1 “Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook? Or ⌞can you tie down its mouth with a cord⌟?
1 Podes tu fisgar o leviatã com um anzol? Ou sua língua com um cordão que tu deixas cair?
2 Can you put a rope in its nose? Or can you pierce its jawbone with a hook?
2 Podes pôr um anzol no seu nariz, ou furar sua mandíbula com um espinho?
3 Will it make numerous pleas for mercy to you? Or will it speak gentle words to you?
3 Fará ele muitas súplicas a ti? Falará ele palavras suaves a ti?
4 Will it make a covenant with you? Will you take it as a slave forever?
4 Fará ele um pacto contigo, ou o tomarás tu por servo para sempre?
5 Will you play with it as with birds and put it on a leash for your girls?
5 Brincarás com ele como com um pássaro, ou o prenderás por causa de tuas donzelas?
6 Will guildsmen bargain over it? Will they divide it between tradesmen?
6 Farão teus companheiros um banquete com ele, ou o repartirão entre os mercadores?
7 Can you fill its kin with harpoons or its head with fish spears?
7 Podes tu encher sua pele com ganchos, ou a sua cabeça com arpões de pescadores?
8 Lay your hands on it; think about the battle—you will not do it again!
8 Põe a tua mão sobre ele, lembra-te da batalha, e não o faças mais.
9 “Look, ⌞the hope of capturing it⌟ is false. Will one be hurled down even at its sight?
9 Eis que a esperança dele é vã, não será alguém humilhado só de vê-lo?
10 Is it not fierce when somebody stirs it? Who then is he who would stand ⌞before it⌟?
10 Ninguém é tão feroz que ouse atiçá-lo; quem, então, é capaz de ficar de pé diante de mim?
11 Who has come to confront me, that I should repay him? Under all the heavens, ⌞it belongs to me⌟.
11 Quem me precedeu para que eu devesse retribuí-lo? O que quer que esteja debaixo de todo o céu é meu.
12 “I will not keep quiet concerning its limbs or concerning the extent of its might and the gracefulness of its frame.
12 Eu não esconderei suas partes, nem seu poder, nem sua graciosa proporção.
13 Who can strip off ⌞its outer covering⌟? Who can penetrate its double harness?
13 Quem pode descobrir a face de sua vestimenta? Ou quem pode ir a ele com sua rédea dobrada?
14 Who can open the doors of its face? Its teeth all around are fearsome.
14 Quem pode abrir as portas da sua face? Seus dentes são terríveis ao redor.
15 Its back has scales of shields; it is shut up closely as with a seal.
15 Suas escamas são seu orgulho, fechadas juntamente como por um selo apertado.
16 They are close ⌞to one another⌟— even the air cannot come between them.
16 Uma é tão próxima à outra, que nem o ar consegue passar entre elas.
17 They are joined ⌞one to another⌟; they cling together and cannot be separated.
17 Elas se ligam umas às outras, ficam juntas, de maneira que não podem ser separadas.
18 “Its snorting flashes forth light, and its eyes are ⌞red like dawn⌟.
18 Através de suas necessidades uma luz brilha, e seus olhos são como as pálpebras da manhã.
19 Torches go from its mouth; sparks of fire shoot out.
19 Da sua boca saem tochas, e centelhas de fogo escapam.
20 Smoke comes from its nostrils as from a kettle boiling and burning bulrushes.
20 Das suas narinas sai fumaça, como saem de uma panela fervente, ou de um caldeirão.
21 Its breath kindles charcoal, and a flame comes from its mouth.
21 O seu fôlego acende os carvões; e uma chama sai de sua boca.
22 “Strength abides in its neck, and dismay dances ⌞before it⌟.
22 No seu pescoço permanece a força; e a tristeza se transforma em alegria diante dele.
23 Its flesh’s folds of skin cling together; it is cast on it—it will not be moved.
23 Os flocos de sua carne estão juntos; são firmes neles mesmos; eles não podem ser movidos.
24 Its heart is cast as stone; yes, it is cast as the lower millstone.
24 O seu coração é firme como uma pedra; sim, duro como um pedaço da mó inferior.
25 ⌞When it raises itself⌟, the mighty ones are terrified; they retreat because of its thrashing.
25 Quando ele se levanta, os poderosos temem; por causa de rupturas eles se purificam.
26 Reaching it with the sword does not avail, nor with the spear, the dart, or the javelin.
26 A espada daquele que lhe tocar não consegue impedi-lo; nem a lança, nem o dardo, nem a malha de ferro.
27 It regards iron as straw, bronze as rotten wood.
27 Ele considera o ferro como palha, e o bronze como pau podre.
28 ⌞An arrow⌟ will not make it flee; sling stones are turned to stubble for it.
28 A flecha não pode fazê-lo fugir; as pedras das fundas se lhe tornam em restolho.
29 Clubs are regarded as stubble, and it laughs at the short sword’s rattle.
29 Os bengalões são contados como restolho; ele ri do brandir da lança.
30 “Its underparts are shards of a potsherd; it moves over mud like a threshing sledge.
30 Pedras afiadas estão debaixo dele; ele espalha coisas pontudas e afiadas sobre a lama.
31 It makes the deep boil like a cooking pot; it makes the sea like a pot of ointment.
31 Ele faz o abismo ferver como uma panela; ele faz o mar como uma panela de unguento.
32 Behind it, ⌞it leaves a glistening wake⌟; one would think that the deep has gray hair.
32 Ele faz brilhar um caminho após si; alguém até pensaria que o abismo ficou grisalho.
33 “⌞On the ground it has no equal⌟— a creature without fear.
33 Sobre a terra não há o que se lhe compare, que tenha sido criado sem medo.
34 It observes all the lofty; it is king ⌞over all that are proud⌟.”
34 Ele contempla todas as coisas altivas; ele é um rei sobre todos os filhos do orgulho.
