¹ My breath is corrupt: my dayes are cut off, and the graue is readie for me.

¹ O meu espírito se vai consumindo, os meus dias se vão apagando, e só tenho perante mim a sepultura.

² There are none but mockers with mee, and mine eye continueth in their bitternesse.

² Deveras estou cercado de zombadores, e os meus olhos contemplam as suas provocações.

³ Lay downe nowe and put me in suretie for thee: who is hee, that will touch mine hand?

³ Promete agora, e dá-me um fiador para contigo; quem há que me dê a mão?

⁴ For thou hast hid their heart from vnderstanding: therefore shalt thou not set them vp on hie.

⁴ Porque aos seus corações encobriste o entendimento, por isso não os exaltarás.

⁵ For the eyes of his children shall faile, that speaketh flattery to his friends.

⁵ O que denuncia os seus amigos, a fim de serem despojados, também os olhos de seus filhos desfalecerão.

⁶ Hee hath also made mee a byword of the people, and I am as a Tabret before them.

⁶ Porém a mim me pôs por um provérbio dos povos, de modo que me tornei uma abominação para eles.

⁷ Mine eye therefore is dimme for griefe, and all my strength is like a shadowe.

⁷ Pelo que já se escureceram de mágoa os meus olhos, e já todos os meus membros são como a sombra.

⁸ The righteous shalbe astonied at this, and the innocent shalbe moued against ye hypocrite.

⁸ Os retos pasmarão disto, e o inocente se levantará contra o hipócrita.

⁹ But the righteous wil holde his way, and he whose hands are pure, shall increase his strength.

⁹ E o justo seguirá o seu caminho firmemente, e o puro de mãos irá crescendo em força.

¹⁰ All you therefore turne you, and come nowe, and I shall not finde one wise among you.

¹⁰ Mas, na verdade, tornai todos vós e vinde; porque sábio nenhum acharei entre vós.

¹¹ My dayes are past, mine enterprises are broken, and the thoughts of mine heart

¹¹ Os meus dias passaram, e malograram os meus propósitos, as aspirações do meu coração.

¹² Haue changed the nyght for the day, and the light that approched, for darkenesse.

¹² Trocaram a noite em dia; a luz está perto do fim, por causa das trevas.

¹³ Though I hope, yet the graue shall bee mine house, and I shall make my bed in the darke.

¹³ Se eu esperar, a sepultura será a minha casa; nas trevas estenderei a minha cama.

¹⁴ I shall say to corruption, Thou art my father, and to the worme, Thou art my mother and my sister.

¹⁴ À corrupção clamo: Tu és meu pai; e aos vermes: Vós sois minha mãe e minha irmã.

¹⁵ Where is then now mine hope? or who shall consider the thing, that I hoped for?

¹⁵ Onde, pois, estaria agora a minha esperança? Sim, a minha esperança, quem a poderá ver?

¹⁶ They shall goe downe into the bottome of the pit: surely it shall lye together in the dust.

¹⁶ As barras da sepultura descerão quando juntamente no pó teremos descanso.
