1 Then Job answered and said,
1 Então Jó falou novamente:
2 “Listen carefully to my words, and let this be your consolation.
2 “Escutem com atenção o que eu digo; essa é a consolação que podem me dar.
3 Bear with me, and I myself will speak; then after my speaking you can mock.
3 Enquanto eu estiver falando, tenham paciência; depois que tiver falado, podem continuar a zombar de mim.
4 As for me, is my complaint for human beings? And if so, why cannot I be impatient?
4 “Minha queixa não é contra seres humanos; tenho bons motivos para estar impaciente.
5 Turn to me and be appalled, and place your hand on your mouth.
5 Olhem para mim, e ficarão pasmos; assustados, colocarão a mão sobre a boca.
6 And when I think of it, I am horrified, and shuddering seizes my flesh.
6 Quando penso no que estou dizendo, fico arrepiado; todo o meu corpo estremece.
7 “Why do the wicked live, grow old, even grow mighty in power?
7 “Por que os perversos continuam com vida, chegam à velhice e se tornam poderosos?
8 With them their offspring are established ⌞before them⌟, and their descendants before their eyes.
8 Veem seus filhos crescer e se estabelecer e desfrutam a companhia de seus netos.
9 Their houses are safe without fear, and the rod of God is not upon them.
9 Seus lares são seguros e livres de todo medo, e Deus não os castiga.
10 His bull breeds and does not fail; his cow calves and does not miscarry.
10 Seus touros nunca deixam de procriar, suas vacas dão crias e não abortam.
11 They send out their little ones like the flock, and their children dance around.
11 Deixam seus filhos brincar como cordeiros; seus pequeninos saltam e dançam.
12 They ⌞sing⌟ to the tambourine and lyre, and they rejoice to the sound of the long flute.
12 Cantam com tamborins e harpas e celebram ao som da flauta.
13 They spend their days in prosperity, and in peace they go down to Sheol.
13 Passam os dias em prosperidade e descem à sepultura
14 And they say to God, ‘Turn away from us, for we do not desire to know your ways.
14 E, no entanto, dizem a Deus: ‘Deixa-nos em paz! Não queremos saber de ti nem de teus caminhos.
15 Who is Shaddai that we should serve him, or what would we benefit when we plead with him?’
15 Quem é o Todo-poderoso e por que deveríamos lhe obedecer? De que nos adiantará orar?’.
16 Look, their prosperity is not in their hands; the schemes of the wicked are repugnant to me.
16 Acreditam que a prosperidade depende de si mesmos, mas eu quero distância desse modo de pensar.
17 “How often is the lamp of the wicked put out, and their disaster comes upon them? He distributes pains in his anger.
17 “Quantas vezes a luz dos perversos se apaga? Quantas vezes sofrem desgraças? Acaso Deus, em sua ira, lhes reparte tristezas?
18 How often are they like straw ⌞before⌟ the wind, and like chaff that the storm carries away?
18 Quantas vezes são carregados pelo vento, como palha, ou levados embora pela tempestade, como ciscos?
19 ‘God stores up his iniquity for his children’? Then let him repay it to him that he may know.
19 “Vocês dizem: ‘Ao menos Deus castiga os filhos deles!’. Mas eu digo que ele deveria castigar os pais, para que entendam seu juízo.
20 Let his eyes see his decay, and let him drink from the wrath of Shaddai,
20 Que seus próprios olhos vejam sua destruição; que eles mesmos bebam da ira do Todo-poderoso!
21 for what ⌞does he care for⌟ his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off?
21 Afinal, depois de mortos, não se importarão com o que acontece à sua família.
22 Can anyone teach knowledge to God, since he himself judges high ones?
22 “Mas quem pode dar lições a Deus, uma vez que ele julga até os mais poderosos?
23 This one dies ⌞in full prosperity⌟, ⌞completely⌟ at ease and secure.
23 Um morre em prosperidade, confortável e seguro,
24 His vats are full with milk and the marrow of his bones is moist.
24 um retrato perfeito de boa saúde, em excelente forma e cheio de vigor.
25 Yet another dies with a bitter inner self and has not tasted prosperity.
25 Outro morre em amarga pobreza, sem nunca ter experimentado as coisas boas da vida.
26 They lie down together in the dust, and maggots cover them.
26 Ambos, porém, são enterrados no mesmo pó; ambos são comidos pelos mesmos vermes.
27 “Look, I know your thoughts and the schemes you devise against me.
27 “Sei o que estão pensando, sei dos planos que tramam contra mim.
28 For you say, ‘Where is the nobleman’s house, and where are ⌞the tents in which the wicked dwell⌟?’
28 ‘Onde está a casa dos ricos?’, vocês me dirão. ‘Onde está a casa dos perversos?’
29 Do you not ask those traveling the roads, and do you not take notice of their accounts?
29 Perguntem, porém, àqueles que viajam, e eles lhes dirão a verdade.
30 Indeed, the wicked is spared from the day of disaster; he is delivered from the day of wrath.
30 Os perversos são poupados no dia da calamidade e socorridos no dia da fúria.
31 Who denounces his way to his face? And who repays him for what he has done?
31 Ninguém os critica abertamente, nem lhes dá o que merecem por seus atos.
32 When he is brought to the grave, then someone stands guard over the tomb.
32 Quando são levados à sepultura, uma guarda de honra vigia seu túmulo.
33 The clods of the valley are sweet to him; everyone will follow after him, and ⌞before⌟ him ⌞they are innumerable⌟.
33 A terra lhes dá doce repouso, e uma grande multidão acompanha o funeral e presta homenagens enquanto o corpo é sepultado.
34 So how will you comfort me with emptiness, when fraud is left in your answers?”
34 “Como podem suas palavras vazias me consolar? Suas explicações não passam de mentiras!”.
