1 Then Job answered and said,
1 Respondeu, porém, Jó e disse:
2 “⌞How long⌟ will you torment me and crush me with words?
2 Até quando entristecereis a minha alma e me quebrantareis com palavras?
3 These ten times you have disgraced me; you are not ashamed that you have attacked me.
3 Já dez vezes me envergonhastes; vergonha não tendes de contra mim vos endurecerdes.
4 And what is more, if I have truly erred, my error remains with me.
4 Embora haja eu, na verdade, errado, comigo ficará o meu erro.
5 If indeed you must magnify yourselves against me, and you must let my disgrace argue against me,
5 Se deveras vos levantais contra mim e me arguís pelo meu opróbrio,
6 know then that God has wronged me and has surrounded me with his net.
6 sabei agora que Deus é que me transtornou e com a sua rede me cercou.
7 “Look, I cry out, ‘Violence!’ but I am not answered; I cry out, but there is no justice.
7 Eis que clamo: Violência! Mas não sou ouvido; grito: Socorro! Mas não há justiça.
8 He has walled up my way so that I cannot pass; and he has set darkness upon my paths.
8 O meu caminho ele entrincheirou, e não posso passar; e nas minhas veredas pôs trevas.
9 He has taken my glory from me, and he has removed the crown of my head.
9 Da minha honra me despojou; e tirou-me a coroa da minha cabeça.
10 He has broken me down all around, and I am gone. And he has uprooted my hope like a tree,
10 Quebrou-me de todos os lados, e eu me vou; e arrancou a minha esperança, como a uma árvore.
11 and he has kindled his wrath against me, and ⌞he has counted me as one of his foes⌟.
11 E fez inflamar contra mim a sua ira e me reputou para consigo como um de seus inimigos.
12 His troops have come together and have thrown up their rampart against me and have encamped around my tent.
12 Juntas vieram as suas tropas, e prepararam contra mim o seu caminho, e se acamparam ao redor da minha tenda.
13 “He has removed my kinsfolk from me, and my acquaintances have only turned aside from me.
13 Pôs longe de mim a meus irmãos, e os que me conhecem deveras me estranharam.
14 My relatives have failed, and my close friends have forgotten me.
14 Os meus parentes me deixaram, e os meus conhecidos se esqueceram de mim.
15 The sojourners in my house and my slave women count me as a stranger; I have become a foreigner in their eyes.
15 Os meus domésticos e as minhas servas me reputaram como um estranho; vim a ser um estrangeiro aos seus olhos.
16 I call to my servant, but he does not answer; I must ⌞personally⌟ plead with him.
16 Chamei a meu criado, e ele me não respondeu; cheguei a suplicar com a minha boca.
17 My breath is repulsive to my wife, and I am loathsome to ⌞my own family⌟.
17 O meu bafo se fez estranho a minha mulher; e a minha súplica, aos filhos do meu corpo.
18 Little boys also despise me; when I rise, then they talk against me.
18 Até os rapazes me desprezam, e, levantando-me eu, falam contra mim.
19 All ⌞my intimate friends⌟ abhor me, and these whom I have loved have turned against me.
19 Todos os homens do meu secreto conselho me abominam, e até os que eu amava se tornaram contra mim.
20 My bones cling to my skin and to my flesh, and I have escaped by the skin of my teeth.
20 Os meus ossos se apegaram à minha pele e à minha carne, e escapei só com a pele dos meus dentes.
21 “Pity me, pity me, you my friends, for God’s hand has touched me.
21 Compadecei-vos de mim, amigos meus, compadecei-vos de mim, porque a mão de Deus me tocou.
22 Why do you pursue me like God? And are not satisfied with my flesh?
22 Por que me perseguis assim como Deus, e da minha carne vos não fartais?
23 “⌞O that⌟ my words could be written down! ⌞O that they could be inscribed in a scroll⌟!
23 Quem me dera, agora, que as minhas palavras se escrevessem! Quem me dera que se gravassem num livro!
24 That with a pen of iron and with lead they might be engraved on a rock forever!
24 E que, com pena de ferro e com chumbo, para sempre fossem esculpidas na rocha!
25 But I myself know that my redeemer is alive, and at the last he will stand up upon ⌞the earth⌟.
25 Porque eu sei que o meu Redentor vive, e que por fim se levantará sobre a terra.
26 And after my skin has been thus destroyed, but from my flesh I will see God,
26 E depois de consumida a minha pele, ainda em minha carne verei a Deus.
27 whom ⌞I will see for myself⌟, and whom my eyes will see and not a stranger. ⌞My heart faints within me⌟.
27 Vê-lo-ei por mim mesmo, e os meus olhos, e não outros, o verão; e, por isso, o meu coração se consome dentro de mim.
28 “If you say, ‘How will we persecute him?’ And ‘The root of the trouble is found’ in me,
28 Na verdade, que devíeis dizer: Por que o perseguimos? Pois a raiz da acusação se acha em mim.
29 be afraid for yourselves ⌞because of the sword⌟, for wrath brings punishment by the sword, so that you may know that there is judgment.”
29 Temei vós mesmos a espada; porque o furor traz os castigos da espada, para saberdes que há um juízo.
