1 Wilt thou draw out the leviathan with the hook, and press down his tongue with a cord?
1 Poderás pescar com anzol o leviatã ou ligarás a sua língua com a corda?
2 Wilt thou put a rush-rope into his nose, and pierce his jaw with a spike?
2 Podes pôr uma corda no seu nariz ou com um espinho furarás a sua queixada?
3 Will he make many supplications unto thee? or will he speak softly unto thee?
3 Porventura, multiplicará as suas suplicações para contigo? Ou brandamente te falará?
4 Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him as a bondman for ever?
4 Fará ele concertos contigo, ou o tomarás tu por escravo para sempre?
5 Wilt thou play with him as with a bird, and wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
5 Brincarás com ele, como se fora um passarinho, ou o prenderás para tuas meninas?
6 Shall partners make traffic of him, will they divide him among merchants?
6 Os teus companheiros farão dele um banquete, ou o repartirão entre os negociantes?
7 Wilt thou fill his skin with darts, and his head with fish-spears?
7 Encherás a sua pele de ganchos, ou a sua cabeça de arpéus de pescadores?
8 Lay thy hand upon him; remember the battle, -do no more!
8 Põe a tua mão sobre ele, lembra-te da peleja e nunca mais tal intentarás.
9 Lo, hope as to him is belied: is not one cast down even at the sight of him?
9 Eis que a sua esperança falhará; porventura, nenhum à sua vista será derribado?
10 None is so bold as to stir him up; and who is he that will stand before me?
10 Ninguém há tão atrevido, que a despertá-lo se atreva; quem, pois, é aquele que ousa erguer-se diante de mim?
11 Who hath first given to me, that I should repay {him}? {Whatsoever is} under the whole heaven is mine.
11 Quem primeiro me deu, para que eu haja de retribuir- lhe? Pois o que está debaixo de todos os céus é meu.
12 I will not be silent as to his parts, the story of his power, and the beauty of his structure.
12 Não me calarei a respeito dos seus membros, nem da relação das suas forças, nem da graça da sua compostura.
13 Who can uncover the surface of his garment? who can come within his double jaws?
13 Quem descobriria a superfície da sua veste? Quem entrará entre as suas queixadas dobradas?
14 Who can open the doors of his face? Round about his teeth is terror.
14 Quem abriria as portas do seu rosto? Pois em roda dos seus dentes está o terror.
15 The rows of his shields are a pride, shut up together {as with} a close seal.
15 As suas fortes escamas são excelentíssimas, cada uma fechada como com selo apertado.
16 One is so near to another that no air can come between them;
16 Uma à outra se chega tão perto, que nem um assopro passa por entre elas.
17 They are joined each to its fellow; they stick together, and cannot be sundered.
17 Umas às outras se ligam; tanto aderem entre si, que não se podem separar.
18 His sneezings flash light, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
18 Cada um dos seus espirros faz resplandecer a luz, e os seus olhos são como as pestanas da alva.
19 Out of his mouth go forth flames; sparks of fire leap out:
19 Da sua boca saem tochas; faíscas de fogo saltam dela.
20 Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a boiling pot and cauldron.
20 Do seu nariz procede fumaça, como de uma panela fervente, ou de uma grande caldeira.
21 His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.
21 O seu hálito faz acender os carvões; e da sua boca sai chama.
22 In his neck lodgeth strength, and terror danceth before him.
22 No seu pescoço pousa a força; perante ele, até a tristeza salta de prazer.
23 The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are fused upon him, they cannot be moved.
23 Os músculos da sua carne estão pegados entre si; cada um está firme nele, e nenhum se move.
24 His heart is firm as a stone, yea, firm as the nether {millstone}.
24 O seu coração é firme como uma pedra e firme como a mó de baixo.
25 When he raiseth himself up, the mighty are afraid: they are beside themselves with consternation.
25 Levantando-se ele, tremem os valentes; em razão dos seus abalos, ficam fora de si.
26 If any reach him with a sword, it cannot hold; neither spear, nor dart, nor harpoon.
26 Se alguém lhe tocar com a espada, essa não poderá penetrar, nem lança, dardo ou flecha.
27 He esteemeth iron as straw, bronze as rotten wood.
27 Ele reputa o ferro palha, e o cobre, pau podre.
28 The arrow will not make him flee; slingstones are turned with him into stubble.
28 A seta o não fará fugir; as pedras das fundas se lhe tornam em restolho.
29 Clubs are counted as stubble; he laugheth at the shaking of a javelin.
29 As pedras atiradas são para ele como arestas, e ri-se do brandir da lança.
30 His under parts are sharp potsherds: he spreadeth a threshing-sledge upon the mire.
30 Debaixo de si tem conchas pontiagudas; estende-se sobre coisas pontiagudas como na lama.
31 He maketh the deep to boil like a pot; he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment;
31 As profundezas faz ferver, como uma panela; torna o mar como quando os unguentos fervem.
32 He maketh the path to shine after him: one would think the deep to be hoary.
32 Após ele alumia o caminho; parece o abismo tornado em brancura de cãs.
33 Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.
33 Na terra, não há coisa que se lhe possa comparar, pois foi feito para estar sem pavor.
34 He beholdeth all high things; he is king over all the proud beasts.
34 Todo o alto vê; é rei sobre todos os filhos de animais altivos.
