1 Learn then to imitate God as his beloved children,
1 Sede, pois, imitadores de Deus, como filhos muito amados.
2 and to lead lives of love, just as Christ also loved you and gave himself up for you, an offering and sacrifice unto God, for you, an offering and sacrifice unto God, for "an odor of sweetness."
2 Progredi na caridade, segundo o exemplo de Cristo, que nos amou e por nós se entregou a Deus como oferenda e sacrifício de agradável odor.
3 As for sexual vice and every kind of impurity or lust, it is unbecoming for you as Christians even to mention them;
3 Quanto à fornicação, à impureza, sob qualquer forma, ou à avareza, que disto nem se faça menção entre vós, como convém a santos.
4 so too with vulgarity and buffoonery and foolish jesting. Such words become you not, but rather thanksgiving.
4 Nada de obscenidades, de conversas tolas ou levianas, porque tais coisas não convêm; em vez disto, ações de graças.
5 For be well assured that no one guilty of fornication or impurity or covetousness which is idolatry, has any heritage in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
5 Porque sabei-o bem: nenhum dissoluto, ou impuro, ou avarento - verdadeiros idólatras! - terá herança no Reino de Cristo e de Deus.
6 Let no man deceive you with empty arguments, for it is these vices that bring down the wrath of God upon the sons of disobedience;
6 E ninguém vos seduza com vãos discursos. Estes são os pecados que atraem a ira de Deus sobre os rebeldes.
7 therefore do not become sharers with them.
7 Não vos comprometais com eles.
8 For you were once darkness, but are now in the Lord.
8 Outrora éreis trevas, mas agora sois luz no Senhor: comportai-vos como verdadeiras luzes.
9 Lead the life of children of light, for the fruit of the light consists in every kind of goodness and uprightness and truth.
9 Ora, o fruto da luz é bondade, justiça e verdade.
10 Examine carefully what is well pleasing to the Lord,
10 Procurai o que é agradável ao Senhor,
11 and have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of the darkness, but rather expose them.
11 e não tenhais cumplicidade nas obras infrutíferas das trevas; pelo contrário, condenai-as abertamente.
12 For it is a shame even to speak of the things that are done by such men in secret;
12 Porque as coisas que tais homens fazem ocultamente é vergonhoso até falar delas.
13 but all these things, when exposed, are by the light made manifest, and what is made manifest is light.
13 Mas tudo isto, ao ser reprovado, torna-se manifesto pela luz.
14 For this reason it is said, "Awake, thou sleeper! Arise from the dead; And Christ shall shine upon thee!"
14 E tudo o que se manifesta deste modo torna-se luz. Por isto {a Escritura} diz: Desperta, tu que dormes! Levanta-te dentre os mortos e Cristo te iluminará {Is 26,19; 60,1}!
15 See to it, then, that you carry on your life carefully; not as foolish, but as wise men.
15 Vigiai, pois, com cuidado sobre a vossa conduta: que ela não seja conduta de insensatos, mas de sábios
16 Buy up opportunity, for the times are evil.
16 que aproveitam ciosamente o tempo, pois os dias são maus.
17 For this reason do not be thoughtless, but learn to know what the Lords will is.
17 Não sejais imprudentes, mas procurai compreender qual seja a vontade de Deus.
18 Do not be drunk with wine, in which is riotous living, but drink deep in the Spirit,
18 Não vos embriagueis com vinho, que é uma fonte de devassidão, mas enchei-vos do Espírito.
19 when you talk together; with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and with all your hearts making music unto the Lord;
19 Recitai entre vós salmos, hinos e cânticos espirituais. Cantai e celebrai de todo o coração os louvores do Senhor.
20 and at all times for all things give thanks to God, the Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
20 Rendei graças, sem cessar e por todas as coisas, a Deus Pai, em nome de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo!
21 Submit yourselves one to another out of reverence for Christ.
21 Sujeitai-vos uns aos outros no temor de Cristo.
22 Wives likewise to their husbands as to the Lord,
22 As mulheres sejam submissas a seus maridos, como ao Senhor,
23 because a husband is the head of his wife even as Christ is head of the church, his body, which he saves.
23 pois o marido é o chefe da mulher, como Cristo é o chefe da Igreja, seu corpo, da qual ele é o Salvador.
24 But as the church submits itself to Christ, so also wives to their husbands in everything.
24 Ora, assim como a Igreja é submissa a Cristo, assim também o sejam em tudo as mulheres a seus maridos.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her,
25 Maridos, amai as vossas mulheres, como Cristo amou a Igreja e se entregou por ela,
26 in order that after cleansing her in the bath of baptism, he might sanctify her by his word,
26 para santificá-la, purificando-a pela água do batismo com a palavra,
27 so as to present her to himself, the church glorified, without spot or wrinkle or any such blemish; but on the contrary holy and faultless.
27 para apresentá-la a si mesmo toda gloriosa, sem mácula, sem ruga, sem qualquer outro defeito semelhante, mas santa e irrepreensível.
28 That is how husbands ought to love their wives, as they love their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
28 Assim os maridos devem amar as suas mulheres, como a seu próprio corpo. Quem ama a sua mulher, ama-se a si mesmo.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it as Christ does the church;
29 Certamente, ninguém jamais aborreceu a sua própria carne; ao contrário, cada qual a alimenta e a trata, como Cristo faz à sua Igreja -
30 for we are members of his body.
30 porque somos membros de seu corpo.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
31 Por isso, o homem deixará pai e mãe e se unirá à sua mulher, e os dois constituirão uma só carne {Gn 2,24}.
32 There is a deep mystery here - I am speaking of Christ and his church.
32 Este mistério é grande, quero dizer, com referência a Cristo e à Igreja.
33 But as for you individually, you must each one of you love his own wife exactly as if she were yourself; and the wife, on her part, should reverence her husband.
33 Em resumo, o que importa é que cada um de vós ame a sua mulher como a si mesmo, e a mulher respeite o seu marido.
