they do not hear the oppressor’s voice.
18 Ali os presos juntamente repousam, e não ouvem a voz do exator.
19 The small and the great are there, and the slave is free from his masters.
19 Ali está o pequeno e o grande, e o servo livre de seu senhor.
20 “Why does he give light to one in misery and life to those bitter of soul,
20 Por que se dá luz ao miserável, e vida aos amargurados de ânimo?
21 who wait for death, but ⌞it does not come⌟, and search for it more than for treasures,
21 Que esperam a morte, e ela não vem; e cavam em procura dela mais do que de tesouros ocultos;
22 who rejoice ⌞exceedingly⌟, and they are glad when they find the grave?
22 Que de alegria saltam, e exultam, achando a sepultura?
23 Why does he give light to a man whose way is hidden, and God has fenced him in all around?
23 Por que se dá luz ao homem, cujo caminho é oculto, e a quem Deus o encobriu?
24 For my sighing comes ⌞before⌟ my bread, and my groanings gush forth like water
24 Porque antes do meu pão vem o meu suspiro; e os meus gemidos se derramam como água.
25 because the dread that I ⌞feel⌟ has come upon me, and what I feared befalls me.
25 Porque aquilo que temia me sobreveio; e o que receava me aconteceu.
26 I am not at ease, and I am not at peace, and I do not have rest, thus turmoil has come.”
26 Nunca estive tranqüilo, nem sosseguei, nem repousei, mas veio sobre mim a perturbação.
