1 Bless, O my soul, the Lord. O Lord my God, thou art very great; with glory and majesty art thou clothed.
1 Todo o meu ser louve o S enhor . Ó S Estás vestido de glória e majestade,
2 Thou art he who wrappeth himself in light as with a garment; who stretcheth out the heavens like a curtain;
2 envolto num manto de luz. Estendes a cortina estrelada dos céus,
3 Who frameth of the waters the beams of his upperchambers; who maketh the clouds his chariot; who walketh along upon the wings of the wind:
3 pões as vigas de tua casa nas nuvens de chuva. Fazes das nuvens o teu carro de combate, cavalgas nas asas do vento.
4 Who maketh the winds his messengers; the flaming fire his ministers;
4 Os ventos são teus mensageiros, e as chamas de fogo, teus servos.
5 Who hath founded the earth upon her bases, that she should not be moved to all eternity.
5 Firmaste o mundo sobre seus alicerces, para que jamais seja abalado.
6 Thou hadst covered the deep as with a garment: above the mountains stood the waters.
6 Vestiste a terra com torrentes de água, com água que cobriu até os montes.
7 At thy rebuke they fled, at the voice of thy thunder they hastened away.
7 Por tua ordem, as águas fugiram; ao som de teu trovão, saíram correndo.
8 They ascended mountains; they went down valleys, unto the place which thou hadst founded for them.
8 Montes se ergueram e vales afundaram, ao nível que tu decretaste.
9 Bounds hast thou set which they cannot pass over, that they return not again to cover the earth.
9 Estabeleceste um limite para as águas, para que nunca mais cobrissem a terra.
10 Thou art he who sendeth springs into the valleys, between mountains they run along.
10 Fazes as fontes derramarem água nos vales, e os riachos correm entre os montes.
11 They give drink to all the beasts of the field: the wild asses quench thereon their thirst.
11 Todos os animais bebem dessa água, e os jumentos selvagens matam a sede.
12 By them have the fowls of the heaven ever their habitation, from between the branches they send forth their voice.
12 As aves fazem ninhos junto aos riachos e cantam entre os ramos das árvores.
13 Who watereth the mountains from his upperchambers: from the fruit of thy works is the earth satisfied.
13 De tua habitação celeste, envias chuva sobre os montes e enches a terra com o fruto do teu trabalho.
14 Thou art he who causeth grass to grow for the cattle, and herbs by the service of man, that he may bring forth bread out of the earth;
14 Fazes o pasto crescer para os animais, e as plantas, para as pessoas cultivarem. Permites que, da terra, colham seu alimento:
15 And wine that maketh joyful the heart of man, and oil to brighten his face, and bread which strengtheneth the heart of man.
15 vinho para alegrar o coração, azeite para fazer brilhar a pele, pão para dar forças.
16 Full of sap are the trees of the Lord, the cedars of Lebanon which he hath planted;
16 As árvores do S enhor são bem cuidadas, os cedros do Líbano que ele plantou.
17 Where the birds make their nests: the storkfirtrees are her house.
17 Nelas as aves fazem seus ninhos, nos ciprestes as cegonhas têm seu lar.
18 The high mountains are for the wild goats: the rocks are a shelter for the conies.
18 No alto dos montes vivem as cabras selvagens, nas rochas se escondem os coelhos silvestres.
19 He hath made the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.
19 Fizeste a lua para marcar as estações, e o sol sabe a hora de se pôr.
20 Thou causest darkness, and it becometh night, wherein creep forth all the beasts of the forest.
20 Envias a escuridão e se faz noite, quando vagueiam os animais do bosque.
21 The young lions roar after their prey, and ask from God their food.
21 Os leões jovens rugem por sua presa, saem à procura do alimento que Deus lhes provê.
22 The sun ariseth, they withdraw to their lairs, and lie down in their dens.
22 Ao amanhecer eles se recolhem, voltam à toca para descansar.
23 Man goeth then forth unto his work, and to his labor until the evening.
23 Então as pessoas saem para o serviço, onde trabalham até o entardecer.
24 How manifold are thy works, O Lord! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.
24 Ó S enhor , que variedade de coisas criaste! Fizeste todas elas com sabedoria; a terra está cheia de tuas criaturas.
25 Here is this great and wideextended sea; therein are moving things without number, living creatures both small and great.
25 Ali está o oceano, vasto e imenso, cheio de seres de todo tipo, grandes e pequenos.
26 There the ships make their way: there also is the leviathan, whom thou hast made to sport therein.
26 Por ele passam navios, e o Leviatã,
27 All of these wait upon thee, to give them their food in its due season.
27 Todos dependem de ti para lhes proveres o alimento de que necessitam.
28 What thou givest them they gather: thou openest thy hand, they are satisfied with good.
28 Quando tu lhes dás, eles o recolhem; abres a mão para alimentá-los, e eles ficam satisfeitos.
29 Thou hidest thy face, they suddenly vanish: thou takest away their spirit, they perish, and to their dust they return.
29 Se te afastas deles, porém, enchem-se de medo; quando lhes retiras o fôlego, morrem e voltam ao pó.
30 Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created; and thou renewest the face of the earth.
30 Quando sopras teu fôlego, novos seres são gerados, e renovas a face da terra.
31 The glory of the Lord will endure for ever; the Lord will rejoice in his works:
31 Que a glória do S enhor permaneça para sempre; o S
32 He who looketh down on the earth, and she trembleth; who toucheth the mountains, and they smoke.
32 Basta um olhar, e a terra estremece; com um simples toque, faz fumegar os montes.
33 I will sing unto the Lord while I live: I will sing praises to my God while I exist.
33 Cantarei ao S enhor enquanto viver, louvarei meu Deus até meu último suspiro.
34 May my speech be agreeable to him: I will indeed rejoice in the Lord.
34 Todos os meus pensamentos lhe sejam agradáveis; no S
35 May the sinners cease from off the earth, and the wicked be no more. Bless, O my soul, the Lord. Hallelujah.
35 Desapareçam da terra todos os pecadores, deixem de existir para sempre os perversos. Todo o meu ser louve o S Louvado seja o S
