1 BOOK THE FIFTH O give thanks to YahwehFor he is good, For, age-abiding, is his lovingkindness.
1 Dêem graças ao Senhor porque ele é bom; o seu amor dura para sempre.
2 Let the redeemed of Yahweh say, Whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the adversary;
2 Assim o digam os que o Senhor resgatou, os que livrou das mãos do adversário,
3 And, out of the lands, hath gathered themFrom the east and from the west, From the north and from the south.
3 e reuniu de outras terras, do Oriente e do Ocidente, do Norte e do Sul.
4 They wandered about in the desertin a waste, Way to a city to dwell in, found they none;
4 Perambularam pelo deserto e por terras áridas sem encontrar cidade habitada.
5 Hungryyea thirsty, their soul, within them, fainted:
5 Estavam famintos e sedentos; suas vidas iam-se esvaindo.
6 Then made they outcry to Yahweh, in their peril, Out of their distresses, he rescued them;
6 Na sua aflição, clamaram ao Senhor, e ele os livrou da tribulação em que se encontravam
7 And led them by a straight road, That they might journey to a city to dwell in.
7 e os conduziu por caminho seguro a uma cidade habitada.
8 Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his lovingkindness, and for his wonderful dealings with the sons of men;
8 Que eles dêem graças ao Senhor por seu amor leal e por suas maravilhas em favor dos homens,
9 For he hath satisfied the longing soul, and, the famished soul, hath he filled with good.
9 porque ele sacia o sedento e satisfaz plenamente o faminto.
10 The dwellers in darkness and death-shade, bound with oppression and iron;
10 Assentaram-se nas trevas e na sombra mortal, aflitos, acorrentados,
11 Because they had rebelled against the sayings of GOD,and, the counsel of the Most High, they had spurned;
11 pois se rebelaram contra as palavras de Deus e desprezaram os desígnios do Altíssimo.
12 And he bowed down, with labour, their heart, They staggered, with no one to help,
12 Por isso ele os sujeitou a trabalhos pesados; eles tropeçaram, e não houve quem os ajudasse.
13 Then made they outcry to Yahweh in their peril, Out of their distresses, he saved them;
13 Na sua aflição, clamaram ao Senhor, e eles os salvou da tribulação em que se encontravam.
14 He brought them forth out of darkness and death-shade, and, their fetters, he tare off.
14 Ele os tirou das trevas e da sombra mortal, e quebrou as correntes que os prendiam.
15 Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his lovingkindness, and for his wonderful dealings with the sons of men!
15 Que eles dêem graças ao Senhor, por seu amor leal e por suas maravilhas em favor dos homens,
16 For he brake in pieces the doors of bronze, And, the bars of iron, he hewed asunder.
16 porque despedaçou as portas de bronze e rompeu as trancas de ferro.
17 The perverse, by reason of their transgression, and on account of their iniquities, are afflicted;
17 Tornaram-se tolos por causa dos seus caminhos rebeldes, e sofreram por causa das suas maldades.
18 All manner of food, their soul abhorreth, and so they draw near unto the gates of death,
18 Sentiram repugnância por toda comida e chegaram perto das portas da morte.
19 Then make they outcry to Yahweh in their peril, and, out of their distresses, he saveth them.
19 Na sua aflição, clamaram ao Senhor, e ele os salvou da tribulação em que se encontravam.
20 He sendeth his word, and healeth them, and delivereth them from their graves.
20 Ele enviou a sua palavra e os curou, e os livrou da morte.
21 Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his lovingkindness, and for his wonderful dealings with the sons of men!
21 Que eles dêem graças ao Senhor, por seu amor leal e por suas maravilhas em favor dos homens.
22 Yea let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and recount his works with a shout.
22 Que eles ofereçam sacrifícios de ação de graças e anunciem as suas obras com cânticos de alegria.
23 Men who go down to the sea, in ships, doing business through mighty waters;
23 Fizeram-se ao mar em navios, para negócios na imensidão das águas,
24 They, see the works of Yahweh, and his wonders in the deep;
24 e viram as obras do Senhor, as suas maravilhas nas profundezas.
25 And he speaketh, and there ariseth a tempestuous wind, which lifteth on high its rolling waves;
25 Deus falou e provocou um vendaval que levantava as ondas.
26 They mount the heavens, they descend the roaring deeps, their soul, by trouble, dissolveth;
26 Subiam aos céus e desciam aos abismos; diante de tal perigo, perderam a coragem.
27 They reel and stagger, like a drunken man, and, all their wisdom, is engulfed,
27 Cambaleavam, tontos como bêbados, e toda a sua habilidade foi inútil.
28 Then make they outcry to Yahweh in their peril, and, out of their distresses, he bringeth them forth,
28 Na sua aflição, clamaram ao Senhor, e ele os tirou da tribulação em que se encontravam.
29 He calmeth the storm to a whisper, and silent are their rolling waves:
29 Reduziu a tempestade a uma brisa e serenou as ondas.
30 Then are they glad, because they are hushed, And he guideth them unto their desired haven.
30 As ondas sossegaram, ele se alegraram, e Deus os guiou ao porto almejado.
31 Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his lovingkindness, and for his wonderful dealings with the sons of men!
31 Que eles dêem graças ao Senhor por seu amor leal e por suas maravilhas em favor dos homens,
32 Yea let them extol him in the convocation of the people, and, in the seated company of elders, let them praise him.
32 Que o exaltem na assembléia do povo e o louvem na reunião dos líderes.
33 He turneth Rivers into a desert, and, Springs of Water, into thirsty ground,
33 Ele transforma os rios em deserto e as fontes em terra seca,
34 A Land of Fruit, into a waste of salt, For the wickedness of them who dwell therein.
34 faz da terra fértil um solo estéril, por causa da maldade dos seus moradores.
35 He turneth A Desert, into a pool of water, and, A Parched Land into springs of water;
35 Transforma o deserto em açudes e a terra ressecada, em fontes.
36 And hath caused the famished to dwell there, And they have built them a city to dwell in;
36 Ali ele assenta os famintos, para fundar uma cidade habitável,
37 And have sown fields, and planted vineyards, and made them fruits of increase:
37 semear lavouras, plantar vinhas e colher uma grande safra.
38 Thus hath he blessed them, and they have multiplied greatly, And, their cattle, he maketh not few.
38 Ele os abençoa, e eles se multiplicam; e não deixa que diminuam os seus rebanhos.
39 So have they become few and been brought low, By oppression, misfortune, and sorrow;
39 Quando, porém, reduzidos, são humilhados com opressão, desgraça e tristeza.
40 He poureth contempt upon nobles, and causeth them to wander in a pathless waste;
40 Deus derrama desprezo sobre os nobres e os faz vagar num deserto sem caminhos.
41 But he hath set the needy on high from affliction, and made families, like a flock:
41 Mas tira os pobres da miséria e aumenta as suas famílias como rebanhos.
42 The upright seeth and is glad, And, all perverseness, hath closed her mouth.
42 Os justos vêem tudo isso e se alegram, mas todos os perversos se calam.
43 Who is wise? then let him observe these things! and diligently consider the lovingkindness of Yahweh.
43 Reflitam nisso os sábios e considerem a bondade do Senhor.
