Provérbios 22

1 A [good] reputation [is] rather to be chosen than great riches [and] good grace rather than silver and gold.
1 O bom nome vale mais do que muita riqueza; ser estimado é melhor do que ter prata e ouro.
2 The rich and poor meet together; the LORD [is] the maker of them all.
2 Não existe diferença entre o rico e o pobre porque foi o Senhor Deus quem fez os dois.
3 A prudent [man] foresees the evil and hides himself, but the simple pass on and receive hurt.
3 A pessoa sensata vê o perigo e se esconde; mas a insensata vai em frente e acaba mal.
4 Riches and honour and life [are] the remuneration of humility and of the fear of the LORD.
4 Quem teme o Senhor e é humilde consegue riqueza, prestígio e vida longa.
5 Thorns [and] snares [are] in the way of the perverse; he that keeps his soul shall be far from them.
5 No caminho dos maus existem armadilhas e dificuldades; quem dá valor à vida se afasta deles.
6 Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.
6 Eduque a criança no caminho em que deve andar, e até o fim da vida não se desviará dele.
7 The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower [is] servant to the lender.
7 Os ricos mandam nos pobres, e quem toma emprestado é escravo de quem empresta.
8 He that sows iniquity shall reap iniquity, and the rod of his anger shall fail.
8 Quem semeia a maldade colhe a desgraça e será castigado pelo seu próprio ódio.
9 He that has a merciful eye shall be blessed, for he gives of his bread to the destitute.
9 Quem é bondoso será abençoado porque reparte a sua comida com os pobres.
10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; strife and reproach shall cease.
10 Mande embora a pessoa orgulhosa, e acabarão os desentendimentos, as discussões e os xingamentos.
11 He that loves pureness of heart, [for] the grace of his lips the king [shall be] his friend.
11 Quem ama a sinceridade e sabe falar bem terá a amizade do rei.
12 The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthrows the words of the transgressor.
12 O Senhor Deus está alerta para defender a verdade e atrapalhar os planos dos mentirosos.
13 The slothful [man] says, [There is] a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.
13 O preguiçoso fica em casa e diz: “Se eu sair, o leão me pega.”
14 The mouth of strange women [is] a deep pit; he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.
14 O adultério é uma armadilha onde caem as pessoas que o Senhor detesta.
15 Foolishness [is] bound in the heart of a child, [but] the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
15 É natural que as crianças façam tolices, mas a correção as ensinará a se comportarem.
16 He that oppresses the poor to increase his [riches] [and] who gives to the rich [shall] surely [come] to want.
16 Quem enriquece à custa dos pobres ou dando presentes aos ricos acabará ficando pobre.
17 Bow down thine ear and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my wisdom.
17 Preste atenção, e eu lhe ensinarei o que os sábios disseram. Estude os seus ensinamentos,
18 For [it is] a delightful thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall be ordered together in thy lips.
18 e será um prazer para você lembrar deles e recitá-los.
19 That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.
19 Vou lhe ensinar agora estes provérbios para que você ponha a sua confiança em Deus.
20 Have I not written unto thee three times in counsels and knowledge,
20 Tomei nota de trinta provérbios para você. Eles contêm conhecimentos e bons conselhos,
21 that I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth, that thou mightest answer the words of truth to those that send unto thee?
21 que o ajudarão a saber o que é certo e direito. E assim, quando lhe fizerem perguntas, você saberá dar a resposta certa. — 1 —
22 Rob not the poor, because he [is] poor: neither destroy the destitute in judgment:
22 Não tire vantagem do pobre só porque ele é pobre, nem se aproveite daqueles que não tiverem quem os defenda no tribunal.
23 For the LORD will judge their cause and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.
23 Pois o Senhor defenderá a causa deles e ameaçará a vida de quem os ameaçar. — 2 —
24 Do not meddle with an angry man, and with a furious man thou shalt not go:
24 Não faça amizade com pessoas grosseiras ou violentas;
25 Lest thou learn his ways and get a snare to thy soul.
25 você poderá pegar os seus maus costumes e depois não conseguirá livrar-se deles. — 3 —
26 Be not thou [one]of them that strike hands [or] of them that are sureties for debts.
26 Não aceite ser fiador de ninguém
27 If thou hast nothing to pay, why should they take away thy bed from under thee?
27 porque, se você não puder pagar a dívida, levarão embora até a sua cama. — 4 —
28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.
28 Não mude de lugar os marcos de divisa de terras que os seus antepassados colocaram. — 5 —
29 Seest thou a man diligent in his work? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before obscure [men].:
29 Você conhece alguém que faz bem o seu trabalho? Saiba que ele é melhor do que a maioria e merece estar na companhia de reis.
