1 Then Yahweh responded to Job, out of a storm, and said:
1 Então, do meio de um redemoinho, o S enhor respondeu a Jó:
2 Who is it that darkeneth counsel, by words, without knowledge?
2 “Quem é esse que questiona minha sabedoria com palavras tão ignorantes?
3 Gird, I pray theelike a strong manthy loins, that I may ask thee, and inform thou me:
3 Prepare-se como um guerreiro, pois lhe farei algumas perguntas, e você me responderá.
4 Where wast thou, when I founded the earth? Tell, if thou knowest understanding!
4 “Onde você estava quando eu lancei os alicerces do mundo? Diga-me, já que sabe tanto.
5 Who set the measurements thereof, if thou knowest? Or who stretched out over it a line?
5 Quem definiu suas dimensões e estendeu a linha de medir? Vamos, você deve saber.
6 Whereon were the pedestals thereof sunk? Or who laid the corner stone thereof;
6 O que sustenta seus alicerces e quem lançou sua pedra angular,
7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
7 enquanto as estrelas da manhã cantavam juntas, e os anjos
8 Or shut in, with double doors, the sea, when, bursting out of the womb, it came forth;
8 “Quem estabeleceu os limites do mar quando do ventre ele brotou,
9 When I put a cloud as the garment thereof, and a thick cloud as the swaddling-band thereof;
9 quando eu o vesti com nuvens e o envolvi em escuridão profunda?
10 And brake off for it my boundary, and fixed a bar and double doors;
10 Pois o contive atrás de portas com trancas, para delimitar seus litorais.
11 And saidHitherto, shalt thou come, and no further,and, here, shalt thou set a limit to the majesty of thy waves?
11 Disse: ‘Daqui não pode passar; aqui suas ondas orgulhosas devem parar!’.
12 Since thy days hast thou commanded the morning? or caused the dawn to know its place;
12 “Você alguma vez deu ordem para que a manhã aparecesse e fez o amanhecer se levantar no leste?
13 That it might lay hold of the wings of the earth, and the lawless be shaken out of it?
13 Fez a luz do dia se espalhar até os confins da terra, para acabar com a perversidade da noite?
14 It transformeth itself like the clay of a seal, so that things stand forth like one arrayed;
14 À medida que a luz se aproxima, a terra toma forma, como o barro sob um anel de selar; como uma veste, seus contornos se mostram.
15 That their light may be withdrawn from the lawless, and, the lofty arm, be shivered.
15 A luz incomoda os perversos e detém o braço levantado para cometer violência.
16 Hast thou entered as far as the springs of the sea? Or, through the secret recesses of the resounding deep, hast thou wandered?
16 “Você explorou as nascentes do mar? Percorreu suas profundezas?
17 Have the gates of death been disclosed to thee? And, the gates of the death-shade, couldst thou descry?
17 Sabe onde ficam as portas da morte? Viu as portas da escuridão absoluta?
18 Hast thou well considered, even the breadths of the earth? Tellif thou knowest it all!
18 Tem ideia da extensão da terra? Responda-me, se é que você sabe!
19 Where then is the way, the light shall abide? And, the darkness, where then is its place?
19 “De onde vem a luz, e para onde vai a escuridão?
20 That thou mayest conduct it unto the bound thereof, and that thou mayest perceive the paths to its house.
20 Você é capaz de levar cada uma a seu lugar? Sabe como chegar lá?
21 Thou knowest, for, then, hadst thou been born! And, in number, thy days are many!
21 Claro que sabe de tudo isso! Afinal, já havia nascido antes de tudo ser criado e tem muita experiência!
22 Hast thou entered into the treasuries of the snow? And, the treasuries of the hail, couldst thou see?
22 “Você alguma vez visitou os depósitos de neve ou viu onde fica guardado o granizo?
23 Which I have reserved for a time of distress, for the day of conflict and of war?
23 Eu os reservo como armas para os tempos de angústia, para o dia de batalha e guerra.
24 Where then is the way the lightning is parted? The east wind spreadeth itself abroad over the earth.
24 Onde os relâmpagos se dividem? De onde se dispersa o vento leste?
25 Who hath clovenfor the torrenta channel? Or a way for the lightning of thunders;
25 “Quem abriu um canal para as chuvas torrenciais? Quem definiu o percurso dos relâmpagos?
26 To give rain over the no-mans land, the desert, where no son of earth is;
26 Quem faz a chuva cair sobre a terra árida, no deserto, onde ninguém habita?
27 To satisfy the wild and the wilderness, to cause to spring forth the meadow of young grass?
27 Quem envia a chuva para saciar a terra seca e fazer brotar o capim novo?
28 Hath the rain a father? Or who hath begotten the drops of dew?
28 “Acaso a chuva tem pai? Quem gera o orvalho?
29 Out of whose womb, came forth the ice? And, the hoar-frost of the heavens, who hath given it birth?
29 Quem é a mãe do gelo? Quem dá à luz a geada que vem do céu?
30 Like a stone, are the waters congealed, and, the face of the roaring deep, becometh firm!
30 Pois a água se transforma em gelo, duro como pedra, e a superfície das águas profundas se congela.
31 Canst thou bind the fetters of the Pleiades? Or, the bands of Orion, canst thou unloose?
31 “Você é capaz de controlar as estrelas e amarrar o grupo das Plêiades ou afrouxar as cordas do Órion?
32 Canst thou bring forth the signs of the Zodiac each in its season? Or, the Bear and her Young, canst thou lead?
32 Pode fazer aparecer no tempo exato as constelações, ou guiar a Ursa e seus filhotes pelo céu?
33 Knowest thou, the statutes of the heavens? Or didst thou appoint his dominion over the earth?
33 Conhece as leis do universo? Pode usá-las para governar a terra?
34 Canst thou lift up, to the thick cloud, thy voice, and the overflow of waters cover thee?
34 “Pode gritar para as nuvens e fazer chover?
35 Canst thou send forth the lightnings, so that they go, and say to thee, Behold us?
35 Pode fazer os raios aparecerem e lhes dizer onde cair?
36 Who hath putinto cloud-formswisdom? Or who hath givento the meteorunderstanding?
36 Quem dá intuição ao coração e instinto à mente?
37 Who can count the thin clouds, in wisdom? And, the bottles of the heavens, who can empty out;
37 Quem é sábio o suficiente para contar todas as nuvens? Quem pode inclinar as vasilhas de água do céu,
38 When the dust is cast into a clod, and the lumps are bound together?
38 quando a terra está seca e o solo se endureceu em torrões?
39 Wilt thou huntfor the Lionessprey? Or, the craving of the Strong Lion, wilt thou satisfy;
39 “Acaso você pode caçar a presa para a leoa e saciar a fome dos leõezinhos,
40 When they settle down in dens, abide in covert, for lying in wait?
40 enquanto eles se agacham na toca ou ficam à espreita no mato?
41 Who prepareth for the Raven his nourishment,when his young onesunto GODcry out,
41 Quem providencia alimento para os corvos quando seus filhotes clamam a Deus e, famintos, andam de um lado para o outro?”
