1 BOOK THE FIFTH O give thanks to YahwehFor he is good, For, age-abiding, is his lovingkindness.
1 Rendei graças ao Senhor , porque ele é bom, e a sua misericórdia dura para sempre.
2 Let the redeemed of Yahweh say, Whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the adversary;
2 Digam-no os remidos do Senhor , os que ele resgatou da mão do inimigo
3 And, out of the lands, hath gathered themFrom the east and from the west, From the north and from the south.
3 e congregou de entre as terras, do Oriente e do Ocidente, do Norte e do mar.
4 They wandered about in the desertin a waste, Way to a city to dwell in, found they none;
4 Andaram errantes pelo deserto, por ermos caminhos, sem achar cidade em que habitassem.
5 Hungryyea thirsty, their soul, within them, fainted:
5 Famintos e sedentos, desfalecia neles a alma.
6 Then made they outcry to Yahweh, in their peril, Out of their distresses, he rescued them;
6 Então, na sua angústia, clamaram ao Senhor , e ele os livrou das suas tribulações.
7 And led them by a straight road, That they might journey to a city to dwell in.
7 Conduziu-os pelo caminho direito, para que fossem à cidade em que habitassem.
8 Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his lovingkindness, and for his wonderful dealings with the sons of men;
8 Rendam graças ao Senhor por sua bondade e por suas maravilhas para com os filhos dos homens!
9 For he hath satisfied the longing soul, and, the famished soul, hath he filled with good.
9 Pois dessedentou a alma sequiosa e fartou de bens a alma faminta.
10 The dwellers in darkness and death-shade, bound with oppression and iron;
10 Os que se assentaram nas trevas e nas sombras da morte, presos em aflição e em ferros,
11 Because they had rebelled against the sayings of GOD,and, the counsel of the Most High, they had spurned;
11 por se terem rebelado contra a palavra de Deus e haverem desprezado o conselho do Altíssimo,
12 And he bowed down, with labour, their heart, They staggered, with no one to help,
12 de modo que lhes abateu com trabalhos o coração — caíram, e não houve quem os socorresse.
13 Then made they outcry to Yahweh in their peril, Out of their distresses, he saved them;
13 Então, na sua angústia, clamaram ao Senhor , e ele os livrou das suas tribulações.
14 He brought them forth out of darkness and death-shade, and, their fetters, he tare off.
14 Tirou-os das trevas e das sombras da morte e lhes despedaçou as cadeias.
15 Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his lovingkindness, and for his wonderful dealings with the sons of men!
15 Rendam graças ao Senhor por sua bondade e por suas maravilhas para com os filhos dos homens!
16 For he brake in pieces the doors of bronze, And, the bars of iron, he hewed asunder.
16 Pois arrombou as portas de bronze e quebrou as trancas de ferro.
17 The perverse, by reason of their transgression, and on account of their iniquities, are afflicted;
17 Os estultos, por causa do seu caminho de transgressão e por causa das suas iniquidades, serão afligidos.
18 All manner of food, their soul abhorreth, and so they draw near unto the gates of death,
18 A sua alma aborreceu toda sorte de comida, e chegaram às portas da morte.
19 Then make they outcry to Yahweh in their peril, and, out of their distresses, he saveth them.
19 Então, na sua angústia, clamaram ao Senhor , e ele os livrou das suas tribulações.
20 He sendeth his word, and healeth them, and delivereth them from their graves.
20 Enviou-lhes a sua palavra, e os sarou, e os livrou do que lhes era mortal.
21 Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his lovingkindness, and for his wonderful dealings with the sons of men!
21 Rendam graças ao Senhor por sua bondade e por suas maravilhas para com os filhos dos homens!
22 Yea let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and recount his works with a shout.
22 Ofereçam sacrifícios de ações de graças e proclamem com júbilo as suas obras!
23 Men who go down to the sea, in ships, doing business through mighty waters;
23 Os que, tomando navios, descem aos mares, os que fazem tráfico na imensidade das águas,
24 They, see the works of Yahweh, and his wonders in the deep;
24 esses veem as obras do Senhor e as suas maravilhas nas profundezas do abismo.
25 And he speaketh, and there ariseth a tempestuous wind, which lifteth on high its rolling waves;
25 Pois ele falou e fez levantar o vento tempestuoso, que elevou as ondas do mar.
26 They mount the heavens, they descend the roaring deeps, their soul, by trouble, dissolveth;
26 Subiram até aos céus, desceram até aos abismos; no meio destas angústias, desfalecia-lhes a alma.
27 They reel and stagger, like a drunken man, and, all their wisdom, is engulfed,
27 Andaram, e cambalearam como ébrios, e perderam todo tino.
28 Then make they outcry to Yahweh in their peril, and, out of their distresses, he bringeth them forth,
28 Então, na sua angústia, clamaram ao Senhor , e ele os livrou das suas tribulações.
29 He calmeth the storm to a whisper, and silent are their rolling waves:
29 Fez cessar a tormenta, e as ondas se acalmaram.
30 Then are they glad, because they are hushed, And he guideth them unto their desired haven.
30 Então, se alegraram com a bonança; e, assim, os levou ao desejado porto.
31 Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his lovingkindness, and for his wonderful dealings with the sons of men!
31 Rendam graças ao Senhor por sua bondade e por suas maravilhas para com os filhos dos homens!
32 Yea let them extol him in the convocation of the people, and, in the seated company of elders, let them praise him.
32 Exaltem-no também na assembleia do povo e o glorifiquem no conselho dos anciãos.
33 He turneth Rivers into a desert, and, Springs of Water, into thirsty ground,
33 Ele converteu rios em desertos e mananciais, em terra seca;
34 A Land of Fruit, into a waste of salt, For the wickedness of them who dwell therein.
34 terra frutífera, em deserto salgado, por causa da maldade dos seus habitantes.
35 He turneth A Desert, into a pool of water, and, A Parched Land into springs of water;
35 Converteu o deserto em lençóis de água e a terra seca, em mananciais.
36 And hath caused the famished to dwell there, And they have built them a city to dwell in;
36 Estabeleceu aí os famintos, os quais edificaram uma cidade em que habitassem.
37 And have sown fields, and planted vineyards, and made them fruits of increase:
37 Semearam campos, e plantaram vinhas, e tiveram fartas colheitas.
38 Thus hath he blessed them, and they have multiplied greatly, And, their cattle, he maketh not few.
38 Ele os abençoou, de sorte que se multiplicaram muito; e o gado deles não diminuiu.
39 So have they become few and been brought low, By oppression, misfortune, and sorrow;
39 Mas tornaram a reduzir-se e foram humilhados pela opressão, pela adversidade e pelo sofrimento.
40 He poureth contempt upon nobles, and causeth them to wander in a pathless waste;
40 Lança ele o desprezo sobre os príncipes e os faz andar errantes, onde não há caminho.
41 But he hath set the needy on high from affliction, and made families, like a flock:
41 Mas levanta da opressão o necessitado, para um alto retiro, e lhe prospera famílias como rebanhos.
42 The upright seeth and is glad, And, all perverseness, hath closed her mouth.
42 Os retos veem isso e se alegram, mas o ímpio por toda parte fecha a boca.
43 Who is wise? then let him observe these things! and diligently consider the lovingkindness of Yahweh.
43 Quem é sábio atente para essas coisas e considere as misericórdias do
