1 “I made a covenant with my eyes, so how could I look closely upon a virgin?
1 Fiz aliança com os meus olhos; como, pois, os fixaria numa virgem?
2 And what is the portion of God from above or the heritage of Shaddai from on high?
2 Que porção teria eu do Deus lá de cima, ou que herança do TodoPoderoso desde as alturas?
3 Is not disaster for the evil one and ruin for the workers of mischief?
3 Porventura não é a perdição para o perverso, o desastre para os que praticam iniqüidade?
4 Does he not see my ways and count all my steps?
4 Ou não vê ele os meus caminhos, e não conta todos os meus passos?
5 “If I have walked with falseness, and my foot has hastened to deceit,
5 Se andei com falsidade, e se o meu pé se apressou para o engano
6 let him weigh me in the balance of justice, and let God know my blamelessness.
6 (Pese-me em balanças fiéis, e saberá Deus a minha sinceridade),
7 If my steps have turned aside from the way, and my heart has walked after my eyes, and my hand has clung to a spot,
7 Se os meus passos se desviaram do caminho, e se o meu coração segue os meus olhos, e se às minhas mãos se apegou qualquer coisa,
8 let me sow, and let another eat, and let my crops be rooted out.
8 Então semeie eu e outro coma, e seja a minha descendência arrancada até à raiz.
9 “If my heart has been enticed by a woman, and at my neighbor’s doorway I have lain in wait,
9 Se o meu coração se deixou seduzir por uma mulher, ou se eu armei traições à porta do meu próximo,
10 let my wife grind for another, and let other men kneel over her,
10 Então moa minha mulher para outro, e outros se encurvem sobre ela,
11 for that is a shameful act, and that is ⌞a criminal offense⌟.
11 Porque é uma infâmia, e é delito pertencente aos juízes.
12 Indeed, that is a fire that will consume up to Abaddon, and it would uproot all my crop.
12 Porque é fogo que consome até à perdição, e desarraigaria toda a minha renda.
13 “If I have rejected my male or female slave’s case when their complaint was against me,
13 Se desprezei o direito do meu servo ou da minha serva, quando eles contendiam comigo;
14 then what shall I do when God rises up? And when he enquires, how shall I answer him?
14 Então que faria eu quando Deus se levantasse? E, inquirindo a causa, que lhe responderia?
15 Did not he who made me in the womb make them? And did not one fashion us in the womb?
15 Aquele que me formou no ventre não o fez também a ele? Ou não nos formou do mesmo modo na madre?
16 “If I have withheld the desire of the poor from them, or I have caused the widow’s eyes to fail,
16 Se retive o que os pobres desejavam, ou fiz desfalecer os olhos da viúva,
17 or I have eaten my morsel ⌞alone⌟, and the orphan has not eaten from it
17 Ou se, sozinho comi o meu bocado, e o órfão não comeu dele
18 (for from my childhood he ⌞grew up with⌟ me like a father, and from my mother’s womb I guided her),
18 (Porque desde a minha mocidade cresceu comigo como com seu pai, e fui o guia da viúva desde o ventre de minha mãe),
19 if I have seen the one who perishes because of no clothing or that there is no covering for the poor,
19 Se alguém vi perecer por falta de roupa, e ao necessitado por não ter coberta,
20 if his loins have not blessed me, or by means of my sheep’s fleece he has warmed himself,
20 Se os seus lombos não me abençoaram, se ele não se aquentava com as peles dos meus cordeiros,
21 if I have raised my hand against an orphan because I saw my supporters at the gate,
21 Se eu levantei a minha mão contra o órfão, porquanto na porta via a minha ajuda,
22 then let my shoulder blade fall from my shoulder, and let my arm be broken from its socket.
22 Então caia do ombro a minha espádua, e separe-se o meu braço do osso.
23 Indeed, the disaster from God was a dread for me, and ⌞I was powerless⌟ because of his majesty.
23 Porque o castigo de Deus era para mim um assombro, e eu não podia suportar a sua grandeza.
24 “If I have made gold my trust, or I have called fine gold my security,
24 Se no ouro pus a minha esperança, ou disse ao ouro fino: Tu és a minha confiança;
25 if I have rejoiced because my wealth was great or because my hand found a fortune,
25 Se me alegrei de que era muita a minha riqueza, e de que a minha mão tinha alcançado muito;
26 if I looked at the sun when it shone or at the moon moving in splendor,
26 Se olhei para o sol, quando resplandecia, ou para a lua, caminhando gloriosa,
27 and ⌞I was secretly enticed⌟, and ⌞my hand threw them a kiss⌟,
27 E o meu coração se deixou enganar em oculto, e a minha boca beijou a minha mão,
28 this also is an iniquity to be judged, for I have deceived God above.
28 Também isto seria delito à punição de juízes; pois assim negaria a Deus que está lá em cima.
29 “If I have rejoiced at the ruin of the one who hated me or have exulted when evil overtook him—
29 Se me alegrei da desgraça do que me tem ódio, e se exultei quando o mal o atingiu
30 no, I have not allowed my mouth to sin, to ask his life with a curse.
30 (Também não deixei pecar a minha boca, desejando a sua morte com maldição);
31 ⌞Have the people of my tent not said⌟, ‘⌞O that⌟ someone had not been satisfied with his meat’?
31 Se a gente da minha tenda não disse: Ah! quem nos dará da sua carne? Nunca nos fartaríamos dela.
32 An alien has not lodged in the street; I have opened my door to the traveler.
32 O estrangeiro não passava a noite na rua; as minhas portas abria ao viandante.
33 ⌞Have I concealed⌟ my transgressions as other human beings to hide my iniquity in my bosom
33 Se, como Adão, encobri as minhas transgressões, ocultando o meu delito no meu seio;
34 because I dreaded the great multitude, and the contempt of clans terrified me, so that I kept quiet, I did not go out of the doorway?
34 Porque eu temia a grande multidão, e o desprezo das famílias me apavorava, e eu me calei, e não saí da porta;
35 ⌞O that⌟ ⌞I had⌟ someone hearing me! Here is my signature; let Shaddai answer me! ⌞As for⌟ the written communication that ⌞my adversary⌟ has written,
35 Ah! quem me dera um que me ouvisse! Eis que o meu desejo é que o Todo-Poderoso me responda, e que o meu adversário escreva um livro.
36 I would ⌞surely⌟ carry it on my shoulder; I would bind it on me like a crown.
36 Por certo que o levaria sobre o meu ombro, sobre mim o ataria por coroa.
37 I would give him an account of my steps; I would approach him like a noble.
37 O número dos meus passos lhe mostraria; como príncipe me chegaria a ele.
38 If my land has cried out against me, and its furrows have wept together,
38 Se a minha terra clamar contra mim, e se os seus sulcos juntamente chorarem,
39 if I have eaten its yield without payment, or I have caused the breath of its owners to die,
39 Se comi os seus frutos sem dinheiro, e sufoquei a alma dos seus donos,
40 let thorns grow in place of wheat and noxious weeds in place of barley.” The words of Job are ended.
40 Por trigo me produza cardos, e por cevada joio. Acabaram-se as palavras de Jó.
