1 But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I disdained to set with the dogs of my flock.
1 "Mas agora eles zombam de mim, homens mais jovens que eu, homens cujos pais eu teria rejeitado, não lhes permitindo sequer estar com os cães de guarda do rebanho.
2 Yea, the strength of their hands, whereto should it profit me? men in whom ripe age is perished.
2 De que me serviria a força de suas mãos, já que desapareceu o seu vigor?
3 They are gaunt with want and famine; they gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of wasteness and desolation.
3 Desfigurados de tanta necessidade e fome, perambulavam pela terra ressequida, em sombrios e devastados desertos.
4 They pluck salt-wort with wormwood; and the roots of the broom are their food.
4 Nos campos de mato rasteiro colhiam ervas, e a raiz da giesta era a sua comida.
5 They are driven forth from the midst of men; they cry after them as after a thief.
5 Da companhia dos amigos foram expulsos aos gritos, como se fossem ladrões.
6 In the clefts of the valleys must they dwell, in holes of the earth and of the rocks.
6 Foram forçados a morar nos leitos secos dos rios, entre as rochas e nos buracos da terra.
7 Among the bushes they bray; under the nettles they are gathered together.
7 Rugiam entre os arbustos e se encolhiam sob a vegetação.
8 They are children of churls, yea, children of ignoble men; they were scourged out of the land.
8 Prole desprezível e sem nome, foram expulsos da terra.
9 And now I am become their song, yea, I am a byword unto them.
9 "E agora os filhos deles zombam de mim com suas canções; tornei-me um provérbio entre eles.
10 They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.
10 Eles me detestam e se mantêm à distância; não hesitam em cuspir em meu rosto.
11 For He hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, and they have cast off the bridle before me.
11 Agora que Deus afrouxou a corda do meu arco e me afligiu, eles ficam sem freios na minha presença.
12 Upon my right hand rise the brood; they entangle my feet, and they cast up against me their ways of destruction.
12 À direita os embrutecidos me atacam; preparam armadilhas para os meus pés, e constroem rampas de cerco contra mim.
13 They break up my path, they further my calamity, even men that have no helper.
13 Destroem o meu caminho; conseguem destruir-me, sem a ajuda de ninguém.
14 As through a wide breach they come; in the midst of the ruin they roll themselves upon me.
14 Avançam como através de uma grande brecha; arrojam-se entre as ruínas.
15 Terrors are turned upon me, they chase mine honour as the wind; and my welfare is passed away as a cloud.
15 Pavores apoderam-se de mim; a minha dignidade é levada como pelo vento, a minha segurança se desfaz como nuvem.
16 And now my soul is poured out within me; days of affliction have taken hold upon me.
16 "E agora esvai-se a minha vida; estou preso a dias de sofrimento.
17 In the night my bones are pierced, and fall from me, and my sinews take no rest.
17 A noite penetra os meus ossos; minhas dores me corroem sem cessar.
18 By the great force of my disease is my garment disfigured; it bindeth me about as the collar of my coat.
18 Em seu grande poder Deus é como a minha roupa; ele me envolve como a gola da minha veste.
19 He hath cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.
19 Lança-me na lama, e sou reduzido a pó e cinza.
20 I cry unto Thee, and Thou dost not answer me; I stand up, and Thou lookest at me.
20 "Clamo a ti, ó Deus, mas não respondes; fico de pé, mas apenas olhas para mim.
21 Thou art turned to be cruel to me; with the might of Thy hand Thou hatest me.
21 Contra mim te voltas com dureza e me atacas com a força de tua mão.
22 Thou liftest me up to the wind, Thou causest me to ride upon it; and Thou dissolvest my substance.
22 Tu me apanhas e me levas contra o vento, e me jogas de um lado a outro na tempestade.
23 For I know that Thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.
23 Sei que me farás descer até a morte, ao lugar destinado a todos os viventes.
24 Surely none shall put forth his hand to a ruinous heap, neither because of these things shall help come in one's calamity,
24 "A verdade é que ninguém dá a mão ao homem arruinado, quando este, em sua aflição, grita por socorro.
25 If I have not wept for him that was in trouble, and if my soul grieved not for the needy.
25 Não é certo que chorei por causa dos que passavam dificuldade? E que a minha alma entristeceu-se por causa dos pobres?
26 Yet, when I looked for good, there came evil; and when I waited for light, there came darkness.
26 Mesmo assim, quando eu esperava o bem, veio o mal; quando eu procurava luz, vieram trevas.
27 Mine inwards boil, and rest not; days of affliction are come upon me.
27 Nunca pára a agitação dentro de mim; dias de sofrimento me confrontam.
28 I go mourning without the sun; I stand up in the assembly, and cry for help.
28 Perambulo escurecido, mas não pelo sol; levanto-me na assembléia e clamo por ajuda.
29 I am become a brother to jackals, and a companion to ostriches.
29 Tornei-me irmão dos chacais, companheiro das corujas.
30 My skin is black, and falleth from me, and my bones are burned with heat.
30 Minha pele escurece e cai; meu corpo queima de febre.
31 Therefore is my harp turned to mourning, and my pipe into the voice of them that weep.
31 Minha harpa está afinada para cantos fúnebres, e minha flauta para o som de pranto.
