1 After this, opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.
1 Depois disso Jó abriu a boca e amaldiçoou o dia do seu nascimento,
2 So then Job began, and said:
2 dizendo:
3 Perish, the day wherein I was born, and the night it was said, Lo! a manchild!
3 "Pereça o dia do meu nascimento e a noite em que se disse: ‘Nasceu um menino! ’
4 That day, be it darkness,Let not God enquire after it from above, May there shine upon it no clear beam:
4 Transforme-se aquele dia em trevas, e Deus, lá do alto, não se importe com ele; não resplandeça a luz sobre ele.
5 Let darkness and death-shade buy it back, May there settle down upon it a cloud, Let a days dark eclipse cause it terror:
5 Chamem-no de volta as trevas e a mais densa escuridão; coloque-se uma nuvem sobre ele e o negrume aterrorize a sua luz.
6 That night, darkness take it,May it not rejoice among the days of the year, Into the number of months, let it not enter.
6 Apoderem-se daquela noite densas trevas! Não seja ela incluída entre os dias do ano, nem faça parte de nenhum dos meses.
7 Lo! that night, be it barren, Let no joyous shouting enter therein:
7 Seja aquela noite estéril, e nela não se ouçam brados de alegria.
8 Let day-cursers denounce it, Those skilled in rousing the dragon of the sky:
8 Amaldiçoem aquele dia os que amaldiçoam os dias e são capazes de atiçar o Leviatã.
9 Darkened be the stars of its twilight,Let it wait for light, and there be none, neither let it see the eyelashes of the dawn:
9 Fiquem escuras as suas estrelas matutinas, e espere ele em vão pela luz do sol e não veja os primeiros raios da alvorada,
10 Because it closed not the doors of the womb wherein I was, and so hid trouble from mine eyes.
10 pois não fechou as portas do ventre materno para evitar que eu contemplasse males.
11 Wherefore, in the womb, did I not die? From the womb, come forth and cease to breathe?
11 "Por que não morri ao nascer, e não pereci quando saí do ventre?
12 For what reason, were there prepared for meknees? and whybreasts, that I might suck?
12 Por que houve joelhos para me receberem e seios para me amamentarem?
13 Surely, at once, had I lain down, and been quiet, I had fallen asleep, then, had I been at rest:
13 Agora eu bem poderia estar deitado em paz e achar repouso
14 With kings, and counselors of the earth, who had built them pyramids:
14 junto aos reis e conselheiros da terra, que construíram para si lugares que agora jazem em ruínas,
15 Or with rulers possessing, gold,Who had filled their houses with silver:
15 com governantes que possuíam ouro, que enchiam suas casas de prata.
16 Or that, like an untimely birth hidden away, I had not come into being, like infants that never saw light:
16 Por que não me sepultaram como criança abortada, como um bebê que nunca viu a luz do dia?
17 There, the lawless, cease from raging, and there the toil-worn are at rest:
17 Ali os ímpios já não se agitam, e ali os cansados permanecem em repouso;
18 At once are prisoners at peace, they hear not the voice of a driver:
18 os prisioneiros também desfrutam sossego, já não ouvem mais os gritos do feitor de escravos.
19 Small and great, there, they are, and, the slave, is free from his master.
19 Os simples e os poderosos ali estão, e o escravo está livre de seu senhor.
20 Wherefore give, to the wretched, light? Or, life, to the embittered in soul?
20 "Por que se dá luz aos infelizes, e vida aos de alma amargurada,
21 Who long for death, and it is not, And have digged for it, beyond hid treasures:
21 aos que anseiam pela morte, e esta não vem, e a procuram mais do que a um tesouro oculto,
22 Who rejoice unto exultation, Are glad, when they can find the grave:
22 aos que se enchem de alegria e exultam quando vão para a sepultura?
23 To a man, whose way is concealed, And GOD hath straitly enclosed him?
23 Por que se dá vida àquele cujo caminho é oculto, e a quem Deus fechou as saídas?
24 For, in the face of my food, my sighing, cometh in, and, poured out like the water, are my groans:
24 Pois me vêm suspiros em vez de comida; meus gemidos transbordam como água.
25 For, a dread, I dreaded, and it hath come upon me, and, that from which I shrank, hath overtaken me.
25 O que eu temia veio sobre mim; o que eu receava me aconteceu.
26 I was not careless, nor was I secure, nor had I settled down,when there cameconsternation!
26 Não tenho paz, nem tranqüilidade, nem descanso; somente inquietação".
