1 And Job answered and said:
1 Então Jó respondeu:
2 Oh that my vexation were carefully weighed, and my ruin lifted in the balances together!
2 "Se tão-somente pudessem pesar a minha aflição e pôr na balança a minha desgraça!
3 For now it would be heavier than the sand of the seas; on account of this my words have been rash.
3 Veriam que o seu peso é maior que o da areia dos mares. Por isso as minhas palavras são tão impetuosas.
4 For the arrows of the Almighty are within me; their fury is drinking my spirit; the terrors of God are set against me.
4 As flechas do Todo-poderoso estão cravadas em mim, e o meu espírito suga delas o veneno; os terrores de Deus estão posicionados contra mim.
5 Does the wild ass bray over tender grass? Or does the ox low over his fodder?
5 Zurra o jumento selvagem, se tiver capim? Muge o boi, se tiver forragem?
6 Are tasteless things eaten without salt? Or is there taste in the slime of an egg?
6 Come-se sem sal uma comida insípida? E a clara do ovo, tem algum sabor?
7 My soul refuses to touch them; they are sickening food to me.
7 Recuso-me a tocar nisso; esse tipo de comida causa-me repugnância.
8 Who will give it that my desire might come, and God would grant my longing;
8 "Se tão-somente fosse atendido o meu pedido, se Deus me concedesse o meu desejo,
9 and God would be willing and crush me; let loose His hand and cut me off?
9 se Deus se dispusesse a esmagar-me, a soltar a mão protetora e eliminar-me!
10 And it is yet my comfort; and I would exult in pain not spared; for I have not hidden the words of the Holy One.
10 Pois eu ainda teria o consolo, minha alegria em meio à dor implacável, de não ter negado as palavras do Santo.
11 What is my strength that I should wait? And what is my end that I should prolong my life?
11 "Que esperança posso ter, se já não tenho forças? Como posso ter paciência, se não tenho futuro?
12 Is my strength the strength of stones? Or is my flesh bronze?
12 Acaso tenho a força da pedra? Acaso a minha carne é de bronze?
13 Is not my help within me? And is wisdom driven from me?
13 Haverá poder que me ajude, agora que os meus recursos se foram?
14 To the faint, mercy is due from his friend; for he forsakes the fear of the Almighty.
14 "Um homem desesperado deve receber a compaixão de seus amigos, muito embora ele tenha abandonado o temor do Todo-poderoso.
15 My brothers have dealt deceitfully, like the torrent; like the streams of torrents, they vanish;
15 Mas os meus irmãos enganaram-me como riachos temporários, como os riachos que transbordam
16 those darkened from ice, in which the snow hides itself.
16 quando o degelo os torna turvos e a neve que se derrete os faz encher,
17 At the time they are warmed, they are cut off; when it is hot, they vanish from their place.
17 mas que param de fluir no tempo da seca, e no calor desaparecem dos seus leitos.
18 The paths of their way bend; they go to nothing, and are lost.
18 As caravanas se desviam de suas rotas; sobem para lugares desertos e perecem.
19 The troops of Tema looked; the travelers of Sheba hoped for them;
19 Procuram água as caravanas de Temá, olham esperançosos os mercadores de Sabá.
20 they were ashamed because they had hoped; they came there, and were ashamed.
20 Ficam tristes, porque estavam confiantes; lá chegaram tão-somente para sofrer decepção.
21 Surely now you have become like it; you see my dismay, and are afraid.
21 Pois agora vocês de nada me valeram; contemplam minha temível situação, e se enchem de medo.
22 Did I indeed say, Give to me? Or, offer a bribe for me from your wealth?
22 Alguma vez lhes pedi que me dessem alguma coisa? Ou que da sua riqueza pagassem resgate por mim?
23 Or, Deliver me from a foe's hand? Or, Redeem me from the oppressors hand?
23 Ou que me livrassem das mãos do inimigo? Ou que me libertassem das garras de quem me oprime?
24 Teach me, and I will be silent; and cause me to understand in what I have erred.
24 "Ensinem-me, e eu me calarei; mostrem-me onde errei.
25 Right words are powerful, but what does your arguing argue?
25 Como doem as palavras verdadeiras! Mas o que provam os argumentos de vocês?
26 Do you intend to criticize words, and the speeches of one who is hopeless, that are as wind?
26 Vocês pretendem corrigir o que digo e tratar como vento as palavras de um homem desesperado?
27 Yea, you cause even an orphan to fall; and you bargain over your friend.
27 Vocês seriam capazes de pôr em sorteio o órfão e de vender um amigo por uma bagatela!
28 And now, please look on me. For if I lie, it is before your face.
28 "Mas agora, tenham a bondade de olhar para mim. Será que eu mentiria na frente de vocês?
29 Turn back, I beseech you; let there be no wrong. Yea, return again, for my righteousness is in it.
29 Reconsiderem a questão, não sejam injustos; tornem a analisá-la, pois a minha integridade está em jogo.
30 Is there wrong in my tongue? Cannot my palate discern desirable things?
30 Há alguma iniqüidade em meus lábios? Será que a minha boca não consegue discernir a maldade?
