1 Be not thou envious of wicked men, neither crave to be with them;
1 Não tenhas inveja dos homens malignos; nem desejes estar com eles;
2 For, violence, their heart muttereth, and, mischief, their lips do speak.
2 porque o seu coração medita a violência; e os seus lábios falam maliciosamente.
3 In wisdom, is a house builded, and, in understanding, is it established;
3 Com a sabedoria se edifica a casa, e com o entendimento ela se estabelece;
4 And, in knowledge, chambers are filled, with all acquisitions, costly and fair.
4 e pelo conhecimento se encherão as câmaras de todas as riquezas preciosas e deleitáveis.
5 A wise man, is mighty, and, a man of knowledge, becometh alert in vigour.
5 O sábio é mais poderoso do que o forte; e o inteligente do que o que possui a força.
6 Surely, with concerted measures, shalt thou make for thyself war, and, success, lieth in the greatness of the counsellor.
6 Porque com conselhos prudentes tu podes fazer a guerra; e há vitória na multidão dos conselheiros.
7 Unattainable to a foolish man, are the dictates of wisdom, in the gate, he openeth not his mouth.
7 A sabedoria é alta demais para o insensato; ele não abre a sua boca na porta.
8 He that deviseth to do mischief, him, shall men call, a master of plots.
8 Aquele que cuida em fazer o mal, mestre de maus intentos o chamarão.
9 The purpose of folly, is sin, and, an abomination to mankind, is a buffoon.
9 O desígnio do insensato é pecado; e abominável aos homens é o escarnecedor.
10 Thou hast been slothful in the day of straitness, Strait, is thy strength.
10 Se enfraqueces no dia da angústia, a tua força é pequena.
11 Deliver thou such as are being led forth to death, and, them who are tottering to slaughter, oh that thou wouldst hold back!
11 Livra os que estão sendo levados à morte, detém os que vão tropeçando para a matança.
12 Though thou say, Lo! we knew not this, Shall not, he that proveth hearts, himself, discern? And, he that formeth thy soul, himself, know? and bring back to a son of earth according to his deed?
12 Se disseres: Eis que não o sabemos; porventura aquele que pesa os corações não o percebe? e aquele que guarda a tua vida não o sabe? e não retribuirá a cada um conforme a sua obra?
13 My son, eat thou honey, because it is good,and droppings from the comb sweet to thy palate:
13 Come mel, filho meu, porque é bom, e do favo de mel, que é doce ao teu paladar.
14 Thus, take knowledge of wisdom, for thine own soul; If thou find it, then there is a future, and, thine expectation, shall not be cut off.
14 Sabe que é assim a sabedoria para a tua alma: se a achares, haverá para ti recompensa, e não será malograda a tua esperança.
15 Do not lie in wait, thou lawless man, against the home of the righteous,neither destroy thou his place of rest;
15 Não te ponhas de emboscada, ó ímpio, contra a habitação do justo; nem assoles a sua pousada.
16 For, seven times, may the righteous fall and yet arise, but, lawless men, shall stumble into calamity.
16 Porque sete vezes cai o justo, e se levanta; mas os ímpios são derribados pela calamidade.
17 When thine enemy falleth, do not thou rejoice, and, when he stumbleth, let not thy heart exult:
17 Quando cair o teu inimigo, não te alegres, e quando tropeçar, não se regozije o teu coração;
18 Lest Yahweh see it, and it be wicked in his eyes, and he turn away from him his anger.
18 para que o Senhor não o veja, e isso seja mau aos seus olhos, e desvie dele, a sua ira.
19 Burn not with vexation against evil doers, be not envious of lawless men;
19 Não te aflijas por causa dos malfeitores; nem tenhas inveja dos ímpios;
20 For there shall be no future for the wicked, The lamp of the lawless, shall go out.
20 porque o maligno não tem futuro; e a lâmpada dos ímpios se apagará.
21 Revere thou Yahweh, my son, and the king, and, with the fickle, have thou no fellowship;
21 Filho meu, teme ao Senhor, e ao rei; e não te entremetas com os que gostam de mudanças.
22 For, suddenly, shall arise their calamity; and, the misfortune of their years, who knoweth?
22 Porque de repente se levantará a sua calamidade; e a ruína deles, quem a conhecerá?
23 These things also, concern he wise, To take note of faces in judgment, is not good.
23 Também estes são provérbios dos sábios: Fazer acepção de pessoas no juízo não é bom.
24 He that saith to the lawless man, Righteous, thou art, peoples shall denounce him, populations shall curse him;
24 Aquele que disser ao ímpio: Justo és; os povos o amaldiçoarão, as nações o detestarão;
25 But, to reprovers, one should be pleasant, and, upon them, should come an excellent blessing:
25 mas para os que julgam retamente haverá delícias, e sobre eles virá copiosa bênção.
26 Lips, should one kiss with one who answereth in right words.
26 O que responde com palavras retas beija os lábios.
27 Prepare, in the open, thy work, and make ready, in the field, for thyself, Afterwards, shalt thou build thy house.
27 Prepara os teus trabalhos de fora, apronta bem o teu campo; e depois edifica a tua casa.
28 Do not become a needless witness against thy neighbour, so mightest thou open too wide thy lips:
28 Não sejas testemunha sem causa contra o teu próximo; e não enganes com os teus lábios.
29 Do not sayAccording to what he hath done to me, so, will I do to him, I will repay every one according to his work.
29 Não digas: Como ele me fez a mim, assim lhe farei a ele; pagarei a cada um segundo a sua obra.
30 By the field of the sluggard, I passed, and by the vineyard of a man lacking sense;
30 Passei junto ao campo do preguiçoso, e junto à vinha do homem falto de entendimento;
31 And lo! there had come up all over itthorns, there had covered the face thereofthistles, and, the stone fence thereof, had been thrown down.
31 e eis que tudo estava cheio de cardos, e a sua superfície coberta de urtigas, e o seu muro de pedra estava derrubado.
32 So I observed it, for myself, I applied my heart, I lookedI accepted correction:
32 O que tendo eu visto, o considerei; e, vendo-o, recebi instrução.
33 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest:
33 Um pouco para dormir, um pouco para toscanejar, um pouco para cruzar os braços em repouso;
34 So shall come in, as a highwayman, thy poverty, and, thy want, as one armed with a shield.
34 assim sobrevirá a tua pobreza como um salteador, e a tua necessidade como um homem armado.
