1 Wilt thou draw out the leviathan with the hook, and press down his tongue with a cord?
1 "Você consegue pescar com anzol o leviatã ou prender sua língua com uma corda?
2 Wilt thou put a rush-rope into his nose, and pierce his jaw with a spike?
2 Consegue fazer passar um cordão pelo seu nariz ou atravessar seu queixo com um gancho?
3 Will he make many supplications unto thee? or will he speak softly unto thee?
3 Pensa que ele vai lhe implorar misericórdia e lhe vai falar palavras amáveis?
4 Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him as a bondman for ever?
4 Acha que ele vai fazer acordo com você, para que você o tenha como escravo pelo resto da vida?
5 Wilt thou play with him as with a bird, and wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
5 Acaso você consegue fazer dele um bichinho de estimação, como se ele fosse um passarinho, ou pôr-lhe uma coleira para as suas filhas?
6 Shall partners make traffic of him, will they divide him among merchants?
6 Poderão os negociantes vendê-lo? Ou reparti-lo entre os comerciantes?
7 Wilt thou fill his skin with darts, and his head with fish-spears?
7 Você consegue encher de arpões o seu couro, e de lanças de pesca a sua cabeça?
8 Lay thy hand upon him; remember the battle, -do no more!
8 Se puser a mão nele, a luta ficará em sua memória, e nunca mais você tornará a fazê-lo.
9 Lo, hope as to him is belied: is not one cast down even at the sight of him?
9 Esperar vencê-lo é ilusão; só vê-lo já é assustador.
10 None is so bold as to stir him up; and who is he that will stand before me?
10 Ninguém é suficientemente corajoso para despertá-lo. Quem então será capaz de resistir a mim?
11 Who hath first given to me, that I should repay {him}? {Whatsoever is} under the whole heaven is mine.
11 Quem primeiro me deu alguma coisa, que eu lhe deva pagar? Tudo o que há debaixo dos céus me pertence.
12 I will not be silent as to his parts, the story of his power, and the beauty of his structure.
12 "Não deixarei de falar de seus membros, de sua força e de seu porte gracioso.
13 Who can uncover the surface of his garment? who can come within his double jaws?
13 Quem consegue arrancar sua capa externa? Quem se aproximaria dele com uma rédea?
14 Who can open the doors of his face? Round about his teeth is terror.
14 Quem ousa abrir as portas de sua boca, cercada com seus dentes temíveis?
15 The rows of his shields are a pride, shut up together {as with} a close seal.
15 Suas costas possuem fileiras de escudos firmemente unidos;
16 One is so near to another that no air can come between them;
16 cada um está tão junto do outro que nem o ar passa entre eles;
17 They are joined each to its fellow; they stick together, and cannot be sundered.
17 estão tão interligados, que é impossível separá-los.
18 His sneezings flash light, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
18 Seu forte sopro atira lampejos de luz; seus olhos são como os raios da alvorada.
19 Out of his mouth go forth flames; sparks of fire leap out:
19 Tições saem da sua boca; fagulhas de fogo estalam.
20 Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a boiling pot and cauldron.
20 Das suas narinas sai fumaça como de panela fervente sobre fogueira de juncos.
21 His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.
21 Seu sopro faz o carvão pegar fogo, e da sua boca saltam chamas.
22 In his neck lodgeth strength, and terror danceth before him.
22 Tanta força reside em seu pescoço que o terror vai adiante dele.
23 The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are fused upon him, they cannot be moved.
23 As dobras da sua carne são fortemente unidas; são tão firmes que não se movem.
24 His heart is firm as a stone, yea, firm as the nether {millstone}.
24 Seu peito é duro como pedra, rijo como a pedra inferior do moinho.
25 When he raiseth himself up, the mighty are afraid: they are beside themselves with consternation.
25 Quando ele se ergue, os poderosos se apavoram; fogem com medo dos seus golpes.
26 If any reach him with a sword, it cannot hold; neither spear, nor dart, nor harpoon.
26 A espada que o atinge não lhe faz nada, nem a lança nem a flecha nem o dardo.
27 He esteemeth iron as straw, bronze as rotten wood.
27 Ferro ele trata como palha, e bronze como madeira podre.
28 The arrow will not make him flee; slingstones are turned with him into stubble.
28 As flechas não o afugentam, as pedras das fundas são como cisco para ele.
29 Clubs are counted as stubble; he laugheth at the shaking of a javelin.
29 O bastão lhe parece fiapo de palha; o brandir da grande lança o faz rir.
30 His under parts are sharp potsherds: he spreadeth a threshing-sledge upon the mire.
30 Seu ventre é como caco denteado, e deixa rastro na lama como o trilho de debulhar.
31 He maketh the deep to boil like a pot; he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment;
31 Ele faz as profundezas se agitarem como caldeirão fervente, e revolve o mar como pote de ungüento.
32 He maketh the path to shine after him: one would think the deep to be hoary.
32 Deixa atrás de si um rastro cintilante; como se fossem os cabelos brancos do abismo.
33 Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.
33 Nada na terra se equipara a ele; criatura destemida!
34 He beholdeth all high things; he is king over all the proud beasts.
34 Com desdém olha todos os altivos; reina soberano sobre todos os orgulhosos".
