1 Then responded Eliphaz the Temanite, and said:
1 Então, de Temã, Elifaz respondeu:
2 Unto GOD, can a man act as friend? Surely a discreet man befriendeth himself!
2 "Pode alguém ser útil a Deus? Mesmo um sábio, pode ser-lhe de algum proveito?
3 Is it a pleasure to the Almighty, that thou shouldst be righteous? or any profit, that thou shouldst be blameless in thy ways?
3 Que prazer você daria ao Todo-poderoso se você fosse justo? Que é que ele ganharia se os seus caminhos fossem irrepreensíveis?
4 Is it, for thy reverence, that he will accuse thee? will enter with thee into judgment?
4 "É por sua piedade que ele o repreende e lhe faz acusações?
5 Is not, thy wickedness, great? and, without end, thine iniquities?
5 Não é grande a sua maldade? Não são infindos os seus pecados?
6 Surely then hast been wont to put thy brother in pledge, for nothing, and, the garments of the ill-clad, hast thou stripped off:
6 Sem motivo você exigia penhores dos seus irmãos; você despojava das roupas os que quase nenhuma tinham.
7 No waterto the weary, hast thou given to drink, and, from the hungry, thou hast withheld broad:
7 Você não deu água ao sedento e reteve a comida do faminto,
8 A man of might, to him, pertaineth the land, and, the favorite, dwelleth therein:
8 sendo você poderoso, e dono de terras, delas vivendo, e honrado diante de todos.
9 Widows, thou hast sent away empty, and, the arms of the fatherless, thou dost crush.
9 Você mandou embora de mãos vazias as viúvas e quebrou a força dos órfãos.
10 For this cause, round about thee, are snares, and a dread startleth thee suddenly;
10 Por isso está cercado de armadilhas e o perigo repentino o apavora.
11 Or darknessthou canst not see, and, a flood of waters, covereth thee.
11 Também por isso você se vê envolto em escuridão que o cega, e o cobrem as águas, em tremenda inundação.
12 Is not, GOD, the height of the heavens? Behold, then, the head of the stars, that they are high.
12 "Não está Deus nas alturas dos céus? E em que altura estão as estrelas mais distantes!
13 Wilt thou say then, What doth GOD know? Out through a thick cloud, can he judge?
13 Contudo você diz: ‘Que é que Deus sabe? Poderá julgar através de tão grande escuridão?
14 Dark clouds, are a veil to him, and he cannot see, or, the vault of the heavens, doth he walk?
14 Nuvens espessas o cobrem, e ele não pode nos ver, quando percorre a abóbada dos céus’.
15 The path of the ancient time, wilt thou mark, which the men of iniquity trod?
15 Você vai continuar no velho caminho que os perversos palmilharam?
16 Who were snatched away before the time, and, a stream, washed away their foundation?
16 Estes foram levados antes da hora; seus alicerces foram arrastados por uma enchente.
17 Who had been saying unto GOD, Depart from us! andWhat can the Almighty do for himself?
17 Eles disseram a Deus: ‘Deixa-nos! Que é que o Todo-poderoso poderá fazer conosco? ’
18 Yet, he, had filled their houses with good! The counsel of the lawless, then, is far from me:
18 Contudo, foi ele que encheu de bens as casas deles; por isso fico longe do conselho dos ímpios.
19 The righteous shall see and rejoice, and, the innocent, shall laugh them to scorn:
19 "Os justos vêem a ruína deles, e se regozijam; os inocentes zombam deles, dizendo:
20 If our assailants do not vanish, then, their abundance, a fire consumeth!
20 ‘Certo é que os nossos inimigos foram destruídos, e o fogo devorou a sua riqueza’.
21 Shew thyself to be one with himI pray theeand prosper, thereby, shall there come on thee blessing.
21 "Sujeite-se a Deus, fique em paz com ele, e a prosperidade virá a você.
22 Accept, I beseech thee, from his mouthinstruction,and lay up his sayings in thy heart.
22 Aceite a instrução que vem da sua boca e ponha no coração as suas palavras.
23 If thou return unto the Almighty and submit thyself, if thou far remove perversity from thy tent,
23 Se você voltar-se para o Todo-poderoso, voltará ao seu lugar: Se afastar da sua tenda a injustiça,
24 Then lay up, in the dust, precious ore, and, among the stones of the torrent-beds, fine gold:
24 lançar ao pó as suas pepitas, o seu ouro puro de Ofir às rochas dos vales,
25 So shall, the Almighty, become, thy precious ores, yea glittering silver unto thee!
25 o Todo-poderoso será o seu ouro, será para você prata seleta.
26 For, then, in the Almighty, shalt thou take exquisite delight, and shalt lift upunto GODthy face;
26 É certo que você achará prazer no Todo-poderoso e erguerá o rosto para Deus.
27 Thou shalt make entreaty unto him, and he will hear thee, and, thy vows, shalt thou pay;
27 A ele orará, e ele o ouvirá, e você cumprirá os seus votos.
28 And thou shalt decree a purpose, and it shall be fulfilled unto thee, and, upon thy ways, shall have shone a light;
28 O que você decidir se fará, e a luz brilhará em seus caminhos.
29 When men cast themselves down, then thou shalt say: Up! And, him that is of downcast eyes, shall he save;
29 Quando os homens forem humilhados e você disser: ‘Levanta-os! ’, ele salvará o abatido.
30 He shall deliver the innocent, and thou shalt escape by the pureness of thy hands.
30 Livrará até o que não é inocente, que será liberto graças à pureza que há nas suas mãos".
