1 “Call now, is there anyone answering you? And to which of the holy ones will you turn?
1 Chama agora; há alguém que te responda? E para qual dos santos te virarás?
2 For vexation will slay the fool, and jealousy will kill the simple.
2 Porque a ira destrói o louco; e o zelo mata o tolo.
3 I have seen a fool taking root, but suddenly I cursed his dwelling.
3 Bem vi eu o louco lançar raízes; porém logo amaldiçoei a sua habitação.
4 His children are far from deliverance, and they are crushed in the gate, and there is no deliverer—
4 Seus filhos estão longe da salvação; e são despedaçados às portas, e não há quem os livre.
5 whose harvest the hungry eats, and he takes it ⌞from behind⌟ the thorns; and the thirsty pants after their wealth.
5 A sua messe, o faminto a devora, e até dentre os espinhos a tira; e o salteador traga a sua fazenda.
6 Indeed, mischief does not come from the dust, and trouble does not sprout from the earth.
6 Porque do pó não procede a aflição, nem da terra brota o trabalho.
7 But a human being is born to trouble, and ⌞they soar aloft⌟ like ⌞sparks⌟.
7 Mas o homem nasce para a tribulação, como as faíscas se levantam para voar.
8 “But I myself will seek God, and to God I would commit my cause.
8 Porém eu buscaria a Deus; e a ele entregaria a minha causa.
9 He is doing great and ⌞unsearchable⌟ things, marvelous things ⌞without number⌟—
9 Ele faz coisas grandes e inescrutáveis, e maravilhas sem número.
10 the one who is giving rain on the ⌞surface of⌟ the earth and is sending water on the ⌞surface of⌟ the fields,
10 Ele dá a chuva sobre a terra, e envia águas sobre os campos.
11 to set the lowly on high, and those mourning are lifted to safety.
11 Para pôr aos abatidos num lugar alto; e para que os enlutados se exaltem na salvação.
12 He is frustrating the devices of the crafty, and their hands do not achieve success.
12 Ele aniquila as imaginações dos astutos, para que as suas mãos não possam levar coisa alguma a efeito.
13 He is capturing the wise in their craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are rushed.
13 Ele apanha os sábios na sua própria astúcia; e o conselho dos perversos se precipita.
14 In the daytime they meet with darkness, and they grope at noon as in the night.
14 Eles de dia encontram as trevas; e ao meio-dia andam às apalpadelas como de noite.
15 And he saves from the sword of their mouth, ⌞even⌟ the poor from the hand of the strong.
15 Porém ao necessitado livra da espada, e da boca deles, e da mão do forte.
16 So there is hope for the powerless, and wickedness shuts its mouth.
16 Assim há esperança para o pobre; e a iniqüidade tapa a sua boca.
17 “Look, happy is the human being whom God reproves; and you must not despise the discipline of Shaddai,
17 Eis que bem-aventurado é o homem a quem Deus repreende; não desprezes, pois, a correção do Todo-Poderoso.
18 for he himself wounds, but he binds up; he strikes, but his hands heal.
18 Porque ele faz a chaga, e ele mesmo a liga; ele fere, e as suas mãos curam.
19 ⌞From⌟ six troubles he will deliver you, and in seven evil shall not touch you.
19 Em seis angústias te livrará; e na sétima o mal não te tocará.
20 In famine he will redeem you from death, and in war from the ⌞power of⌟ the sword.
20 Na fome te livrará da morte; e na guerra, da violência da espada.
21 From the scourge of the tongue you shall be hidden, and you shall not be afraid of destruction when it comes.
21 Do açoite da língua estarás encoberto; e não temerás a assolação, quando vier.
22 At destruction and famine you shall laugh, and you shall not fear the wild animals of the earth.
22 Da assolação e da fome te rirás, e os animais da terra não temerás.
23 For your covenant will be with the stones of the field, and the wild animals of the field will be at peace with you.
23 Porque até com as pedras do campo terás o teu acordo, e as feras do campo serão pacíficas contigo.
24 And you shall know that your tent is safe, and you will inspect your fold, and you shall not be missing anything.
24 E saberás que a tua tenda está em paz; e visitarás a tua habitação, e não pecarás.
25 And you shall know that your offspring are many, and your descendants like the vegetation of the earth.
25 Também saberás que se multiplicará a tua descendência e a tua posteridade como a erva da terra,
26 You shall come in maturity to the grave, as the raising up of a stack of sheaves in its season.
26 Na velhice irás à sepultura, como se recolhe o feixe de trigo a seu tempo.
27 “Look, we have searched this out—it is true; hear it and know it ⌞yourself⌟.”
27 Eis que isto já o havemos inquirido, e assim é; ouve-o, e medita nisso para teu bem.
