1 My son, if thou hast become surety for another, If thou hast stricken hands for another,
1 Filho, você é fiador de alguém?
2 If thou hast become ensnared by the words of thy mouth, If thou hast been caught by the words of thy mouth,
2 Deu a sua palavra e ficou preso na promessa que fez?
3 Do this now, my son, and rescue thyself,—Since thou hast fallen into the hands of thy neighbor,—Go, prostrate thyself, and be urgent with thy neighbor!
3 Então, meu filho, agora você está nas mãos dessa pessoa. Mas há um jeito de sair disso: vá logo e peça que ela livre você dessa obrigação.
4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids;
4 Não durma, nem descanse;
5 Rescue thyself, as a roe from the hand, And as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
5 saia dessa armadilha, como um passarinho ou uma gazela escapa do caçador.
6 Go to the ant, O sluggard! Consider her ways, and be wise!
6 Preguiçoso, aprenda uma lição com as formigas!
7 She hath no governor, Nor overseer, nor ruler;
7 Elas não têm líder, nem chefe, nem governador,
8 Yet she prepareth in the summer her food, She gathereth in the harvest her meat.
8 mas guardam comida no verão, preparando-se para o inverno.
9 How long wilt thou lie in bed, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise from thy sleep?
9 Preguiçoso, até quando você vai ficar deitado? Quando vai se levantar?
10 “A little sleep,—a little slumber,—A little folding of the hands to rest:”
10 Então o preguiçoso diz: “Eu vou dormir somente um pouquinho, vou cruzar os braços e descansar mais um pouco.”
11 So shall thy poverty come upon thee like a robber, Yea, thy want, as an armed man!
11 Mas, enquanto ele dorme, a pobreza o atacará como um ladrão armado.
12 A worthless wretch is the unrighteous man, Who walketh with a deceitful mouth;
12 Os homens maus e sem valor vivem dizendo mentiras.
13 Who winketh with his eyes, Speaketh with his feet, And teacheth with his fingers.
13 Piscam e fazem gestos para enganar os outros.
14 Fraud is in his heart; He deviseth mischief continually; He scattereth contentions.
14 As suas mentes perversas estão sempre planejando o mal, e eles espalham confusão por toda parte.
15 Therefore shall calamity come upon him suddenly; In a moment shall he be destroyed, and that without remedy;
15 Por isso a desgraça cairá de repente sobre eles, e não poderão escapar. o olhar orgulhoso, a língua mentirosa, mãos que matam gente inocente, a mente que faz planos perversos, pés que se apressam para fazer o mal, a testemunha falsa que diz mentiras e a pessoa que provoca brigas entre amigos.
16 These six things doth the LORD hate; Yea, seven are an abomination to him:

17 Lofty eyes, a false tongue, And hands which shed innocent blood;
17 — ausente —
18 A heart that contriveth wicked devices; Feet that are swift in running to mischief,
18 — ausente —
19 A false witness, that uttereth lies, And him that soweth discord among brethren.
19 — ausente —
20 Keep, O my son! the commandment of thy father, And forsake not the precepts of thy mother!
20 Filho, faça o que o seu pai diz e nunca esqueça o que a sua mãe ensinou.
21 Bind them continually to thy heart, Tie them around thy neck!
21 Guarde sempre as suas palavras bem-gravadas no coração.
22 When thou goest forth, they shall guide thee; When thou sleepest, they shall watch over thee; And, when thou awakest, they shall talk with thee.
22 Os seus ensinamentos o guiarão quando você viajar, protegerão você de noite e aconselharão de dia.
23 For the commandment is a lamp, and instruction a light; Yea, the rebukes of correction lead to life.
23 As suas instruções são uma luz brilhante, e a sua correção ensina a viver.
24 They shall guard thee from the evil woman, From the smooth tongue of the unchaste woman.
24 Elas livrarão você da mulher imoral e das suas palavras sedutoras.
25 Desire not her beauty in thy heart, Nor let her catch thee with her eyelids;
25 Não seja tentado pela sua beleza, nem caia na armadilha dos seus olhos tentadores.
26 For by a harlot a man is brought to a morsel of bread, And the adulteress layeth snares for the precious life.
26 Qualquer homem pode ter uma prostituta por pouco dinheiro, mas o adultério custará a ele a sua própria vida.
27 Can a man take fire into his bosom, And his clothes not be burned?
27 Será que você pode carregar fogo no colo sem queimar a roupa?
28 Can one walk upon burning coals, And his feet not be scorched?
28 Será que você pode andar em cima de brasas sem queimar os pés?
29 So is it with him who goeth in to his neighbor's wife; Whoever toucheth her shall not go unpunished.
29 O homem que dorme com a mulher de outro corre esse mesmo perigo. Quem fizer isso terá de sofrer muito.
30 Men do not overlook a thief, Though he steal to satisfy his appetite, when he is hungry;
30 Quem rouba comida para matar a fome não é desprezado.
31 If found, he must repay sevenfold, And give up all the substance of his house.
31 Porém, se é apanhado, tem de pagar sete vezes mais: ele precisa entregar tudo o que tem.
32 Whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding; He that doeth it destroyeth himself;
32 No entanto o homem que comete adultério não tem juízo; ele está se destruindo a si mesmo.
33 Blows and dishonor shall he get, And his reproach shall not be wiped away.
33 Passará vergonha, levará uma surra e ficará desmoralizado para sempre.
34 For jealousy is the fury of a man; He will not spare in the day of vengeance;
34 Porque o ciúme faz o marido ficar furioso, e a sua vingança não tem limites.
35 And he will not pay regard to any ransom, Nor be content, though thou offer many gifts.
35 Ele não aceitará nenhum pagamento; e mesmo uma porção de presentes não acabará com a sua raiva.
