1 Then Yahweh answered Job from the storm, and he said,
1 Então, do meio de um redemoinho, o Senhor respondeu a Jó e disse:
2 “Who is this darkening counsel by words without knowledge?
2 “Quem é este que obscurece os meus planos com palavras sem conhecimento?
3 ⌞Prepare yourself for a difficult task like a man⌟, and I will question you, and you shall declare to me.
3 Cinja os lombos como homem, pois eu lhe farei perguntas, e você me responderá.”
4 “Where were you at my laying the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you possess understanding.
4 “Onde você estava, quando eu lancei os fundamentos da terra? Responda, se você tem entendimento.
5 Who determined its measurement? Yes, you do know. Or who stretched the measuring line upon it?
5 Quem determinou as medidas da terra, se é que você o sabe? Ou quem estendeu sobre ela uma linha de medir?
6 On what were its bases sunk? Or who laid its cornerstone,
6 Sobre o que estão firmadas as suas bases ou quem lhe assentou a pedra angular,
7 when the morning stars were singing together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
7 quando as estrelas da alva, juntas, alegremente cantavam, e todos os filhos de Deus gritavam de alegria?”
8 “Or who shut the sea in with doors at its bursting, when it went out of the womb,
8 “Ou quem encerrou o mar com portões, quando irrompeu do ventre,
9 at my making the clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band,
9 quando eu lhe pus as nuvens por vestimenta e a escuridão por fraldas,
10 and I prescribed my rule for it, and I set bars and doors,
10 quando eu lhe tracei limites, e lhe pus ferrolhos e portas,
11 and I said, ‘You shall come up to here, but you shall not go further, and here it will set a boundary ⌞for your proud surging waves⌟’?
11 e disse: ‘Até aqui você pode chegar, mas deste ponto não passará. Aqui se quebrará o orgulho das suas ondas’?”
12 “Have you ⌞ever in your life⌟ commanded the morning? Have you made the dawn know its place,
12 “Alguma vez na vida você deu ordens à madrugada ou mostrou ao amanhecer o seu lugar,
13 to take hold of the earth’s skirts so that the wicked might be shaken off from it?
13 para que agarrasse a terra pelas extremidades e dela sacudisse os perversos?
14 It is changed like clay under a seal, and they appear like a garment.
14 A terra se modela como o barro debaixo do selo, e tudo se apresenta como um vestido.
15 And their light is withheld from the wicked, and their uplifted arm is broken.
15 Dos ímpios é retirada a sua luz, e o braço levantado para ferir se quebra.”
16 “Have you entered into the sea’s sources? Or have you walked around in the recesses of the deep?
16 “Você foi até as nascentes do mar ou percorreu o mais profundo do abismo?
17 Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the gates of deep shadow?
17 Será que a você foram reveladas as portas da morte? Você viu essas portas da região tenebrosa?
18 Have you considered closely the earth’s vast expanse? Declare it, if you know all of it.
18 Você tem noção clara da largura da terra? Responda, se você sabe tudo isso.”
19 “Where then is the way where the light dwells? And where then is its place,
19 “Onde está o caminho para a morada da luz? E, quanto às trevas, onde é o seu lugar,
20 that you may take it to its territory, and that you might discern the paths to its home?
20 para que você as conduza ao seu território e conheça o caminho para a sua casa?
21 You know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great.
21 Você sabe isso, porque nesse tempo já era nascido e porque é grande o número dos seus dias!”
22 Have you entered into the storehouses of the snow, or have you seen the storehouses of the hail,
22 “Você alguma vez entrou nos depósitos da neve ou viu os reservatórios do granizo,
23 which I have reserved for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war?
23 que eu guardo até o tempo da angústia, até o dia da batalha e da guerra?
24 Where then is the way where the light is distributed, where he scatters the east wind upon the earth?
24 Qual é o caminho para o lugar onde se difunde a luz e onde o vento leste se espalha sobre a terra?”
25 “Who has cut open a channel for the torrents and a way for the ⌞thunder bolts⌟,
25 “Quem abriu canais para o aguaceiro ou caminho para os relâmpagos e trovões,
26 to bring rain on a land ⌞where no one lives⌟, a desert ⌞where no humans live⌟,
26 para fazer chover sobre a terra onde não há ninguém, e nos lugares desertos onde ninguém mora;
27 to satisfy desert and wasteland, and to cause the ground to put forth the rising of grass?
27 para dessedentar a terra deserta e assolada e para fazer crescer os renovos da erva?
28 Is there a father for the rain, or who fathered the drops of dew?
28 Por acaso a chuva tem pai? Ou quem gera as gotas de orvalho?
29 From whose womb did the ice come forth, and who fathered the frost of heaven?
29 De que ventre procede o gelo? E quem dá à luz a geada do céu?
30 Like stone the waters become hard, and the faces of the deep freeze.
30 As águas ficam duras como a pedra, e a superfície das profundezas se torna compacta.”
31 “Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades, or can you loosen the cords of Orion?
31 “Será que você pode atar as correntes do Sete-estrelo ou soltar as cordas do Órion?
32 Can you lead forth the southern constellations at their appointed time, or can you lead the Bear with its children?
32 Você pode fazer aparecer as constelações a seu tempo ou guiar a Ursa Maior com os seus filhos?
33 Do you know heaven’s statutes, or can you establish their rule on the earth?
33 Você conhece as leis que governam os céus, e pode estabelecer a sua influência sobre a terra?”
34 Can you lift up your voice to the clouds so that a flood of water may cover you?
34 “Você é capaz de levantar a sua voz até as nuvens, para que a abundância das águas cubra você?
35 Can you send forth lightnings, that they may go? And will they say to you, ‘Here we are’?
35 Você pode dar ordens aos relâmpagos, para que saiam e lhe digam: ‘Às suas ordens!’?
36 Who has put wisdom in the ibis, or who has given understanding to the rooster?
36 Quem pôs sabedoria no coração ou deu entendimento à mente?
37 Who can number the clouds with wisdom? Or who can tilt heaven’s jars,
37 Quem pode numerar com sabedoria as nuvens? Ou os cântaros dos céus, quem os pode despejar,
38 at the flowing of the dust into a cast and the clods cling together?
38 para que o pó se transforme em massa sólida, e os torrões se apeguem uns aos outros?”
39 “Can you hunt prey for the lion? And can you satisfy the hunger of strong lions
39 “Será que é você que caça a presa para a leoa ou mata a fome dos leõezinhos,
40 when they are crouched in the dens, when they lie in the thicket in an ambush?
40 quando se agacham nos covis e ficam à espreita nas suas covas?
41 Who prepares for the crow its prey, when its young ones cry to God for help, and they wander around ⌞for lack of food⌟?
41 Quem prepara o alimento para o corvo, quando os seus filhotes clamam a Deus e andam vagueando, por não terem o que comer?”
