1 Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, you are very great, clad in awful splendour,
1 Ó Senhor Deus, que todo o meu ser te louve! Ó como és grandioso! Estás vestido de majestade e de
2 covered with robe of light. You stretch out the heavens like the cloth of a tent.
2 e te cobres de luz. Estendes os céus como se fossem uma barraca
3 He lays the beams of his chambers on water. He takes dark clouds for his chariot, and rides on the wings of the wind.
3 e constróis a tua casa sobre as águas lá de cima. Usas as nuvens como o teu carro de guerra e voas nas asas do vento.
4 He takes the winds for his messengers, the fire and the flame for his servants.
4 Fazes com que os ventos sejam os teus mensageiros e com que os relâmpagos sejam os teus servidores.
5 He founded the earth upon pillars, to sustain it unshaken forever.
5 Tu puseste a terra bem firme sobre os seus alicerces, e assim ela nunca será abalada.
6 With the garment of ocean he covered it, waters towered over the mountains.
6 Cobriste a terra com o oceano profundo, como se ele fosse uma e as águas ficaram acima das montanhas.
7 But at your rebuke they fled, scared by the roar of your thunder,
7 Porém, quando repreendeste as águas, elas fugiram; quando ouviram o teu grito de comando, saíram correndo.
8 mountains rose, valleys sank down to the place appointed for them.
8 As águas correram pelos montes e desceram para os vales, indo ao lugar que preparaste para elas.
9 They dared not pass the bounds set for them, or cover the earth any more.
9 Tu puseste um limite para as águas a fim de que não cobrissem de novo a terra.
10 He sent brooks into the valleys, they meander between the mountains.
10 Tu fazes surgir nascentes nos vales, e os rios correm entre os montes.
11 The wild beasts all drink from them, and the wild asses quench their thirst.
11 Da sua água bebem todos os animais selvagens; com ela os jumentos selvagens matam a sede.
12 The birds have their home by the banks, and sing in the branches.
12 Nas margens dos rios, os pássaros fazem os seus ninhos e cantam entre os galhos das árvores.
13 From his chambers above he gives drink to the mountains, and satisfies earth with the vials of heaven.
13 Do céu tu envias chuvas para os montes, e a terra fica cheia das tuas bênçãos.
14 He makes grass grow for the cattle, and herbs for people. He brings bread out of the earth;
14 Fazes crescer capim para o gado e verduras e cereais para as pessoas, que assim tiram da terra o seu alimento.
15 wine, to gladden hearts; oil, to make faces shine; bread, to strengthen hearts.
15 Fazes a terra produzir o vinho, que deixa a gente feliz; o azeite, que alegra; e o pão, que dá forças.
16 The trees of the Lord drink their fill the cedars he planted on Lebanon,
16 Muita chuva cai sobre as árvores de Deus, o sobre os cedros, que ele plantou nos montes Líbanos.
17 where the little birds build their nest, and the stork whose home is the cypress.
17 Ali os pássaros fazem os seus ninhos, e as cegonhas constroem as suas casas nos pinheiros.
18 The high hills are for the wild goats, and the rocks are for coneys to hide in.
18 Os cabritos selvagens vivem no alto das montanhas, e as lebres se escondem nos rochedos.
19 He created the moon to mark seasons, and told the sun when to set.
19 Tu fizeste a lua para marcar os meses; o sol sabe a hora de se pôr.
20 You make it dark: night comes, when all the wild beasts creep out.
20 Tu fizeste a noite, e todos os animais selvagens saem quando escurece.
21 Young lions that roar for their prey, seeking their meat from God.
21 Os leões novos rugem enquanto caçam, procurando a comida que Deus dá.
22 At sunrise they slink away, and lie down in their dens.
22 Porém, quando o sol aparece, eles voltam e vão se deitar nas suas covas.
23 Then people go forth to their work, and toil till evening.
23 Então as pessoas saem para o serviço e trabalham até a tarde.
24 How many, O Lord, are your works, all of them made in wisdom! The earth is filled with your creatures.
24 Ó Senhor , tu tens feito tantas coisas e foi com sabedoria que as fizeste. A terra está cheia das tuas criaturas.
25 And there is the great broad sea, where are countless things in motion, living creatures, both great and small.
25 Ali está o mar imenso, enorme, onde vivem animais grandes e pequenos, tantos, que não podem ser contados.
26 There go the ships, and the Leviathan you made to play there.
26 No mar passam os navios, e nele brinca Leviatã , o monstro marinho que tu criaste.
27 They all look in hope to you, to give them their food in due season.
27 Todos esses animais dependem de ti, esperando que lhes dês alimento no tempo certo.
28 And you give with open hand; they gather and eat to their heart’s desire.
28 Tu dás a comida, e eles comem e ficam satisfeitos.
29 When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take their breath away, they die and go back to their dust.
29 Quando escondes o rosto, ficam com medo; se cortas a respiração que lhes dás, eles morrem e voltam ao pó de onde saíram.
30 But a breath from your lips creates them, and renews the face of the earth.
30 Porém, quando lhes dás o sopro de vida, eles nascem; e assim dás vida nova à terra.
31 May the glory of the Lord be forever, may the Lord rejoice in his works.
31 Que a glória de Deus, o Senhor , dure para sempre! Que ele se alegre com aquilo que fez!
32 A glance of his makes the earth tremble, a touch of his makes the hills smoke.
32 O Senhor olha para a terra, e ela treme; toca nas montanhas, e elas soltam fumaça.
33 I will sing to the Lord while I live, I will play to my God while I am.
33 Cantarei louvores ao Senhor enquanto eu viver; cantarei ao meu Deus a vida inteira.
34 May my musing be sweet to him. for I rejoice in the Lord.
34 Que o Senhor fique contente com a minha canção, pois é dele que vem a minha alegria!
35 But may sinners be swept from the earth, and the wicked vanish forever. O my soul, bless the Lord. Hallelujah.
35 Que desapareçam da terra aqueles que não querem saber de Deus, e que os maus deixem de existir! Que todo o meu ser te louve, ó
