1 Be not thou envious of wicked men, neither crave to be with them;
1 Não tenhas inveja dos homens malignos, nem queiras estar com eles,
2 For, violence, their heart muttereth, and, mischief, their lips do speak.
2 porque o seu coração maquina violência, e os seus lábios falam para o mal.
3 In wisdom, is a house builded, and, in understanding, is it established;
3 Com a sabedoria edifica-se a casa, e com a inteligência ela se firma;
4 And, in knowledge, chambers are filled, with all acquisitions, costly and fair.
4 pelo conhecimento se encherão as câmaras de toda sorte de bens, preciosos e deleitáveis.
5 A wise man, is mighty, and, a man of knowledge, becometh alert in vigour.
5 Mais poder tem o sábio do que o forte, e o homem de conhecimento, mais do que o robusto.
6 Surely, with concerted measures, shalt thou make for thyself war, and, success, lieth in the greatness of the counsellor.
6 Com medidas de prudência farás a guerra; na multidão de conselheiros está a vitória.
7 Unattainable to a foolish man, are the dictates of wisdom, in the gate, he openeth not his mouth.
7 A sabedoria é alta demais para o insensato; no juízo, a sua boca não terá palavra.
8 He that deviseth to do mischief, him, shall men call, a master of plots.
8 Ao que cuida em fazer o mal, mestre de intrigas lhe chamarão.
9 The purpose of folly, is sin, and, an abomination to mankind, is a buffoon.
9 Os desígnios do insensato são pecado, e o escarnecedor é abominável aos homens.
10 Thou hast been slothful in the day of straitness, Strait, is thy strength.
10 Se te mostras fraco no dia da angústia, a tua força é pequena.
11 Deliver thou such as are being led forth to death, and, them who are tottering to slaughter, oh that thou wouldst hold back!
11 Livra os que estão sendo levados para a morte e salva os que cambaleiam indo para serem mortos.
12 Though thou say, Lo! we knew not this, Shall not, he that proveth hearts, himself, discern? And, he that formeth thy soul, himself, know? and bring back to a son of earth according to his deed?
12 Se disseres: Não o soubemos, não o perceberá aquele que pesa os corações? Não o saberá aquele que atenta para a tua alma? E não pagará ele ao homem segundo as suas obras?
13 My son, eat thou honey, because it is good,and droppings from the comb sweet to thy palate:
13 Filho meu, saboreia o mel, porque é saudável, e o favo, porque é doce ao teu paladar.
14 Thus, take knowledge of wisdom, for thine own soul; If thou find it, then there is a future, and, thine expectation, shall not be cut off.
14 Então, sabe que assim é a sabedoria para a tua alma; se a achares, haverá bom futuro, e não será frustrada a tua esperança.
15 Do not lie in wait, thou lawless man, against the home of the righteous,neither destroy thou his place of rest;
15 Não te ponhas de emboscada, ó perverso, contra a habitação do justo, nem assoles o lugar do seu repouso,
16 For, seven times, may the righteous fall and yet arise, but, lawless men, shall stumble into calamity.
16 porque sete vezes cairá o justo e se levantará; mas os perversos são derribados pela calamidade.
17 When thine enemy falleth, do not thou rejoice, and, when he stumbleth, let not thy heart exult:
17 Quando cair o teu inimigo, não te alegres, e não se regozije o teu coração quando ele tropeçar;
18 Lest Yahweh see it, and it be wicked in his eyes, and he turn away from him his anger.
18 para que o Senhor não veja isso, e lhe desagrade, e desvie dele a sua ira.
19 Burn not with vexation against evil doers, be not envious of lawless men;
19 Não te aflijas por causa dos malfeitores, nem tenhas inveja dos perversos,
20 For there shall be no future for the wicked, The lamp of the lawless, shall go out.
20 porque o maligno não terá bom futuro, e a lâmpada dos perversos se apagará.
21 Revere thou Yahweh, my son, and the king, and, with the fickle, have thou no fellowship;
21 Teme ao Senhor , filho meu, e ao rei e não te associes com os revoltosos.
22 For, suddenly, shall arise their calamity; and, the misfortune of their years, who knoweth?
22 Porque de repente levantará a sua perdição, e a ruína que virá daqueles dois, quem a conhecerá?
23 These things also, concern he wise, To take note of faces in judgment, is not good.
23 São também estes provérbios dos sábios. Parcialidade no julgar não é bom.
24 He that saith to the lawless man, Righteous, thou art, peoples shall denounce him, populations shall curse him;
24 O que disser ao perverso: Tu és justo; pelo povo será maldito e detestado pelas nações.
25 But, to reprovers, one should be pleasant, and, upon them, should come an excellent blessing:
25 Mas os que o repreenderem se acharão bem, e sobre eles virão grandes bênçãos.
26 Lips, should one kiss with one who answereth in right words.
26 Como beijo nos lábios, é a resposta com palavras retas.
27 Prepare, in the open, thy work, and make ready, in the field, for thyself, Afterwards, shalt thou build thy house.
27 Cuida dos teus negócios lá fora, apronta a lavoura no campo e, depois, edifica a tua casa.
28 Do not become a needless witness against thy neighbour, so mightest thou open too wide thy lips:
28 Não sejas testemunha sem causa contra o teu próximo, nem o enganes com os teus lábios.
29 Do not sayAccording to what he hath done to me, so, will I do to him, I will repay every one according to his work.
29 Não digas: Como ele me fez a mim, assim lhe farei a ele; pagarei a cada um segundo a sua obra.
30 By the field of the sluggard, I passed, and by the vineyard of a man lacking sense;
30 Passei pelo campo do preguiçoso e junto à vinha do homem falto de entendimento;
31 And lo! there had come up all over itthorns, there had covered the face thereofthistles, and, the stone fence thereof, had been thrown down.
31 eis que tudo estava cheio de espinhos, a sua superfície, coberta de urtigas, e o seu muro de pedra, em ruínas.
32 So I observed it, for myself, I applied my heart, I lookedI accepted correction:
32 Tendo-o visto, considerei; vi e recebi a instrução.
33 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest:
33 Um pouco para dormir, um pouco para tosquenejar, um pouco para encruzar os braços em repouso,
34 So shall come in, as a highwayman, thy poverty, and, thy want, as one armed with a shield.
34 assim sobrevirá a tua pobreza como um ladrão, e a tua necessidade, como um homem armado.
