1 The Parables of Salomon the sonne of Dauid King of Israel,
1 Estes são os provérbios de Salomão, filho de Davi, rei de Israel.
2 To knowe wisdome, and instruction, to vnderstand ye wordes of knowledge,
2 Eles ajudarão a experimentar a sabedoria e a disciplina; a compreender as palavras que dão entendimento;
3 To receiue instruction to do wisely, by iustice and iudgement and equitie,
3 a viver com disciplina e sensatez, fazendo o que é justo, direito e correto;
4 To giue vnto the simple, sharpenesse of wit, and to the childe knowledge and discretion.
4 ajudarão a dar prudência aos inexperientes e conhecimento e bom senso aos jovens.
5 A wise man shall heare and increase in learning, and a man of vnderstanding shall attayne vnto wise counsels,
5 Se o sábio der ouvidos, aumentará seu conhecimento, e quem tem discernimento obterá orientação
6 To vnderstand a parable, and the interpretation, the wordes of ye wise, and their darke sayings.
6 para compreender provérbios e parábolas, ditados e enigmas dos sábios.
7 The feare of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fooles despise wisedome and instruction.
7 O temor do Senhor é o princípio do conhecimento, mas os insensatos desprezam a sabedoria e a disciplina.
8 My sonne, heare thy fathers instruction, and forsake not thy mothers teaching.
8 Ouça, meu filho, a instrução de seu pai e não despreze o ensino de sua mãe.
9 For they shalbe a comely ornament vnto thine head, and as chaines for thy necke.
9 Eles serão um enfeite para a sua cabeça, um adorno para o seu pescoço.
10 My sonne, if sinners doe intise thee, consent thou not.
10 Meu filho, se os maus tentarem seduzi-lo, não ceda!
11 If they say, Come with vs, we will lay waite for blood, and lie priuilie for the innocent without a cause:
11 Se disserem: "Venha conosco; fiquemos de tocaia para matar alguém, vamos divertir-nos armando emboscada contra quem de nada suspeita!
12 We wil swallow them vp aliue like a graue euen whole, as those that goe downe into the pit:
12 Vamos engoli-los vivos, como a sepultura engole os mortos; vamos destruí-los inteiros, como são destruídos os que descem à cova;
13 We shall finde all precious riches, and fill our houses with spoyle:
13 acharemos todo tipo de objetos valiosos e encheremos as nossas casas com o que roubarmos;
14 Cast in thy lot among vs: we will all haue one purse:
14 junte-se ao nosso bando; dividiremos em partes iguais tudo o que conseguirmos! "
15 My sonne, walke not thou in the way with them: refraine thy foote from their path.
15 Meu filho, não vá pela vereda dessa gente! Afaste os pés do caminho que eles seguem,
16 For their feete runne to euill, and make haste to shed blood.
16 pois os pés deles correm para fazer o mal, estão sempre prontos para derramar sangue.
17 Certainely as without cause the net is spred before the eyes of all that hath wing:
17 Assim como é inútil estender a rede se as aves o observam,
18 So they lay waite for blood and lie priuily for their liues.
18 também esses homens não percebem que fazem tocaia contra a própria vida; armam emboscadas contra eles mesmos!
19 Such are the wayes of euery one that is greedy of gaine: he would take away the life of the owners thereof.
19 Tal é o caminho de todos os gananciosos; quem assim procede se destrói.
20 Wisdome cryeth without: she vttereth her voyce in the streetes.
20 A sabedoria clama em voz alta nas ruas, ergue a voz nas praças públicas;
21 She calleth in the hye streete, among the prease in the entrings of the gates, and vttereth her wordes in the citie, saying,
21 nas esquinas das ruas barulhentas ela clama, nas portas da cidade faz o seu discurso:
22 O ye foolish, howe long will ye loue foolishnes? and the scornefull take their pleasure in scorning, and the fooles hate knowledge?
22 "Até quando vocês, inexperientes, irão contentar-se com a sua inexperiência? Vocês, zombadores, até quando terão prazer na zombaria? E vocês, tolos, até quando desprezarão o conhecimento?
23 (Turne you at my correction: loe, I will powre out my mind vnto you, and make you vnderstand my wordes)
23 Se acatarem a minha repreensão, eu lhes darei um espírito de sabedoria e lhes revelarei os meus pensamentos.
24 Because I haue called, and ye refused: I haue stretched out mine hand, and none woulde regarde.
24 Vocês, porém, rejeitaram o meu convite; ninguém se importou quando estendi minha mão!
25 But ye haue despised all my counsell, and would none of my correction.
25 Visto que desprezaram totalmente o meu conselho e não quiseram aceitar a minha repreensão,
26 I will also laugh at your destruction, and mocke, when your feare commeth.
26 eu, de minha parte, vou rir-me da sua desgraça; zombarei quando o que temem se abater sobre vocês,
27 Whe your feare cometh like sudden desolation, and your destruction shall come like a whirle wind: whe affliction and anguish shall come vpon you,
27 quando aquilo que temem abater-se sobre vocês como uma tempestade, quando a desgraça os atingir como um vendaval, quando a angústia e a dor os dominarem.
28 Then shall they call vpon me, but I will not answere: they shall seeke me early, but they shall not finde me,
28 "Então vocês me chamarão, mas não responderei; procurarão por mim, mas não me encontrarão.
29 Because they hated knowledge, and did not chuse the feare of the Lord.
29 Visto que desprezaram o conhecimento e recusaram o temor do Senhor,
30 They would none of my counsell, but despised all my correction.
30 não quiseram aceitar o meu conselho e fizeram pouco caso da minha advertência,
31 Therefore shall they eate of ye fruite of their owne way, and be filled with their owne deuises.
31 comerão do fruto da sua conduta e se fartarão de suas próprias maquinações.
32 For ease slaieth the foolish, and the prosperitie of fooles destroyeth them.
32 Pois a inconstância dos inexperientes os matará, e a falsa segurança dos tolos os destruirá;
33 But he that obeyeth me, shall dwell safely, and be quiet from feare of euill.
33 mas quem me ouvir viverá em segurança e estará tranqüilo, sem temer nenhum mal".
