1 Elihu also proceeded, and said:
1 Prosseguiu ainda Eliú e disse:
2 Bear with me a little while, that I may show thee! For I have yet words in behalf of God.
2 Espera-me um pouco, e mostrar-te-ei que ainda há razões a favor de Deus.
3 I will bring my knowledge from afar, And assert the justice of my Maker.
3 De longe trarei o meu conhecimento, e ao meu criador atribuirei a justiça.
4 Truly my words shall not be false: A man of sound knowledge is before thee.
4 Pois, na verdade, as minhas palavras não serão falsas; contigo está um que tem perfeito conhecimento.
5 Behold, God is great, but despiseth not any; Great is he in strength of understanding.
5 Eis que Deus é mui poderoso, contudo a ninguém despreza; grande é no poder de entendimento.
6 He suffereth not the wicked to prosper, But rendereth justice to the oppressed.
6 Ele não preserva a vida do ímpio, mas faz justiça aos aflitos.
7 He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous; But establisheth them for ever with kings on the throne, That they may be exalted.
7 Do justo não aparta os seus olhos; antes com os reis no trono os faz sentar para sempre, e assim são exaltados.
8 And if they be bound in fetters, And holden in the cords of affliction,
8 E se estão presos em grilhões, e amarrados com cordas de aflição,
9 Then showeth he them their deeds, And how they have set him at defiance by their transgressions;
9 então lhes faz saber a obra deles, e as suas transgressões, porquanto se têm portado com soberba.
10 He also openeth their ears to admonition, And commandeth them to return from iniquity.
10 E abre-lhes o ouvido para a instrução, e ordena que se convertam da iniqüidade.
11 If they obey and serve him, They spend their days in prosperity, And their years in pleasures.
11 Se o ouvirem, e o servirem, acabarão seus dias em prosperidade, e os seus anos em delícias.
12 But if they obey not, they perish by the sword; They die in their own folly.
12 Mas se não o ouvirem, à espada serão passados, e expirarão sem conhecimento.
13 The corrupt in heart treasure up wrath; They cry not to God, when he bindeth them.
13 Assim os ímpios de coração amontoam, a sua ira; e quando Deus os põe em grilhões, não clamam por socorro.
14 They die in their youth; They close their lives with the unclean.
14 Eles morrem na mocidade, e a sua vida perece entre as prostitutas.
15 But he delivereth the poor in their distress; He openeth their ears in affliction.
15 Ao aflito livra por meio da sua aflição, e por meio da opressão lhe abre os ouvidos.
16 He will bring thee also from the jaws of distress To a broad place, where is no straitness; And the provision of thy table shall be full of fatness.
16 Assim também quer induzir-te da angústia para um lugar espaçoso, em que não há aperto; e as iguarias da tua mesa serão cheias de gordura.
17 But if thou art full of the judgment of the wicked, Judgment and justice shall take hold of thee.
17 Mas tu estás cheio do juízo do ímpio; o juízo e a justiça tomam conta de ti.
18 For if wrath be with him, beware lest he take thee away by his stroke, So that a great ransom shall not save thee!
18 Cuida, pois, para que a ira não te induza a escarnecer, nem te desvie a grandeza do resgate.
19 Will he esteem thy riches? No! neither thy gold, nor all the abundance of thy wealth.
19 Prevalecerá o teu clamor, ou todas as forças da tua fortaleza, para que não estejas em aperto?
20 Long not thou for that night To which nations are taken away from their place.
20 Não suspires pela noite, em que os povos sejam tomados do seu lugar.
21 Take heed, turn not thine eyes to iniquity! For this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.
21 Guarda-te, e não declines para a iniqüidade; porquanto isso escolheste antes que a aflição.
22 Behold, God is exalted in his power: Who is a teacher like him?
22 Eis que Deus é excelso em seu poder; quem é ensinador como ele?
23 Who hath prescribed to him his way? Or who can say to him, “Thou hast done wrong”?
23 Quem lhe prescreveu o seu caminho? Ou quem poderá dizer: Tu praticaste a injustiça?
24 Forget not to magnify his work, Which men celebrate with songs.
24 Lembra-te de engrandecer a sua obra, de que têm cantado os homens.
25 All mankind gaze upon it; Mortals behold it from afar.
25 Todos os homens a vêem; de longe a contempla o homem.
26 Behold, God is great; we cannot know him, Nor search out the number of his years.
26 Eis que Deus é grande, e nós não o conhecemos, e o número dos seus anos não se pode esquadrinhar.
27 Lo! he draweth up the drops of water, Which distil rain from his vapor;
27 Pois atrai a si as gotas de água, e do seu vapor as destila em chuva,
28 The clouds pour it down, And drop it upon man in abundance.
28 que as nuvens derramam e gotejam abundantemente sobre o homem.
29 Who can understand the spreading of his clouds, And the rattling of his pavilion?
29 Poderá alguém entender as dilatações das nuvens, e os trovões do seu pavilhão?
30 Behold, he spreadeth around himself his light, And he clotheth himself with the depths of the sea.
30 Eis que ao redor de si estende a sua luz, e cobre o fundo do mar.
31 By these he punisheth nations, And by these he giveth food in abundance.
31 Pois por estas coisas julga os povos e lhes dá mantimento em abundância.
32 His hands he covereth with lightning; He giveth it commandment against an enemy.
32 Cobre as mãos com o relâmpago, e dá-lhe ordem para que fira o alvo.
33 His thunder maketh him known; Yea, to the herds, as he ascendeth on high.
33 O fragor da tempestade dá notícia dele; até o gado pressente a sua aproximação.
