1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered, and sayde,
1 Então, respondeu Elifaz, o temanita, e disse:
2 If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieued? but who can withholde himselfe from speaking?
2 Se intentar alguém falar-te, enfadar-te-ás? Quem, todavia, poderá conter as palavras?
3 Behold, thou hast taught many, and hast strengthened the wearie hands.
3 Eis que tens ensinado a muitos e tens fortalecido mãos fracas.
4 Thy wordes haue confirmed him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the weake knees.
4 As tuas palavras têm sustentado aos que tropeçavam, e os joelhos vacilantes tens fortificado.
5 But now it is come vpon thee, and thou art grieued: it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
5 Mas agora, em chegando a tua vez, tu te enfadas; sendo tu atingido, te perturbas.
6 Is not this thy feare, thy confidence, thy pacience, and the vprightnesse of thy wayes?
6 Porventura, não é o teu temor de Deus aquilo em que confias, e a tua esperança, a retidão dos teus caminhos?
7 Remember, I pray thee: who euer perished, being an innocent? or where were the vpright destroyed?
7 Lembra-te: acaso, já pereceu algum inocente? E onde foram os retos destruídos?
8 As I haue seene, they that plow iniquitie, and sowe wickednesse, reape the same.
8 Segundo eu tenho visto, os que lavram a iniquidade e semeiam o mal, isso mesmo eles segam.
9 With the blast of God they perish, and with the breath of his nostrels are they cosumed.
9 Com o hálito de Deus perecem; e com o assopro da sua ira se consomem.
10 The roaring of the Lion, and the voyce of the Lionesse, and the teeth of the Lions whelpes are broken.
10 Cessa o bramido do leão e a voz do leão feroz, e os dentes dos leõezinhos se quebram.
11 The Lyon perisheth for lacke of pray, and the Lyons whelpes are scattered abroade.
11 Perece o leão, porque não há presa, e os filhos da leoa andam dispersos.
12 But a thing was brought to me secretly, and mine eare hath receiued a litle thereof.
12 Uma palavra se me disse em segredo; e os meus ouvidos perceberam um sussurro dela.
13 In the thoughtes of ye visions of the night, when sleepe falleth on men,
13 Entre pensamentos de visões noturnas, quando profundo sono cai sobre os homens,
14 Feare came vpon me, and dread which made all my bones to tremble.
14 sobrevieram-me o espanto e o tremor, e todos os meus ossos estremeceram.
15 And the wind passed before me, and made the heares of my flesh to stande vp.
15 Então, um espírito passou por diante de mim; fez-me arrepiar os cabelos do meu corpo;
16 Then stoode one, and I knewe not his face: an image was before mine eyes, and in silence heard I a voyce, saying,
16 parou ele, mas não lhe discerni a aparência; um vulto estava diante dos meus olhos; houve silêncio, e ouvi uma voz:
17 Shall man be more iust then God? or shall a man be more pure then his maker?
17 Seria, porventura, o mortal justo diante de Deus? Seria, acaso, o homem puro diante do seu Criador?
18 Beholde, he founde no stedfastnesse in his Seruants, and laid follie vpon his Angels.
18 Eis que Deus não confia nos seus servos e aos seus anjos atribui imperfeições;
19 Howe much more in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which shalbe destroyed before the moth?
19 quanto mais àqueles que habitam em casas de barro, cujo fundamento está no pó, e são esmagados como a traça!
20 They be destroyed from the morning vnto the euening: they perish for euer, without regarde.
20 Nascem de manhã e à tarde são destruídos; perecem para sempre, sem que disso se faça caso.
21 Doeth not their dignitie goe away with them? do they not die, and that without wisdom?
21 Se se lhes corta o fio da vida, morrem e não atingem a sabedoria.
