¹ Then commenced Elihu, and said,

¹ Em seguida Eliú disse:

² Dost thou deem this to be just, that thou hast said, "My righteousness is more than Gods?"

² “Jó, você não tem o direito de dizer que para Deus você é inocente

³ For thou sayest, "What benefit will it be unto thee? what more profit shall I have, than if I had sinned?"

³ e também não pode perguntar assim: ‘Ó Deus, será que te sentes mal com o meu pecado? E que vantagem tenho se não pecar?’

⁴ I will truly reply unto thee with words, and unto thy friends with thee.

⁴ Pois eu vou responder a você e também aos seus amigos.

⁵ Look unto the heavens, and see; and gaze on the skies which are higher than thou.

⁵ “Olhe para o céu e veja como as nuvens estão muito acima de você.

⁶ If thou sin, what dost thou effect against him? and if thy transgressions be multiplied, what canst thou do unto him?

⁶ Se você peca, isso não atinge a Deus lá no alto; as suas faltas, por muitas que sejam, não vão prejudicar a Deus.

⁷ If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what doth he accept out of thy hand?

⁷ Se você faz o bem, não está ajudando a Deus; ele não precisa de nada que é seu.

⁸ A man like thyself thy wickedness may reach, and a son of earth thy righteousness.

⁸ São os outros que sofrem por causa dos pecados que você comete; e também são eles que são ajudados quando você pratica o bem.

⁹ By reason of the multitude of oppressions the wicked cause men to cry: these complain aloud because of the arm of the mighty.

⁹ “Os homens, quando são perseguidos por todos os lados, gemem e gritam, pedindo que alguém os livre das mãos dos poderosos;

¹⁰ But man saith not, Where is God my maker, who bestoweth joyful songs even in the night;

¹⁰ porém não voltam para Deus, o seu Criador, que dá forças nas horas mais escuras.

¹¹ Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of the heavens?

¹¹ Eles não voltam para Deus, que os torna sábios, mais sábios do que as aves e os animais.

¹² There do they cry, but he answereth not: because of the pride of evil men.

¹² Eles gritam por socorro, mas Deus não responde porque são orgulhosos e maus.

¹³ Only what is false will God not hear, nor will the Almighty regard it.

¹⁴ Although thou sayest, thou canst not see him: yet the decision is before him; and do thou wait for him.

¹⁴ “Jó, você diz que não pode ver a Deus; mas espere com paciência, pois a sua causa está com ele.

¹⁵ But now, because his anger hath punished nothing, shall he not greatly take cognizance of the multitude of sins?

¹⁵ Você pensa que Deus não castiga, que ele não presta muita atenção no pecado.

¹⁶ But Job openeth wide his mouth for nought: without knowledge he heapeth up words.

¹⁶ Não adianta nada continuar o seu discurso; você fala muito, porém não sabe o que está dizendo.”
