1 The Parables of Salomon the sonne of Dauid King of Israel,
1 Estes são os provérbios de Salomão, filho de Davi, rei de Israel.
2 To knowe wisdome, and instruction, to vnderstand ye wordes of knowledge,
2 Sua finalidade é ensinar sabedoria e disciplina às pessoas e ajudá-las a compreender as instruções dos sábios.
3 To receiue instruction to do wisely, by iustice and iudgement and equitie,
3 Sua finalidade é ensinar-lhes uma vida disciplinada e bem-sucedida e ajudá-las a fazer o que é certo, justo e imparcial.
4 To giue vnto the simple, sharpenesse of wit, and to the childe knowledge and discretion.
4 Estes provérbios darão juízo aos ingênuos e conhecimento e discernimento aos jovens.
5 A wise man shall heare and increase in learning, and a man of vnderstanding shall attayne vnto wise counsels,
5 O sábio que os ouvir se tornará ainda mais sábio. Quem tem entendimento receberá orientação,
6 To vnderstand a parable, and the interpretation, the wordes of ye wise, and their darke sayings.
6 ao examinar o significado destes provérbios e parábolas, das palavras dos sábios e seus enigmas.
7 The feare of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fooles despise wisedome and instruction.
7 O temor do S enhor é o princípio do conhecimento, mas os tolos desprezam a sabedoria e a disciplina.
8 My sonne, heare thy fathers instruction, and forsake not thy mothers teaching.
8 Meu filho, preste atenção à correção de seu pai e não deixe de lado a instrução de sua mãe.
9 For they shalbe a comely ornament vnto thine head, and as chaines for thy necke.
9 O que aprender com eles será coroa de graça em sua cabeça e colar de honra em seu pescoço.
10 My sonne, if sinners doe intise thee, consent thou not.
10 Meu filho, se pecadores quiserem seduzi-lo, não permita que isso aconteça.
11 If they say, Come with vs, we will lay waite for blood, and lie priuilie for the innocent without a cause:
11 Talvez lhe digam: “Venha conosco! Vamos nos esconder e matar alguém. Armaremos emboscada contra inocentes, só para passar o tempo.
12 We wil swallow them vp aliue like a graue euen whole, as those that goe downe into the pit:
12 Vamos engoli-los vivos, como a sepultura; vamos engoli-los inteiros, como os que descem à cova.
13 We shall finde all precious riches, and fill our houses with spoyle:
13 Encontraremos todo tipo de riquezas e encheremos nossas casas com tudo que roubarmos.
14 Cast in thy lot among vs: we will all haue one purse:
14 Venha, junte-se a nós! Dividiremos igualmente os despojos”.
15 My sonne, walke not thou in the way with them: refraine thy foote from their path.
15 Meu filho, não vá com eles! Afaste-se de seus caminhos.
16 For their feete runne to euill, and make haste to shed blood.
16 Eles correm para fazer o mal; apressam-se em derramar sangue.
17 Certainely as without cause the net is spred before the eyes of all that hath wing:
17 Se um pássaro vê alguém montar a armadilha, sabe que não deve se aproximar.
18 So they lay waite for blood and lie priuily for their liues.
18 Eles, porém, armam emboscadas para si mesmos; tentam acabar com a própria vida.
19 Such are the wayes of euery one that is greedy of gaine: he would take away the life of the owners thereof.
19 Esse é o destino de todos os gananciosos; sua própria cobiça os destrói.
20 Wisdome cryeth without: she vttereth her voyce in the streetes.
20 A Sabedoria grita nas ruas e levanta a voz na praça pública.
21 She calleth in the hye streete, among the prease in the entrings of the gates, and vttereth her wordes in the citie, saying,
21 Sim, proclama nas avenidas e anuncia em frente à porta da cidade:
22 O ye foolish, howe long will ye loue foolishnes? and the scornefull take their pleasure in scorning, and the fooles hate knowledge?
22 “Até quando vocês, ingênuos, insistirão em sua ingenuidade? Até quando vocês, zombadores, terão prazer na zombaria? Até quando vocês, tolos, detestarão o conhecimento?
23 (Turne you at my correction: loe, I will powre out my mind vnto you, and make you vnderstand my wordes)
23 Venham e ouçam minhas advertências; abrirei meu coração para vocês e os tornarei sábios.
24 Because I haue called, and ye refused: I haue stretched out mine hand, and none woulde regarde.
24 “Muitas vezes eu os chamei, mas não quiseram vir; estendi-lhes a mão, mas não me deram atenção.
25 But ye haue despised all my counsell, and would none of my correction.
25 Desprezaram meu conselho e rejeitaram minha repreensão.
26 I will also laugh at your destruction, and mocke, when your feare commeth.
26 Por isso, rirei quando estiverem em dificuldades; zombarei quando estiverem em apuros,
27 Whe your feare cometh like sudden desolation, and your destruction shall come like a whirle wind: whe affliction and anguish shall come vpon you,
27 quando a calamidade lhes sobrevier como a tempestade, e a desgraça os envolver como o furacão, e a angústia e a aflição os dominarem.
28 Then shall they call vpon me, but I will not answere: they shall seeke me early, but they shall not finde me,
28 “Quando clamarem por socorro, não responderei; ainda que me procurem, não me encontrarão.
29 Because they hated knowledge, and did not chuse the feare of the Lord.
29 Porque detestaram o conhecimento e escolheram não temer o S
30 They would none of my counsell, but despised all my correction.
30 Rejeitaram meu conselho e ignoraram minha repreensão.
31 Therefore shall they eate of ye fruite of their owne way, and be filled with their owne deuises.
31 Portanto, comerão os frutos amargos de seu estilo de vida e engasgarão em suas próprias intrigas.
32 For ease slaieth the foolish, and the prosperitie of fooles destroyeth them.
32 Pois os ingênuos se afastam de mim e rumam para a morte; os tolos são destruídos por sua própria acomodação.
33 But he that obeyeth me, shall dwell safely, and be quiet from feare of euill.
33 Os que me ouvem, porém, viverão em paz, tranquilos e sem temer o mal”.
