1 The words of Agur, son of Jakeh, the oracle,The utterance of the man, for Ithiel, for Ithiel and Ucal.
1 As palavras de Agur, filho de Jaque, a profecia; o homem falou a Itiel, a Itiel, e a Ucal:
2 Surely, more brutish, am, I, than any man, nor doth, the understanding of a son of earth, pertain to me;
2 Certamente eu sou mais bruto do que qualquer homem, e não tenho o entendimento de um homem.
3 Neither have I learned wisdom, nor, the knowledge of the Holy Ones, can I acquire.
3 Nem aprendi a sabedoria, nem tenho o conhecimento do santo.
4 Who hath ascended the heavens and then descended? Who hath gathered the wind into his two hands? Who hath wrapped up the waters in a mantle? Who hath set up all the ends of the earth? What is his name and what the name of his son, when thou knowest?
4 Quem subiu ao céu ou desceu? Quem juntou os ventos nos seus punhos? Quem amarrou as águas em uma roupa? Quem estabeleceu todos os confins da terra? Qual é o seu nome, e qual é o nome de seu filho, se podes dizer?
5 Every saying of God is refined, A shield, is, he, to them who seek refuge in him.
5 Toda a palavra de Deus é pura; ele é um escudo para aqueles que põem sua confiança nele.
6 Do not add unto his words, lest he convict thee, and thou be found false.
6 Não acrescentes às suas palavras, para que ele não te reprove e tu sejas achado mentiroso.
7 Two things, have I asked of thee, withhold them not from me, ere yet I die:
7 Duas coisas requeri de ti; não me negues, antes que eu morra:
8 Vanity and falsehood, remove far from me, Neither poverty nor riches, give me, Feed me with the food appointed me:
8 Remove para longe de mim a vaidade e as mentiras; não me dês nem a pobreza nem a riqueza; alimenta-me com a comida conveniente para mim;
9 Lest I be full, and deny, and sayWho is Yahweh? or lest I be impoverished and steal, and do violence to the Name of my God.
9 para que eu não fique cheio, e te negue, e diga: Quem é o SENHOR? Ou para que eu não fique pobre, e roube, e tome o nome do meu Deus em vão.
10 Do not slander a servant to his master, lest he revile thee, and thou be found guilty.
10 Não acuses um servo diante de seu senhor, para que não te amaldiçoe e tu sejas achado culpado.
11 A generation! Its father, it revileth, and, its mother, it doth not bless.
11 Há uma geração que amaldiçoa a seu pai, e que não abençoa a sua mãe.
12 A generation! Pure in its own eyes, yet, from its filth, hath it not been bathed,
12 Há uma geração que é pura aos seus próprios olhos, e ainda assim, não é lavada da sua imundícia.
13 A generation! How lofty are its eyes, and its eyelashes uplifted.
13 Há uma geração cujos olhos são altivos, e as suas pálpebras são levantadas.
14 A generation! Swords, are its teeth, and, knives, its incisors,to devour the humbled out of the earth, and the needy, from among men.
14 Há uma geração cujos dentes são como espadas, e os seus dentes da mandíbula como facas, para devorarem os pobres da terra, e os necessitados dentre os homens.
15 The vampire, hath two daughters, Give! Give! Three, there are will not be satisfied, four, have not said, Enough!
15 A sanguessuga tem duas filhas chorando: Dá e Dá. Há três coisas que nunca estão satisfeitas; sim, quatro coisas que não dizem: É o suficiente:
16 Hades, and barrenness,A land not satisfied with water, and fire, that saith not, Enough!
16 a sepultura, o útero estéril, a terra que não é cheia de água, e o fogo que não diz: É o suficiente.
17 The eye that mocketh a father, and despiseth to obey a mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young of the eagle shall eat it.
17 O olho que zomba de seu pai, e despreza obedecer à sua mãe; os corvos do vale o catarão, e as jovens águias o comerão.
18 Three, things there are, too difficult for me, yea, four, which I do not understand:
18 Há três coisas que são maravilhosas demais para mim; sim, quatro que eu não conheço:
19 The way of an eagle in the heavens, the way of a serpent on the rock,the way of a ship in the heart of the sea, and the way of a man with a maid.
19 o caminho da águia no ar, o caminho da serpente sobre a rocha, o caminho do navio no meio do mar, e o caminho do homem com uma virgem.
20 So, is the way of a woman committing adultery,she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no iniquity!
20 Assim é o caminho de uma mulher adúltera: ela come, limpa a sua boca, e diz: Não fiz perversidade.
21 Under three things, a land is stirred, yea, under four, she cannot bear up:
21 Por três coisas se inquieta a terra; e por quatro que ela não consegue suportar:
22 Under a servant, when he reigneth, and a base man, when he is surfeited with food;
22 pelo servo, quando reina; e pelo tolo, quando é cheio de alimento;
23 Under a hateful woman, when she is married, and a handmaid when she driveth out her mistress.
23 pela mulher odiosa, quando é casada; e pela serva, quando é herdeira da sua senhora.
24 Four, things there are, the small of the earth,yet, they, are wiser than the wise:
24 Há quatro coisas que são pequenas sobre a terra, mas são demasiadamente sábias:
25 The ants, a people, not strong,yet prepare they, in summer, their food;
25 as formigas não são um povo forte, todavia preparam o seu alimento no verão;
26 The conies, a people of, no power, yet set they, among the crags, their house;
26 os coelhos nada são além de um povo débil, contudo, fazem suas casas na rocha;
27 King, is there none, to, the locusts,yet go forth in swarms, do they all;
27 as locustas não têm rei, entretanto eles todos saem em bandos;
28 The lizard, with hands, reneweth its hold,yet, the same, is in the palaces of the king.
28 a aranha se segura com as mãos, e está nos palácios dos reis.
29 Three, things there are which step along well, ye, four, which excel in going:
29 Há três coisas que vão bem; sim, quatro que são graciosas no seu andar:
30 The lion, hero among beasts, which turneth aside from the face of no one;
30 o leão, que é o mais forte entre os animais, e não foge de nada;
31 The greyhound, or the he-goat,and a king, having a band of soldiers with him.
31 o galgo, também o bode, e o rei contra quem não se pode resistir.
32 If thou hast acted basely by lifting thyself up,if thou hast plotted evil, mouth!
32 Se procedeste tolamente, elevando-te, ou se pensaste o mal, põe tua mão sobre tua boca.
33 Surely, the pressing of milk, bringeth forth curd, and, the pressing of the nose, bringeth forth blood, and, the pressing of wrath, bringeth forth strife.
33 Certamente o bater do leite produz manteiga, e o torcer do nariz produz sangue; assim o forçar da ira produz contenda.
