1 Thus Elihu ⌞spoke up⌟ and said,
1 Ademais, Eliú respondeu e disse:
2 “Hear my words, you wise men, and listen to me, you who know,
2 Ouvi minhas palavras, ó vós, homens sábios, e dai ouvidos a mim, vós que tendes conhecimento.
3 for the ear tests words, and the palate tastes ⌞food⌟.
3 Porque o ouvido prova as palavras, como a boca prova o alimento.
4 Let us choose justice for ourselves; let us determine among ourselves what is good—
4 Escolhamos para nós o julgamento; saibamos entre nós o que é bom.
5 for Job has said, ‘I am righteous, but God has taken away my justice.
5 Porque Jó disse: Eu sou justo, e Deus levou embora o meu julgamento.
6 Should I lie concerning my justice? Though I am without transgression, my wound caused by an arrow is incurable.’
6 Deveria eu mentir contra o meu direito? Minha ferida é incurável sem transgressão.
7 What man is like Job, who drinks scorn like water?
7 Que homem é como Jó, que bebe o escárnio como água?
8 And he goes on the road in company with instigators of mischief, and walks with men of wickedness.
8 Que anda em companhia dos trabalhadores da iniquidade, e caminha com os homens perversos.
9 Indeed, he says, ‘A man does not profit when he takes delight in God.’
9 Porque ele disse: Nada lucra o homem ao deleitar-se em Deus.
10 “Therefore, listen to me, ⌞people who have sense⌟: far be it from God ⌞that he should commit wickedness⌟ and that Shaddai ⌞should do wrong⌟.
10 Portanto, ouvi-me, vós homens de entendimento: Longe esteja de Deus o fazer a maldade; e do Todo-Poderoso, a prática da iniquidade.
11 Indeed, he will repay according to a human being’s deeds, and according to a man’s way he will let it happen to him.
11 Porque o trabalho de um homem ele lhe retribuirá, e fará com que cada homem receba de acordo com os seus caminhos.
12 What’s more, God truly does not act wickedly, and Shaddai does not pervert justice.
12 Sim, certamente Deus não agirá perversamente, nem perverterá o Todo-Poderoso o julgamento.
13 Who gave him charge over the earth? Or who laid on him the whole world?
13 Quem fez a terra sob os céus, ou quem organizou o mundo todo?
14 If he should set his heart to it, and he should gather his spirit and his breath to himself,
14 Se ele puser seu coração sobre o homem, se ele juntar para si o seu espírito e o seu fôlego,
15 all flesh would perish together, and humankind would return to dust.
15 toda a carne perecerá juntamente, e o homem voltará novamente ao pó.
16 “But if you have understanding, hear this; listen to ⌞what I say⌟.
16 Se agora tens entendimento, ouve isto: escuta a voz das minhas palavras.
17 Shall he who hates justice really govern? Or will you declare the Righteous One, the Mighty, guilty?—
17 Deve aquele que odeia o direito governar? E tu condenarias aquele que é o mais justo?
18 the one who says to a king, ‘You worthless man,’ to noblemen, ‘You wicked man,’
18 É certo dizer a um rei: Tu és perverso? E aos príncipes: Sois ímpios?
19 who ⌞shows no partiality to officials⌟ and who ⌞does not take note of the noble more than of the insignificant⌟, for all of them are the work of his hands?
19 Quanto menos àquele, que não aceita as pessoas dos príncipes, nem considera os ricos mais do que os pobres? Porque todos eles são obra de suas mãos.
20 In a moment they die, and in the middle of the night the people are shaken, and they pass away, and they take away the mighty ⌞effortlessly⌟.
20 Em um momento eles morrerão; e as pessoas serão perturbadas até a meia-noite, e morrerão; e os poderosos serão tomados sem que haja mão.
21 “Indeed, his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he sees all his steps.
21 Porque os seus olhos estão sobre os caminhos do homem; e ele vê todos os seus passos.
22 There is no darkness, and there is no deep shadow where instigators of mischief might hide themselves.
22 Não há trevas, nem sombra de morte, onde os trabalhadores da iniquidade possam se esconder.
23 Indeed, he has not yet appointed a time for man to go to God in the judgment.
23 Porque ele não colocará sobre o homem mais do que o justo; para que ele entre em julgamento com Deus.
24 He shatters the mighty without investigation, and he sets others in their place.
24 Ele partirá em pedaços homens poderosos sem número, e colocará outros em seu lugar.
25 Therefore he knows their works, and he overturns them in the night ⌞so that⌟ they are crushed.
25 Portanto, ele conhece suas obras, e ele os derruba à noite para que eles sejam destruídos.
26 He strikes them ⌞where the wicked stood⌟, ⌞where there are onlookers⌟,
26 Ele os ataca como homens perversos, à vista aberta de outros.
27 because they have turned aside from him and have not understood any of his ways,
27 Porque eles viraram as costas para ele, e não consideraram nenhum de seus caminhos,
28 so that they cause the cry of distress from the helpless to come to him, and he hears the cry of distress from the needy,
28 para que eles fizessem com que o clamor do pobre viesse até ele, e que ele ouvisse o clamor dos aflitos.
29 but he remains quiet, and who can condemn? And he hides his face, and who can behold him? Yet he is over a nation and over a person alike,
29 Quando ele dá tranquilidade, quem então pode causar problemas? E quando ele esconder a sua face, quem então poderá vê-lo? Seja contra uma nação, seja contra um homem somente;
30 so that godless human beings should not reign, nor those who ensnare the people.
30 para que o hipócrita não reine, para que as pessoas não sejam iludidas.
31 “Indeed, does anyone say to God, ‘I have endured chastisement; I will not act corruptly again;
31 Certamente é digno de ser dito a Deus: Eu tenho suportado o castigo, não ofenderei mais.
32 teach me yourself ⌞what I cannot see⌟; if I have done wrong, I will not repeat it’?
32 Aquilo que eu não vejo, ensina-me tu; se tenho feito iniquidade, não o farei mais.
33 ⌞According to your judgment⌟, must he repay it because you rejected this? Indeed, you must choose, and not I, so declare what you know.
33 Deveria ser de acordo com tua mente? Ele o recompensará, se tu recusares; ou se tu escolhes, e não eu. Portanto, fala o que tu sabes.
34 ⌞Those who have sense⌟ say to me, and the wise man hearing me says:
34 Que os homens de entendimento me digam, e que um homem sábio me ouça.
35 ‘Job speaks without knowledge, and his words are without insight.
35 Jó falou sem conhecimento; e suas palavras eram sem sabedoria.
36 Would that Job were tested up to the end because his answers are like those from men of mischief,
36 Meu desejo é que Jó possa ser provado até o fim por causa de suas respostas aos homens perversos.
37 for he adds transgression to his sin; he claps hands among us, and he multiplies his words against God.’ ”
37 Porque ele acrescenta rebelião ao seu pecado, ele bate as mãos no meio de nós, e multiplica suas palavras contra Deus.
