1 “Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook? Or ⌞can you tie down its mouth with a cord⌟?
1 Poderás tirar com anzol o leviatã, ou apertar-lhe a língua com uma corda?
2 Can you put a rope in its nose? Or can you pierce its jawbone with a hook?
2 Poderás meter-lhe uma corda de junco no nariz, ou com um gancho furar a sua queixada?
3 Will it make numerous pleas for mercy to you? Or will it speak gentle words to you?
3 Porventura te fará muitas súplicas, ou brandamente te falará?
4 Will it make a covenant with you? Will you take it as a slave forever?
4 Fará ele aliança contigo, ou o tomarás tu por servo para sempre?
5 Will you play with it as with birds and put it on a leash for your girls?
5 Brincarás com ele, como se fora um pássaro, ou o prenderás para tuas meninas?
6 Will guildsmen bargain over it? Will they divide it between tradesmen?
6 Farão os sócios de pesca tráfico dele, ou o dividirão entre os negociantes?
7 Can you fill its kin with harpoons or its head with fish spears?
7 Poderás encher-lhe a pele de arpões, ou a cabeça de fisgas?
8 Lay your hands on it; think about the battle—you will not do it again!
8 Põe a tua mão sobre ele; lembra-te da peleja; nunca mais o farás!
9 “Look, ⌞the hope of capturing it⌟ is false. Will one be hurled down even at its sight?
9 Eis que é vã a esperança de apanhá-lo; pois não será um homem derrubado só ao vê-lo?
10 Is it not fierce when somebody stirs it? Who then is he who would stand ⌞before it⌟?
10 Ninguém há tão ousado, que se atreva a despertá-lo; quem, pois, é aquele que pode erguer-se diante de mim?
11 Who has come to confront me, that I should repay him? Under all the heavens, ⌞it belongs to me⌟.
11 Quem primeiro me deu a mim, para que eu haja de retribuir-lhe? Pois tudo quanto existe debaixo de todo céu é meu.
12 “I will not keep quiet concerning its limbs or concerning the extent of its might and the gracefulness of its frame.
12 Não me calarei a respeito dos seus membros, nem da sua grande força, nem da graça da sua estrutura.
13 Who can strip off ⌞its outer covering⌟? Who can penetrate its double harness?
13 Quem lhe pode tirar o vestido exterior? Quem lhe penetrará a couraça dupla?
14 Who can open the doors of its face? Its teeth all around are fearsome.
14 Quem jamais abriu as portas do seu rosto? Pois em roda dos seus dentes está o terror.
15 Its back has scales of shields; it is shut up closely as with a seal.
15 As suas fortes escamas são o seu orgulho, cada uma fechada como por um selo apertado.
16 They are close ⌞to one another⌟— even the air cannot come between them.
16 Uma à outra se chega tão perto, que nem o ar passa por entre elas.
17 They are joined ⌞one to another⌟; they cling together and cannot be separated.
17 Umas às outras se ligam; tanto aderem entre si, que não se podem separar.
18 “Its snorting flashes forth light, and its eyes are ⌞red like dawn⌟.
18 Os seus espirros fazem resplandecer a luz, e os seus olhos são como as pestanas da alva.
19 Torches go from its mouth; sparks of fire shoot out.
19 Da sua boca saem tochas; faíscas de fogo saltam dela.
20 Smoke comes from its nostrils as from a kettle boiling and burning bulrushes.
20 Dos seus narizes procede fumaça, como de uma panela que ferve, e de juncos que ardem.
21 Its breath kindles charcoal, and a flame comes from its mouth.
21 O seu hálito faz incender os carvões, e da sua boca sai uma chama.
22 “Strength abides in its neck, and dismay dances ⌞before it⌟.
22 No seu pescoço reside a força; e diante dele anda saltando o terror.
23 Its flesh’s folds of skin cling together; it is cast on it—it will not be moved.
23 Os tecidos da sua carne estão pegados entre si; ela é firme sobre ele, não se pode mover.
24 Its heart is cast as stone; yes, it is cast as the lower millstone.
24 O seu coração é firme como uma pedra; sim, firme como a pedra inferior duma mó.
25 ⌞When it raises itself⌟, the mighty ones are terrified; they retreat because of its thrashing.
25 Quando ele se levanta, os valentes são atemorizados, e por causa da consternação ficam fora de si.
26 Reaching it with the sword does not avail, nor with the spear, the dart, or the javelin.
26 Se alguém o atacar com a espada, essa não poderá penetrar; nem tampouco a lança, nem o dardo, nem o arpão.
27 It regards iron as straw, bronze as rotten wood.
27 Ele considera o ferro como palha, e o bronze como pau podre.
28 ⌞An arrow⌟ will not make it flee; sling stones are turned to stubble for it.
28 A seta não o poderá fazer fugir; para ele as pedras das fundas se tornam em restolho.
29 Clubs are regarded as stubble, and it laughs at the short sword’s rattle.
29 Os bastões são reputados como juncos, e ele se ri do brandir da lança.
30 “Its underparts are shards of a potsherd; it moves over mud like a threshing sledge.
30 Debaixo do seu ventre há pontas agudas; ele se estende como um trilho sobre o lodo.
31 It makes the deep boil like a cooking pot; it makes the sea like a pot of ointment.
31 As profundezas faz ferver, como uma panela; torna o mar como uma vasilha de ungüento.
32 Behind it, ⌞it leaves a glistening wake⌟; one would think that the deep has gray hair.
32 Após si deixa uma vereda luminosa; parece o abismo tornado em brancura de cãs.
33 “⌞On the ground it has no equal⌟— a creature without fear.
33 Na terra não há coisa que se lhe possa comparar; pois foi feito para estar sem pavor.
34 It observes all the lofty; it is king ⌞over all that are proud⌟.”
34 Ele vê tudo o que é alto; é rei sobre todos os filhos da soberba.
