1 Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold which they refine;
1 "Existem minas de prata e locais onde se refina ouro.
2 Iron is taken out of the dust, and copper is molten out of the stone.
2 O ferro é extraído da terra, e do minério se funde o cobre.
3 {Man} putteth an end to the darkness, and exploreth to the utmost limit, the stones of darkness and of the shadow of death.
3 O homem dá fim à escuridão; e vasculha os recônditos mais remotos em busca de minério, nas mais escuras trevas.
4 He openeth a shaft far from the inhabitants {of the earth}: forgotten of the foot, they hang suspended; away below men they hover.
4 Longe das moradias ele cava um poço, em local esquecido pelos pés dos homens; longe de todos, ele se pendura e balança.
5 As for the earth, out of it cometh bread, and underneath it is turned up as by fire;
5 A terra, da qual vem o alimento, é revolvida embaixo como que pelo fogo;
6 The stones of it are the place of sapphires, and it hath dust of gold.
6 das suas rochas saem safiras, e seu pó contém pepitas de ouro.
7 It is a path no bird of prey knoweth, and the vulture's eye hath not seen it;
7 Nenhuma ave de rapina conhece aquele caminho oculto, e os olhos de nenhum falcão o viram.
8 The proud beasts have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed over it.
8 Os animais altivos não põem os pés nele, e nenhum leão ronda por ali.
9 {Man} putteth forth his hand upon the flinty rock, he overturneth the mountains by the root.
9 As mãos dos homens atacam a pederneira e transtornam as raízes das montanhas.
10 He cutteth out channels in the rocks, and his eye seeth every precious thing.
10 Fazem túneis através da rocha, e os seus olhos enxergam todos os tesouros dali.
11 He bindeth the streams that they drip not, and what is hidden he bringeth forth to light.
11 Eles vasculham as nascentes dos rios e trazem à luz coisas ocultas.
12 But wisdom, where shall it be found? and where is the place of understanding?
12 "Onde, porém, se poderá achar a sabedoria? Onde habita o entendimento?
13 Man knoweth not the value thereof; and it is not found in the land of the living.
13 O homem não percebe o valor da sabedoria; ela não se encontra na terra dos viventes.
14 The deep saith, It is not in me; and the sea saith, It is not with me.
14 O abismo diz: ‘Em mim não está’; o mar diz: ‘Não está comigo’.
15 Choice gold cannot be given for it, nor silver be weighed for its price.
15 Não pode ser comprada, mesmo com o ouro mais puro, nem se pode pesar o seu preço em prata.
16 It is not set in the balance with gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, and the sapphire.
16 Não pode ser comprada nem com o ouro puro de Ofir, nem com o precioso ônix ou com safiras.
17 Gold and glass cannot be compared to it, nor vessels of fine gold be its exchange.
17 O ouro e o cristal não se comparam com ela, e é impossível tê-la em troca de jóias de ouro.
18 Corals and crystal are no more remembered; yea, the acquisition of wisdom is above rubies.
18 O coral e o jaspe nem merecem menção; o preço da sabedoria ultrapassa o dos rubis.
19 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be compared to it, neither shall it be set in the balance with pure gold.
19 O topázio da Etiópia não se compara com ela; não se compra a sabedoria nem com ouro puro!
20 Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
20 "De onde vem, então, a sabedoria? Onde habita o entendimento?
21 For it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and concealed from the fowl of the heavens.
21 Escondida está dos olhos de toda criatura viva, até das aves dos céus.
22 Destruction and death say, We have heard its report with our ears.
22 A Destruição e a Morte dizem: ‘Aos nossos ouvidos só chegou um leve rumor dela’.
23 God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth its place:
23 Deus conhece o caminho; só ele sabe onde ela habita,
24 For he looketh to the ends of the earth, he seeth under the whole heaven.
24 pois ele enxerga os confins da terra e vê tudo o que há debaixo dos céus.
25 In making a weight for the wind, and meting out the waters by measure,
25 Quando ele determinou a força do vento e estabeleceu a medida exata para as águas,
26 In appointing a statute for the rain, and a way for the thunder's flash:
26 quando fez um decreto para a chuva e o caminho para a tempestade trovejante,
27 Then did he see it, and declare it; he established it, yea, and searched it out;
27 ele olhou para a sabedoria e a avaliou; confirmou-a e a pôs à prova.
28 And unto man he said, Lo, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
28 Disse então ao homem: ‘No temor do Senhor está a sabedoria, e evitar o mal é ter entendimento’ ".
