1 Then Zophar the Naamathite answered and said,
1 Então Zofar, o naamatita, tomou a palavra e disse:
2 “Therefore my disquieting thoughts bring me back ⌞for the sake of⌟ my inward excitement.
2 “Visto que os meus pensamentos me impõem resposta, eu me apresso.
3 I hear discipline that insults me, and a spirit beyond my understanding answers me.
3 Eu ouvi a repreensão, que me envergonha, mas o meu espírito me obriga a responder segundo o meu entendimento.”
4 “Did you know this from of old, since the setting of the human being on earth,
4 “Será que você não sabe que desde todos os tempos, desde que o ser humano foi posto sobre a terra,
5 that the rejoicing of the wicked is ⌞short⌟, and the joy of the godless ⌞lasts only a moment⌟?
5 o júbilo dos ímpios é breve, e a alegria dos maus é momentânea?
6 Even though his stature mounts up to the heaven, and his head reaches to the clouds,
6 Ainda que a sua presunção chegue aos céus, e a sua cabeça atinja as nuvens,
7 he will perish forever like his dung; those who have seen him will say, ‘Where is he?’
7 como o seu próprio esterco, ele apodrecerá para sempre, e os que o conheceram perguntarão: ‘Onde está ele?’
8 He will fly away like a dream, and they will not find him, and he will be chased away like a vision of the night.
8 Voará como um sonho e não será encontrado; será afugentado como uma visão da noite.
9 The eye that saw him ⌞will not see him again⌟, and his place will no longer behold him.
9 Os olhos que o viram não o verão mais, e o lugar onde ele estava não o verá outra vez.
10 His children will seek favors from the poor, and his hands will return his wealth.
10 Os seus filhos procurarão aplacar os pobres, e com as suas mãos ele lhes devolverá os seus bens.
11 His bones were full of his vigor, but it will lie down with him on the dust.
11 Ainda que os seus ossos estejam cheios do vigor da sua juventude, esse vigor se deitará com ele no pó.”
12 “Though wickedness tastes sweet in his mouth, and he hides it under his tongue,
12 “Ainda que o mal seja doce na sua boca, e ele o esconda debaixo da língua,
13 though he spares it and does not let it go and holds it back in the midst of his palate,
13 e o saboreie, e não o queira largar, mas o retenha em sua boca,
14 in his bowels his food is turned, the venom of horned vipers is ⌞within him⌟.
14 o fato é que a sua comida se transformará no seu estômago; será veneno de cobra no seu interior.
15 He swallows riches, but he vomits them up; God drives them out from his stomach.
15 Engoliu riquezas, mas terá de vomitá-las; Deus o obrigará a lançá-las de seu ventre.
16 He will suck the poison of horned vipers; the viper’s tongue will kill him.
16 Sugou veneno de cobra; a mordedura da víbora o matará.
17 ⌞He will not enjoy the streams⌟, the torrents of honey and curds.
17 Não se deliciará com a vista dos ribeiros e dos rios transbordantes de mel e de leite.
18 Returning the products of his toil, he will not swallow; according to the profit of his trade, ⌞he will not enjoy⌟,
18 Devolverá o fruto do seu trabalho e não o engolirá; do lucro dos seus negócios não tirará prazer nenhum.
19 for he has oppressed; he has abandoned the poor; he has seized a house but did not build it.
19 Porque oprimiu e desamparou os pobres, roubou casas que não construiu.
20 Because he has not known satisfaction in his stomach, ⌞he lets nothing escape that he desires⌟.
20 Por não haver limites à sua cobiça, não chegará a salvar as coisas por ele desejadas.
21 ⌞There is nothing left after he has eaten⌟; therefore his prosperity will not endure.
21 Nada escapou à sua cobiça insaciável; por isso a sua prosperidade não durará.
22 In the fullness of his excess ⌞he will be in distress⌟; all of misery’s power will come upon him.
22 Na plenitude da sua riqueza, ficará angustiado; toda a força da miséria virá sobre ele.”
23 ⌞When his stomach fills up⌟, God will send ⌞his burning anger⌟ upon him, and he will let it rain down upon him as his food.
23 “Para encher-lhe a barriga, Deus mandará sobre ele o furor da sua ira, que, por alimento, mandará chover sobre ele.
24 “He will flee from an iron weapon, but an arrow of bronze will pierce him.
24 Se fugir das armas de ferro, uma flecha de bronze o atravessará.
25 He draws it forth, and it comes out from his body, and the glittering point comes from his gall-bladder; terrors come upon him.
25 Ele arranca a flecha das suas costas, e esta vem brilhando com o seu fel; e o pavor tomará conta dele.
26 ⌞Total darkness⌟ is hidden for his treasures; ⌞an unfanned fire⌟ will devour him; the remnant ⌞will be consumed⌟ in his tent.
26 Todas as calamidades serão reservadas contra os seus tesouros; um fogo não aceso por mãos humanas o consumirá e devorará o que ficar na sua tenda.”
27 The heavens will reveal his guilt, and the earth will rise up against him.
27 “Os céus manifestarão a sua iniquidade; e a terra se levantará contra ele.
28 The products of his house will be carried away like gushing waters on the day of his wrath.
28 As riquezas de sua casa serão levadas embora; como água serão derramadas no dia da ira de Deus.
29 This is a wicked human being’s portion from God and the inheritance of his decree from God.”
29 Esta é, da parte de Deus, a sorte do ímpio; esta é a herança decretada por Deus.”
