1 Then answered Job, and said,
1 Jó respondeu então nestes termos:
2 I have heard many things such as these: troublesome comforters are ye all.
2 Já ouvi muitas vezes discursos semelhantes, sois todos uns consoladores importunos.
3 Shall there be any end to words of wind? or what compelleth thee that thou shouldst answer?
3 Quando terão fim essas palavras atiradas ao ar? Que é que te excitava a falar?
4 I also could well speak as ye do: if your soul were but in my souls stead, I could overwhelm you with words, and could shake my head at you.
4 Eu também podia falar como vós, se estivésseis em meu lugar. Arranjaria discursos a vosso respeito, e sacudiria a cabeça acerca de vós;
5 But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the condolence of my lips should restrain your grief.
5 eu vos encorajaria verbalmente, e moveria os meus lábios sem nenhuma avareza.
6 Though I were to speak, my pain would not be restrained; and though I should forbear, what will go away from me?
6 Se falo, nem por isso se aplaca a minha dor; se calo, estará ela consolada?
7 But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.
7 Mas Deus me extenuou; estou aniquilado; toda a sua tropa me pegou.
8 And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, they are my witnesses; and my leanness riseth up for me, giveth its testimony to my face.
8 Minha magreza tornou-se testemunho contra mim, ela depõe contra mim.
9 In his wrath he teareth me to pieces, and assaileth me: he gnasheth over me with his teeth; my adversary sendeth threatening looks at me.
9 Sua cólera me fere e me persegue, ele range os dentes contra mim. Meus inimigos dardejam os olhos sobre mim.
10 They now open wide against me their mouth; reproachfully they smite my cheek: altogether do they assemble against me.
10 Abrem a boca para me devorar; batem-me na face para me ultrajar, rebelam-se todos contra mim.
11 God hath surrendered me to the unjust, and cast me down into the hands of the wicked.
11 Deus me entrega aos perversos, joga-me nas mãos dos malvados.
12 I was at ease, but he hath crushed me; he hath also grasped me by the neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up unto himself as a mark;
12 Eu estava em paz, ele ma tirou, segurou-me pela nuca e me pôs em pedaços. Tomou-me como alvo.
13 His archers encompass me round about; he cleaveth my reins sunder, and doth not pity; he poureth out upon the ground my gall;
13 Suas setas voam em volta de mim. Ele rasga meus rins sem piedade, espalha meu fel por terra.
14 He breaketh me down with breach upon breach; he runneth against me like a mighty man.
14 Abre em mim brecha sobre brecha, ataca-me como um guerreiro.
15 Sackcloth have I sewed upon my skin, and my horn I roll in the dust.
15 Cosi um saco sobre minha pele, rolei minha fronte no pó.
16 My face gloweth from weeping, and on my eyelids resteth the shadow of death:
16 Meu rosto está vermelho de lágrimas, a sombra da morte estende-se sobre minhas pálpebras.
17 Not because any violence is in my hands, and while my prayer is pure.
17 Entretanto, não há violência em minhas mãos e minha oração é pura.
18 Earth! do thou not cover up my blood, and let no place restrain my cry.
18 Ó terra, não cubras o meu sangue, e que seu grito não seja sufocado pela tumba.
19 Even now, behold, my witness is in the heavens, and one that testifieth for me is on high.
19 Tenho desde já uma testemunha no céu, um defensor na alturas.
20 Are my friends my defenders? unto God my eye poureth out its tears.
20 Minha oração subiu até Deus, meus olhos choram diante dele.
21 And oh that a man might plead with God, as one son of earth with the other!
21 Que ele mesmo julgue entre o homem e Deus, entre o homem e seu semelhante!
22 For when the numbered years are passed, then must I travel a path whence I cannot return.
22 Pois meus anos contados se esgotam, entro numa vereda por onde não passarei de novo.
