1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered, and sayde,
1 Então Elifaz, da região de Temã, em resposta disse:
2 If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieued? but who can withholde himselfe from speaking?
2 “Jó, será que você ficará ofendido se eu falar? Mas quem é que pode ficar calado?
3 Behold, thou hast taught many, and hast strengthened the wearie hands.
3 Você ensinou muita gente e deu forças a muitas pessoas desanimadas.
4 Thy wordes haue confirmed him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the weake knees.
4 Quando alguém tropeçava, cansado e fraco, as suas palavras o animavam a ficar de pé.
5 But now it is come vpon thee, and thou art grieued: it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
5 Mas agora que chegou a sua vez de sofrer, como é que você perde a paciência e a coragem?
6 Is not this thy feare, thy confidence, thy pacience, and the vprightnesse of thy wayes?
6 O seu temor a Deus não lhe dá confiança? A sua vida correta não o enche de esperança?
7 Remember, I pray thee: who euer perished, being an innocent? or where were the vpright destroyed?
7 Você lembra de alguma pessoa inocente que tenha caído na desgraça ou de alguma pessoa honesta que tenha sido destruída?
8 As I haue seene, they that plow iniquitie, and sowe wickednesse, reape the same.
8 Tenho notado que os que aram campos de maldade e plantam sementes de desgraça só colhem maldade e desgraça.
9 With the blast of God they perish, and with the breath of his nostrels are they cosumed.
9 Como uma tempestade, Deus os destrói na sua ira .
10 The roaring of the Lion, and the voyce of the Lionesse, and the teeth of the Lions whelpes are broken.
10 Eles rugem como um leão feroz, mas Deus os faz calar e lhes quebra os dentes.
11 The Lyon perisheth for lacke of pray, and the Lyons whelpes are scattered abroade.
11 Assim como leões que não podem caçar, eles morrem de fome, e os seus filhos se espalham.
12 But a thing was brought to me secretly, and mine eare hath receiued a litle thereof.
12 “Veio a mim de mansinho uma mensagem, em voz tão baixa, que mal pude ouvir.
13 In the thoughtes of ye visions of the night, when sleepe falleth on men,
13 À noite, quando as pessoas dormem um sono pesado, eu tive um pesadelo que me deixou agitado.
14 Feare came vpon me, and dread which made all my bones to tremble.
14 O terror tomou conta de mim, e o meu corpo inteiro começou a tremer.
15 And the wind passed before me, and made the heares of my flesh to stande vp.
15 Um sopro passou pelo meu rosto, e eu fiquei todo arrepiado.
16 Then stoode one, and I knewe not his face: an image was before mine eyes, and in silence heard I a voyce, saying,
16 Alguém estava ali; olhei bem, mas não pude ver a sua forma. Houve silêncio, e depois ouvi uma voz, que disse:
17 Shall man be more iust then God? or shall a man be more pure then his maker?
17 ‘Será que alguém pode ser correto diante de Deus? Será que alguém pode ser puro aos olhos do seu Criador?
18 Beholde, he founde no stedfastnesse in his Seruants, and laid follie vpon his Angels.
18 Deus não confia nem nos seus servidores celestiais e até nos seus anjos ele encontra defeitos.
19 Howe much more in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which shalbe destroyed before the moth?
19 Então você pensa que ele vai confiar nos seres humanos, que são feitos de barro, que foram criados do pó e que podem ser esmagados como uma traça?
20 They be destroyed from the morning vnto the euening: they perish for euer, without regarde.
20 Podemos estar vivos de manhã, mas de tarde morremos para sempre, e ninguém se importa.
21 Doeth not their dignitie goe away with them? do they not die, and that without wisdom?
21 A nossa vida se acaba como cai uma barraca, e morremos sem termos alcançado a sabedoria.’
