1 The Parables of Salomon the sonne of Dauid King of Israel,
1 Provérbios de Salomão, filho de Davi, rei de Israel:
2 To knowe wisdome, and instruction, to vnderstand ye wordes of knowledge,
2 Para se conhecer a sabedoria e a instrução; para se entenderem as palavras de inteligência;
3 To receiue instruction to do wisely, by iustice and iudgement and equitie,
3 para se instruir em sábio procedimento, em retidão, justiça e eqüidade;
4 To giue vnto the simple, sharpenesse of wit, and to the childe knowledge and discretion.
4 para se dar aos simples prudência, e aos jovens conhecimento e bom siso.
5 A wise man shall heare and increase in learning, and a man of vnderstanding shall attayne vnto wise counsels,
5 Ouça também, o sábio e cresça em ciência, e o entendido adquira habilidade,
6 To vnderstand a parable, and the interpretation, the wordes of ye wise, and their darke sayings.
6 para entender provérbios e parábolas, as palavras dos sábios, e seus enigmas.
7 The feare of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fooles despise wisedome and instruction.
7 O temor do Senhor é o princípio do conhecimento; mas os insensatos desprezam a sabedoria e a instrução.
8 My sonne, heare thy fathers instruction, and forsake not thy mothers teaching.
8 Filho meu, ouve a instrução de teu pai, e não deixes o ensino de tua mãe.
9 For they shalbe a comely ornament vnto thine head, and as chaines for thy necke.
9 Porque eles serão uma grinalda de graça para a tua cabeça, e colares para o teu pescoço.
10 My sonne, if sinners doe intise thee, consent thou not.
10 Filho meu, se os pecadores te quiserem seduzir, não consintas.
11 If they say, Come with vs, we will lay waite for blood, and lie priuilie for the innocent without a cause:
11 Se disserem: Vem conosco; embosquemo-nos para derramar sangue; espreitemos sem razão o inocente;
12 We wil swallow them vp aliue like a graue euen whole, as those that goe downe into the pit:
12 traguemo-los vivos, como o Seol, e inteiros como os que descem à cova;
13 We shall finde all precious riches, and fill our houses with spoyle:
13 acharemos toda sorte de bens preciosos; encheremos as nossas casas de despojos;
14 Cast in thy lot among vs: we will all haue one purse:
14 lançarás a tua sorte entre nós; teremos todos uma só bolsa;
15 My sonne, walke not thou in the way with them: refraine thy foote from their path.
15 filho meu, não andes no caminho com eles; guarda da sua vereda o teu pé,
16 For their feete runne to euill, and make haste to shed blood.
16 porque os seus pés correm para o mal, e eles se apressam a derramar sangue.
17 Certainely as without cause the net is spred before the eyes of all that hath wing:
17 Pois debalde se estende a rede à vista de qualquer ave.
18 So they lay waite for blood and lie priuily for their liues.
18 Mas estes se põem em emboscadas contra o seu próprio sangue, e as suas próprias vidas espreitam.
19 Such are the wayes of euery one that is greedy of gaine: he would take away the life of the owners thereof.
19 Tais são as veredas de todo aquele que se entrega à cobiça; ela tira a vida dos que a possuem.
20 Wisdome cryeth without: she vttereth her voyce in the streetes.
20 A suprema sabedoria altissonantemente clama nas ruas; nas praças levanta a sua voz.
21 She calleth in the hye streete, among the prease in the entrings of the gates, and vttereth her wordes in the citie, saying,
21 Do alto dos muros clama; às entradas das portas e na cidade profere as suas palavras:
22 O ye foolish, howe long will ye loue foolishnes? and the scornefull take their pleasure in scorning, and the fooles hate knowledge?
22 Até quando, ó estúpidos, amareis a estupidez? e até quando se deleitarão no escárnio os escarnecedores, e odiarão os insensatos o conhecimento?
23 (Turne you at my correction: loe, I will powre out my mind vnto you, and make you vnderstand my wordes)
23 Convertei-vos pela minha repreensão; eis que derramarei sobre vós o meu; espírito e vos farei saber as minhas palavras.
24 Because I haue called, and ye refused: I haue stretched out mine hand, and none woulde regarde.
24 Mas, porque clamei, e vós recusastes; porque estendi a minha mão, e não houve quem desse atenção;
25 But ye haue despised all my counsell, and would none of my correction.
25 antes desprezastes todo o meu conselho, e não fizestes caso da minha repreensão;
26 I will also laugh at your destruction, and mocke, when your feare commeth.
26 também eu me rirei no dia da vossa calamidade; zombarei, quando sobrevier o vosso terror,
27 Whe your feare cometh like sudden desolation, and your destruction shall come like a whirle wind: whe affliction and anguish shall come vpon you,
27 quando o terror vos sobrevier como tempestade, e a vossa calamidade passar como redemoinho, e quando vos sobrevierem aperto e angústia.
28 Then shall they call vpon me, but I will not answere: they shall seeke me early, but they shall not finde me,
28 Então a mim clamarão, mas eu não responderei; diligentemente me buscarão, mas não me acharão.
29 Because they hated knowledge, and did not chuse the feare of the Lord.
29 Porquanto aborreceram o conhecimento, e não preferiram o temor do Senhor;
30 They would none of my counsell, but despised all my correction.
30 não quiseram o meu conselho e desprezaram toda a minha repreensão;
31 Therefore shall they eate of ye fruite of their owne way, and be filled with their owne deuises.
31 portanto comerão do fruto do seu caminho e se fartarão dos seus próprios conselhos.
32 For ease slaieth the foolish, and the prosperitie of fooles destroyeth them.
32 Porque o desvio dos néscios os matará, e a prosperidade dos loucos os destruirá.
33 But he that obeyeth me, shall dwell safely, and be quiet from feare of euill.
33 Mas o que me der ouvidos habitará em segurança, e estará tranqüilo, sem receio do mal.
