1 Better is a dry piece of bread, and quietness with it, than a house full of sacrifices with fighting.
1 Melhor é um bocado seco e com ele a tranquilidade do que a casa cheia de vítimas, com contenda.
2 A servant who acts prudently shall rule over a son who causes shame, and he shall have part of the inheritance among the brothers.
2 O servo prudente dominará sobre o filho que procede indignamente; e entre os irmãos repartirá a herança.
3 The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but Jehovah tries the hearts.
3 O crisol é para a prata, e o forno, para o ouro; mas o Senhor prova os corações.
4 An evildoer gives heed to false lips; a liar listens to a tongue of evil desire.
4 O malfazejo atenta para o lábio iníquo; o mentiroso inclina os ouvidos para a língua maligna.
5 Whoever scorns the poor reviles his Maker, he who rejoices at calamity shall not be innocent.
5 O que escarnece do pobre insulta ao que o criou; o que se alegra da calamidade não ficará impune.
6 Grandsons are the crown of old men, and the glory of sons are their fathers.
6 Coroa dos velhos são os filhos dos filhos; e a glória dos filhos são seus pais.
7 An arrogant lip is not fitting for a fool, much less are lying lips for a noble.
7 Não convém ao tolo a fala excelente; quanto menos ao príncipe, o lábio mentiroso!
8 A bribe is a precious stone in the eyes of him who possesses it; everywhere he turns, he is prudent.
8 Pedra preciosa é o presente aos olhos dos que o recebem; para onde quer que se volte, servirá de proveito.
9 He who covers a transgression seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates friends.
9 O que encobre a transgressão busca a amizade, mas o que renova a questão separa os maiores amigos.
10 A reproof enters more into a wise man than a hundred stripes into a fool.
10 Mais profundamente entra a repreensão no prudente do que cem açoites no tolo.
11 A rebel seeks evil, so a cruel messenger is sent against him.
11 Na verdade, o rebelde não busca senão o mal, mas mensageiro cruel se enviará contra ele.
12 Let a bear bereaved of her cubs meet a man, rather than a fool in his foolishness.
12 Encontre-se com o homem a ursa à qual roubaram os filhos, mas não o louco na sua estultícia.
13 Whoever rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
13 Quanto àquele que torna mal por bem, não se apartará o mal da sua casa.
14 The beginning of strife is like the releasing of water, therefore leave off fighting before it breaks out.
14 Como o soltar as águas, é o princípio da contenda; deixa por isso a porfia, antes que sejas envolvido.
15 He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just, even both of them are disgusting to Jehovah.
15 O que justifica o ímpio e o que condena o justo abomináveis são para o Senhor , tanto um como o outro.
16 Why is there hire in a fool's hand to get wisdom, and there is no heart for it ?
16 De que serviria o preço na mão do tolo para comprar a sabedoria, visto que não tem entendimento?
17 A friend loves at every time, but a brother is born for the time of trouble.
17 Em todo o tempo ama o amigo; e na angústia nasce o irmão.
18 A man lacking heart strikes the palm, he pledges in the presence of his friend.
18 O homem falto de entendimento dá a mão, ficando por fiador do seu companheiro.
19 He loving strife loves rebellion, he who exalts his door seeks shattering.
19 O que ama a contenda ama a transgressão; o que alça a sua porta busca a ruína.
20 One crooked of heart does not find good, and he who is perverse in his tongue falls into evil.
20 O perverso de coração nunca achará o bem; e o que tem a língua dobre virá a cair no mal.
21 He who fathers a fool has sorrow for it; yea, the father of a fool has no joy.
21 O que gera um tolo, para sua tristeza o faz; e o pai do insensato não se alegrará.
22 A cheerful heart makes good healing, but a stricken spirit dries the bone.
22 O coração alegre serve de bom remédio, mas o espírito abatido virá a secar os ossos.
23 The wicked takes a bribe out of the bosom to pervert the paths of justice.
23 O ímpio tira o presente do seio para perverter as veredas da justiça.
24 With the face of the wise is wisdom, but a fool's eyes are in the ends of the earth.
24 No rosto do sábio se vê a sabedoria, mas os olhos do louco estão nas extremidades da terra.
25 A foolish son is a vexation to his father, and bitterness to her who bore him.
25 O filho insensato é tristeza para seu pai e amargura para quem o deu à luz.
26 And it is not good to punish the just, to strike leaders for uprightness.
26 Não é bom também punir o justo, nem ferirem os príncipes ao que age justamente.
27 He who restrains his words knows knowledge, and one rare of spirit is a man of understanding.
27 Retém as suas palavras o que possui o conhecimento, e o homem de entendimento é de precioso espírito.
28 Even a fool who is silent is counted wise, he who shuts his lips is counted as understanding.
28 Até o tolo, quando se cala, será reputado por sábio; e o que cerrar os seus lábios, por sábio.
