1 And Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said:
1 Então respondeu Elifaz, de Temã:
2 Shall one try a word with you, you who are weary? But who can hold back with words?
2 "Se alguém se aventurar a dizer-lhe uma palavra, você ficará impaciente? Mas quem pode refrear as palavras?
3 Behold, you have instructed many; and you have made weak hands strong.
3 Pense bem! Você ensinou a tantos; fortaleceu mãos fracas.
4 Your words have upheld him who was falling, and you have made feeble knees strong.
4 Suas palavras davam firmeza aos que tropeçavam; você fortaleceu joelhos vacilantes.
5 But now it has come upon you, and you faint. It touches you, and you are troubled.
5 Mas agora que se vê em dificuldade, você se desanima; quando você é atingido, fica prostrado.
6 Is not your reverence your hope; your hope the uprightness of your ways?
6 Sua vida piedosa não lhe inspira confiança, e o seu procedimento irrepreensível não lhe dá esperança?
7 I beg you, remember, Who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the righteous cut off?
7 "Reflita agora: Qual foi o inocente que chegou a perecer? Onde foi que os íntegros sofreram destruição?
8 As I have seen, the ones who plow iniquity and sow misery reap the same.
8 Pelo que tenho observado, quem cultiva o mal e semeia maldade, isso também colherá.
9 They perish from the breath of God, and by the blast of His anger they are consumed.
9 Pelo sopro de Deus são destruídos; pelo vento de sua ira eles perecem.
10 The lion roars; and the voice of the lion and the teeth of the young lions are broken;
10 Os leões podem rugir e rosnar, mas até os dentes dos leões fortes se quebram.
11 the old lion is perishing for lack of prey; and the lioness' offspring are scattered.
11 O leão morre por falta de presa, e os filhotes da leoa se dispersam.
12 Now a word was stolen to me, and my ear received a whisper of it.
12 "Disseram-me uma palavra em segredo, da qual os meus ouvidos captaram um murmúrio.
13 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on men,
13 Em meio a sonhos perturbadores da noite, quando cai sono profundo sobre os homens,
14 fear and trembling met me, and made my many bones dread.
14 temor e tremor se apoderaram de mim e fizeram estremecer todos os meus ossos.
15 Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up;
15 Um espírito roçou o meu rosto, e os pêlos do meu corpo se arrepiaram.
16 it stood still, but I could not discern its form; an image was before my eyes; there was silence; then I heard a voice:
16 Ele parou, mas não pude identificá-lo. Um vulto se pôs diante dos meus olhos, e ouvi uma voz suave, que dizia:
17 Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be purer than his Maker?
17 ‘Poderá algum mortal ser mais justo que Deus? Poderá algum homem ser mais puro que o seu Criador?
18 Behold, He puts no trust in His servants; and He charges His angels with folly!
18 Se Deus não confia em seus servos, se vê erro em seus anjos e os acusa,
19 How much more those that dwell in houses of clay; whose foundation is in the dust; they crush them before the moth!
19 quanto mais nos que moram em casas de barro, cujos alicerces estão no pó! São mais facilmente esmagados que uma traça!
20 They are shattered from morning till evening; they perish forever with no one regarding.
20 Entre o alvorecer e o crepúsculo são despedaçados; perecem para sempre, sem sequer serem notados.
21 Is not their tent cord pulled up within them? They die, but not with wisdom.
21 Não é certo que as cordas de suas tendas são arrancadas, e eles morrem sem sabedoria? ’
