1 My son, observe my sayings, and my commandments must thou treasure up with thee.
1 Meu filho, guarde as minhas palavras e conserve os meus mandamentos em seu coração.
2 Observe my commandments, and live: and my teaching as the apple of thy eyes.
2 Observe os meus mandamentos e você viverá; guarde a minha lei como a menina dos seus olhos.
3 Bind them around thy fingers, write them upon the table of thy heart.
3 Amarre-os aos dedos, escreva-os na tábua do seu coração.
4 Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:
4 Diga à Sabedoria: “Você é minha irmã”; e ao Entendimento: “Você é meu parente.”
5 That they may keep thee from an adulterous woman, from an alien that useth flattering speeches.
5 Eles o guardarão da mulher imoral, da estranha que lisonjeia com palavras.
6 For through the window of my house, through my lattice did I once look out,
6 Porque da janela da minha casa, olhando pela grade,
7 And I beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a lad void of sense;
7 vi entre os ingênuos, e descobri entre os jovens um que não tinha juízo.
8 He was passing through the marketplace near her corner; and he stepped along on the way to her house,
8 Ele ia e vinha pela rua junto à esquina da mulher estranha e seguia o caminho da casa dela,
9 In the twilight, in the evening of the day, in the depth of the night and when it was dark:
9 no crepúsculo, ao anoitecer, na escuridão da noite, nas trevas.
10 And, behold, a woman came to meet him with the attire of a harlot, and obdurate of heart.
10 Eis que a mulher lhe saiu ao encontro, com roupas de prostituta e astúcia no coração.
11 (She is noisy and ungovernable; in her house her feet never rest;
11 É espalhafatosa e inquieta; os seus pés não param em casa.
12 At one time she is in the street, at another in the open places, and near every corner doth she lurk,)
12 Ora está nas ruas, ora, nas praças, espreitando por todos os cantos.
13 And she caught hold of him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face she said to him,
13 Ela agarrou o jovem e o beijou; e com o maior descaramento lhe disse:
14 "I had bound myself to bring peaceofferings; this day have I paid my vows:
14 “Eu tinha de oferecer sacrifícios pacíficos; hoje paguei os meus votos.
15 Therefore am I come forth to meet thee, to seek thy presence diligently, and I have found thee.
15 Por isso, saí ao seu encontro; vim procurá-lo, e agora o encontrei!
16 With tapestry coverings have I decked my bed, with embroidered coverlids of the fine linen of Egypt.
16 Já cobri de colchas a minha cama, de linho fino do Egito, de várias cores.
17 I have sprinkled my couch with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
17 Já perfumei o meu leito com mirra, aloés e cinamomo.
18 Come, let us indulge in love until the morning: let us delight ourselves with dalliances.
18 Venha, vamos nos embriagar com as delícias do amor, até o amanhecer; gozemos amores.
19 For the man is not in his house, he is gone on a journey a great way off:
19 Porque o meu marido não está em casa; saiu de viagem para longe.
20 The bag of money hath he taken with him, by the day of the newmoon festival only will he come home."
20 Levou consigo uma bolsa cheia de dinheiro; não voltará para casa antes da lua cheia.”
21 She seduced him by the abundance of her reasoning: by the flattery of her lips she misguided him.
21 Ela o seduziu com as suas muitas palavras, com as lisonjas dos seus lábios o arrastou.
22 He followed after her suddenly, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, and as in fetters to his correction, the fool:
22 E, num instante, ele a seguiu, como um boi que vai para o matadouro; como um animal que corre para a armadilha,
23 Till an arrow cleaveth through his liver; as a bird hasteneth into the snare, and knoweth not that it is done to take his life.
23 até que uma flecha lhe atravesse o coração. Ele era como a ave que corre para dentro do alçapão, sem saber que isto lhe custará a vida.
24 And now, O children, hearken unto me, and listen to the sayings of my mouth.
24 Agora, meu filho, escute o que eu digo e dê atenção às palavras da minha boca.
25 Let not thy heart turn aside to her ways, do not go astray on her paths.
25 Não deixe que o seu coração se desvie para os caminhos dessa mulher, e não ande perdido nas suas veredas.
26 For many deadly wounded hath she caused to fall: yea, very numerous are all those slain by her.
26 Porque a muitos ela feriu e derrubou; e são muitos os que por ela foram mortos.
27 The ways to the nether world is her house leading down to the chambers of death.
27 A casa dela é caminho para o abismo e desce para as câmaras da morte.
