¹ My breath is corrupt: my dayes are cut off, and the graue is readie for me.

¹ O meu espírito se vai consumindo, os meus dias se vão apagando, e só tenho perante mim a sepultura.

² There are none but mockers with mee, and mine eye continueth in their bitternesse.

² Estou, de fato, cercado de zombadores, e os meus olhos são obrigados a lhes contemplar a provocação.

³ Lay downe nowe and put me in suretie for thee: who is hee, that will touch mine hand?

³ Dá-me, pois, um penhor; sê o meu fiador para contigo mesmo; quem mais haverá que se possa comprometer comigo?

⁴ For thou hast hid their heart from vnderstanding: therefore shalt thou not set them vp on hie.

⁴ Porque ao seu coração encobriste o entendimento, pelo que não os exaltarás.

⁵ For the eyes of his children shall faile, that speaketh flattery to his friends.

⁵ Se alguém oferece os seus amigos como presa, os olhos de seus filhos desfalecerão.

⁶ Hee hath also made mee a byword of the people, and I am as a Tabret before them.

⁶ Mas a mim me pôs por provérbio dos povos; tornei-me como aquele em cujo rosto se cospe.

⁷ Mine eye therefore is dimme for griefe, and all my strength is like a shadowe.

⁷ Pelo que já se escureceram de mágoa os meus olhos, e já todos os meus membros são como a sombra;

⁸ The righteous shalbe astonied at this, and the innocent shalbe moued against ye hypocrite.

⁸ os retos pasmam disto, e o inocente se levanta contra o ímpio.

⁹ But the righteous wil holde his way, and he whose hands are pure, shall increase his strength.

⁹ Contudo, o justo segue o seu caminho, e o puro de mãos cresce mais e mais em força.

¹⁰ All you therefore turne you, and come nowe, and I shall not finde one wise among you.

¹⁰ Mas tornai-vos, todos vós, e vinde cá; porque sábio nenhum acharei entre vós.

¹¹ My dayes are past, mine enterprises are broken, and the thoughts of mine heart

¹¹ Os meus dias passaram, e se malograram os meus propósitos, as aspirações do meu coração.

¹² Haue changed the nyght for the day, and the light that approched, for darkenesse.

¹² Convertem-me a noite em dia, e a luz, dizem, está perto das trevas.

¹³ Though I hope, yet the graue shall bee mine house, and I shall make my bed in the darke.

¹³ Mas, se eu aguardo já a sepultura por minha casa; se nas trevas estendo a minha cama;

¹⁴ I shall say to corruption, Thou art my father, and to the worme, Thou art my mother and my sister.

¹⁴ se ao sepulcro eu clamo: tu és meu pai; e aos vermes: vós sois minha mãe e minha irmã,

¹⁵ Where is then now mine hope? or who shall consider the thing, that I hoped for?

¹⁵ onde está, pois, a minha esperança? Sim, a minha esperança, quem a poderá ver?

¹⁶ They shall goe downe into the bottome of the pit: surely it shall lye together in the dust.

¹⁶ Ela descerá até às portas da morte, quando juntamente no pó teremos descanso.
