1 Então Elifaz, de Temã, respondeu a Jó:
2 "If one ventures a word with you, will you be offended? Yet who can keep from speaking?
2 “Você terá paciência e me permitirá dizer algo? Afinal, quem poderia permanecer calado?
3 Behold, you have instructed many, and you have strengthened the weak hands.
3 Você já deu ânimo a muita gente e deu força aos fracos.
4 Your words have upheld him who was stumbling, and you have made firm the feeble knees.
4 Suas palavras sustentaram os que tropeçavam, e você deu apoio aos vacilantes.
5 But now it has come to you, and you are impatient; it touches you, and you are dismayed.
5 Mas agora, quando vem a aflição, você desanima; quando é atingido por ela, entra em pânico.
6 Is not your fear of God your confidence, and the integrity of your ways your hope?
6 Seu temor a Deus não lhe dá confiança? Sua vida íntegra não lhe traz esperança?
7 "Think now, who that was innocent ever perished? Or where were the upright cut off+?
7 “Pense bem! Acaso os inocentes morrem? Quando os justos foram destruídos?
8 As I have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow trouble reap the same.
8 Pelo que tenho observado, os que cultivam a maldade e semeiam a opressão, isso também é o que colhem.
9 By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of his anger they are consumed.
9 Um sopro de Deus os destrói; desaparecem com uma rajada de sua ira.
10 The roar of the lion, the voice of the fierce lion, the teeth of the young lions, are broken.
10 O leão ruge e seu filhote rosna, mas os dentes dos leões jovens são quebrados.
11 The strong lion perishes for lack of prey, and the whelps of the lioness are scattered.
11 O leão feroz morre de fome porque não há presa, e os filhotes da leoa se dispersam.
12 "Now a word was brought to me stealthily, my ear received the whisper of it.
12 “Esta verdade me foi revelada em segredo, como que sussurrada em meu ouvido.
13 Amid thoughts from visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on men,
13 Ela veio à noite, numa visão perturbadora, quando todos estão em sono profundo.
14 dread came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones shake.
14 O medo e o terror se apoderaram de mim e fizeram estremecer meus ossos.
15 A spirit glided past my face; the hair of my flesh stood up.
15 Um espírito passou diante de meu rosto, e os pelos de meu corpo se arrepiaram.
16 It stood still, but I could not discern its appearance. A form was before my eyes; there was silence, then I heard a voice:
16 O espírito parou, mas não pude ver sua forma; um vulto estava diante de meus olhos. No silêncio, ouvi uma voz dizer:
17 `an mortal man be righteous before God? Can a man be pure before his Maker?
17 ‘Pode algum mortal ser inocente perante Deus? Pode o homem ser puro diante do Criador?’.
18 Even in his servants he puts no trust, and his angels he charges with error;
18 “Se Deus não confia nos próprios anjos e acusa seus mensageiros de insensatez,
19 how much more those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth.
19 quanto menos confiará em pessoas feitas de barro! Vêm do pó e são facilmente destruídas, como traças.
20 Between morning and evening they are destroyed; they perish for ever without any regarding it.
20 Estão vivas pela manhã e mortas ao entardecer; desaparecem para sempre, sem deixar vestígio.
21 If their tent-cord is plucked up within them, do they not die, and that without wisdom?'
21 As cordas de sua tenda são arrancadas e a tenda desaba, e na ignorância morrem.”
