1 Then Job answered and said,
1 Então Jó respondeu:
2 “Listen carefully to my words, and let this be your consolation.
2 "Escutem com atenção as minhas palavras; seja esse o consolo que vocês haverão de dar-me.
3 Bear with me, and I myself will speak; then after my speaking you can mock.
3 Suportem-me enquanto eu estiver falando; depois que eu falar poderão zombar de mim.
4 As for me, is my complaint for human beings? And if so, why cannot I be impatient?
4 "Acaso é dos homens que me queixo? Por que não deveria eu estar impaciente?
5 Turn to me and be appalled, and place your hand on your mouth.
5 Olhem para mim, e ficarão atônitos; tapem a boca com a mão.
6 And when I think of it, I am horrified, and shuddering seizes my flesh.
6 Quando penso nisso, fico aterrorizado; todo o meu corpo se põe a tremer.
7 “Why do the wicked live, grow old, even grow mighty in power?
7 Por que vivem os ímpios? Por que chegam à velhice e aumentam seu poder?
8 With them their offspring are established ⌞before them⌟, and their descendants before their eyes.
8 Eles vêem os seus filhos estabelecidos ao seu redor, e os seus descendentes diante dos seus olhos.
9 Their houses are safe without fear, and the rod of God is not upon them.
9 Seus lares estão seguros e livres de medo; a vara de Deus não os vem ferir.
10 His bull breeds and does not fail; his cow calves and does not miscarry.
10 Seus touros nunca deixam de procriar; suas vacas dão crias e não abortam.
11 They send out their little ones like the flock, and their children dance around.
11 Eles soltam os seus filhos como um rebanho; seus pequeninos põem-se a dançar.
12 They ⌞sing⌟ to the tambourine and lyre, and they rejoice to the sound of the long flute.
12 Cantam, acompanhando a música do tamborim e da harpa; alegram-se ao som da flauta.
13 They spend their days in prosperity, and in peace they go down to Sheol.
13 Passam a vida na prosperidade e descem à sepultura em paz.
14 And they say to God, ‘Turn away from us, for we do not desire to know your ways.
14 Contudo, dizem eles a Deus: ‘Deixa-nos! Não queremos conhecer os teus caminhos.
15 Who is Shaddai that we should serve him, or what would we benefit when we plead with him?’
15 Quem é o Todo-poderoso, para que o sirvamos? Que vantagem nos dá orar a ele? ’
16 Look, their prosperity is not in their hands; the schemes of the wicked are repugnant to me.
16 Mas não depende deles a prosperidade de que desfrutam; por isso fico longe do conselho dos ímpios.
17 “How often is the lamp of the wicked put out, and their disaster comes upon them? He distributes pains in his anger.
17 "Pois, quantas vezes a lâmpada dos ímpios se apaga? Quantas vezes a desgraça cai sobre eles, o destino que em sua ira Deus lhes dá?
18 How often are they like straw ⌞before⌟ the wind, and like chaff that the storm carries away?
18 Quantas vezes o vento os leva como palha, e o furacão os arrebata como cisco?
19 ‘God stores up his iniquity for his children’? Then let him repay it to him that he may know.
19 Dizem que Deus reserva o castigo de um homem para os seus filhos. Que ele mesmo o receba, para que aprenda a lição!
20 Let his eyes see his decay, and let him drink from the wrath of Shaddai,
20 Que os seus próprios olhos vejam a sua ruína; que ele mesmo beba da ira do Todo-poderoso!
21 for what ⌞does he care for⌟ his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off?
21 Pois, que lhe importará a família que deixa atrás de si quando chegar ao fim os meses que lhe foram destinados?
22 Can anyone teach knowledge to God, since he himself judges high ones?
22 "Haverá alguém que o ensine a conhecer a Deus, uma vez que ele julga até os de mais alta posição?
23 This one dies ⌞in full prosperity⌟, ⌞completely⌟ at ease and secure.
23 Um homem morre em pleno vigor, quando se sentia bem e seguro,
24 His vats are full with milk and the marrow of his bones is moist.
24 tendo o corpo bem nutrido e os ossos cheios de tutano.
25 Yet another dies with a bitter inner self and has not tasted prosperity.
25 Já outro morre tendo a alma amargurada, sem nada ter desfrutado.
26 They lie down together in the dust, and maggots cover them.
26 Um e outro jazem no pó, ambos cobertos de vermes.
27 “Look, I know your thoughts and the schemes you devise against me.
27 "Sei muito bem o que vocês estão pensando, as suas conspirações contra mim.
28 For you say, ‘Where is the nobleman’s house, and where are ⌞the tents in which the wicked dwell⌟?’
28 ‘Onde está agora a casa do grande homem? ’, vocês perguntam. ‘Onde a tenda dos ímpios? ’
29 Do you not ask those traveling the roads, and do you not take notice of their accounts?
29 Vocês nunca fizeram perguntas aos que viajam? Não deram atenção ao que contam?
30 Indeed, the wicked is spared from the day of disaster; he is delivered from the day of wrath.
30 Que o mau é poupado da calamidade, e que do dia da ira recebe livramento?
31 Who denounces his way to his face? And who repays him for what he has done?
31 Quem o acusa lançando em rosto a sua conduta? Quem lhe retribui pelo mal que fez?
32 When he is brought to the grave, then someone stands guard over the tomb.
32 Pois o levam para o túmulo, e sobre a sua sepultura se mantém vigilância.
33 The clods of the valley are sweet to him; everyone will follow after him, and ⌞before⌟ him ⌞they are innumerable⌟.
33 Para ele é macio o terreno do vale; todos o seguem, e uma multidão incontável o precede.
34 So how will you comfort me with emptiness, when fraud is left in your answers?”
34 "Por isso, como podem vocês consolar-me com esses absurdos? O que sobra das suas respostas é pura falsidade! "
