1 Then Yahweh responded to Job, out of a storm, and said:
1 Então o Senhor respondeu a Jó do meio da tempestade. Disse ele:
2 Who is it that darkeneth counsel, by words, without knowledge?
2 "Quem é esse que obscurece o meu conselho com palavras sem conhecimento?
3 Gird, I pray theelike a strong manthy loins, that I may ask thee, and inform thou me:
3 Prepare-se como simples homem; vou fazer-lhe perguntas, e você me responderá.
4 Where wast thou, when I founded the earth? Tell, if thou knowest understanding!
4 "Onde você estava quando lancei os alicerces da terra? Responda-me, se é que você sabe tanto.
5 Who set the measurements thereof, if thou knowest? Or who stretched out over it a line?
5 Quem marcou os limites das suas dimensões? Vai ver que você sabe! E quem estendeu sobre ela a linha de medir?
6 Whereon were the pedestals thereof sunk? Or who laid the corner stone thereof;
6 E as suas bases, sobre o que foram postas? E quem colocou sua pedra de esquina,
7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
7 enquanto as estrelas matutinas juntas cantavam e todos os anjos se regozijavam?
8 Or shut in, with double doors, the sea, when, bursting out of the womb, it came forth;
8 "Quem represou o mar pondo-lhe portas, quando ele irrompeu do ventre materno,
9 When I put a cloud as the garment thereof, and a thick cloud as the swaddling-band thereof;
9 quando o vesti de nuvens e em densas trevas o envolvi,
10 And brake off for it my boundary, and fixed a bar and double doors;
10 quando fixei os seus limites e lhe coloquei portas e barreiras,
11 And saidHitherto, shalt thou come, and no further,and, here, shalt thou set a limit to the majesty of thy waves?
11 quando eu lhe disse: Até aqui você pode vir, além deste ponto não, aqui faço parar suas ondas orgulhosas?
12 Since thy days hast thou commanded the morning? or caused the dawn to know its place;
12 "Você já deu ordens à manhã ou mostrou à alvorada o seu lugar,
13 That it might lay hold of the wings of the earth, and the lawless be shaken out of it?
13 para que ela apanhasse a terra pelas pontas e sacudisse dela os ímpios?
14 It transformeth itself like the clay of a seal, so that things stand forth like one arrayed;
14 A terra toma forma como o barro sob o sinete; e tudo nela se vê como uma veste.
15 That their light may be withdrawn from the lawless, and, the lofty arm, be shivered.
15 Aos ímpios é negada a sua luz, e quebra-se o seu braço levantado.
16 Hast thou entered as far as the springs of the sea? Or, through the secret recesses of the resounding deep, hast thou wandered?
16 "Você já foi até às nascentes do mar, ou já passeou pelas obscuras profundezas do abismo?
17 Have the gates of death been disclosed to thee? And, the gates of the death-shade, couldst thou descry?
17 As portas da morte lhe foram mostradas? Você viu as portas das densas trevas?
18 Hast thou well considered, even the breadths of the earth? Tellif thou knowest it all!
18 Você faz idéia de quão imensas são as áreas da terra? Fale-me, se é que você sabe.
19 Where then is the way, the light shall abide? And, the darkness, where then is its place?
19 "Como se vai ao lugar onde mora a luz? E onde está a residência das trevas?
20 That thou mayest conduct it unto the bound thereof, and that thou mayest perceive the paths to its house.
20 Poderá você conduzi-las ao lugar que lhes pertence? Conhece o caminho da habitação delas?
21 Thou knowest, for, then, hadst thou been born! And, in number, thy days are many!
21 Vai ver que conhece, pois você já tinha nascido! Você já viveu tantos anos!
22 Hast thou entered into the treasuries of the snow? And, the treasuries of the hail, couldst thou see?
22 "Acaso você entrou nos reservatórios de neve, já viu os depósitos de saraiva,
23 Which I have reserved for a time of distress, for the day of conflict and of war?
23 que eu guardo para os períodos de tribulação, para os dias de guerra e de combate?
24 Where then is the way the lightning is parted? The east wind spreadeth itself abroad over the earth.
24 Qual o caminho por onde se repartem os relâmpagos? Onde é que os ventos orientais são distribuídos sobre a terra?
25 Who hath clovenfor the torrenta channel? Or a way for the lightning of thunders;
25 Quem é que abre um canal para a chuva torrencial, e um caminho para a tempestade trovejante,
26 To give rain over the no-mans land, the desert, where no son of earth is;
26 para fazer chover na terra em que não vive nenhum homem, no deserto onde não há ninguém,
27 To satisfy the wild and the wilderness, to cause to spring forth the meadow of young grass?
27 para matar a sede do deserto árido e nele fazer brotar vegetação?
28 Hath the rain a father? Or who hath begotten the drops of dew?
28 Acaso a chuva tem pai? Quem é o pai das gotas de orvalho?
29 Out of whose womb, came forth the ice? And, the hoar-frost of the heavens, who hath given it birth?
29 De que ventre materno vem o gelo? E quem dá à luz a geada que cai dos céus,
30 Like a stone, are the waters congealed, and, the face of the roaring deep, becometh firm!
30 quando as águas se tornam duras como pedra e a superfície do abismo se congela?
31 Canst thou bind the fetters of the Pleiades? Or, the bands of Orion, canst thou unloose?
31 "Você pode amarrar as lindas Plêiades? Pode afrouxar as cordas do Órion?
32 Canst thou bring forth the signs of the Zodiac each in its season? Or, the Bear and her Young, canst thou lead?
32 Pode fazer surgir no tempo certo as constelações ou fazer sair a Ursa com os seus filhotes?
33 Knowest thou, the statutes of the heavens? Or didst thou appoint his dominion over the earth?
33 Você conhece as leis dos céus? Voce pode determinar o domínio de Deus sobre a terra?
34 Canst thou lift up, to the thick cloud, thy voice, and the overflow of waters cover thee?
34 "Você é capaz de levantar a voz até às nuvens e cobrir-se com uma inundação?
35 Canst thou send forth the lightnings, so that they go, and say to thee, Behold us?
35 É você que envia os relâmpagos, e eles lhe dizem: ‘Aqui estamos’?
36 Who hath putinto cloud-formswisdom? Or who hath givento the meteorunderstanding?
36 Quem foi que deu sabedoria ao coração e entendimento à mente?
37 Who can count the thin clouds, in wisdom? And, the bottles of the heavens, who can empty out;
37 Quem é que tem sabedoria para avaliar as nuvens? Quem é capaz de despejar os cântaros de água dos céus,
38 When the dust is cast into a clod, and the lumps are bound together?
38 quando o pó se endurece e os torrões de terra grudam uns nos outros?
39 Wilt thou huntfor the Lionessprey? Or, the craving of the Strong Lion, wilt thou satisfy;
39 "É você que caça a presa para a leoa e satisfaz a fome dos leões,
40 When they settle down in dens, abide in covert, for lying in wait?
40 quando se agacham em suas tocas ou ficam à espreita no matagal?
41 Who prepareth for the Raven his nourishment,when his young onesunto GODcry out,
41 Quem dá alimento aos corvos quando os seus filhotes clamam a Deus e vagueiam por falta de comida?
