1 Make no boast for thyself of the coming day; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
1 Não conte vantagem a respeito dos seus planos para o futuro, pois você não sabe o que vai acontecer amanhã.
2 Let another man praise thee, and not thy own mouth; a stranger, and not thy own lips.
2 Ninguém elogie a si mesmo; se houver elogios, que venham dos outros.
3 A stone hath heaviness, and the sand, weight; but a fools wrath is heavier than both of them.
3 As pedras e a areia são pesadas, mas os problemas causados pelo mau gênio dos tolos pesam mais ainda.
4 Fury hath its cruelty, and anger its overwhelming power; but who is able to stand before jealousy?
4 O ódio é cruel e destruidor, mas a inveja é pior ainda.
5 Better is open reproof than concealed love.
5 É melhor a crítica franca do que o amor sem franqueza.
6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but deceptive are the kisses of an enemy.
6 O amigo quer o nosso bem, mesmo quando nos fere; mas, quando um inimigo abraçar você, tome cuidado!
7 The satisfied soul treadeth under foot fine honey; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
7 Quem está com o estômago cheio rejeita até o mel; mas, para quem está com fome, até a comida amarga é doce.
8 As a bird that wandereth away from her nest, so is a man that wandereth away from his place.
8 Uma pessoa longe de casa é como um pássaro longe do ninho.
9 Oil and perfume cause the heart to rejoice, and so do the sweet words of a friend more than ones own counsel.
9 Assim como os perfumes alegram a vida, a amizade sincera dá ânimo para viver.
10 Thy own friend, and thy fathers friend, thou must not forsake; but into thy brothers house enter not on the day of thy calamity: better is a near neighbor than a distant brother.
10 Não abandone o seu amigo, nem o amigo do seu pai. Se você estiver em dificuldades, não peça ajuda ao seu irmão. Vale mais um vizinho perto do que um irmão longe.
11 Become wise, my son, and cause my heart to rejoice, that I may give an answer to him that reproacheth me.
11 Seja sábio, meu filho; então eu serei feliz e saberei dar uma boa resposta a quem me criticar.
12 The prudent foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.
12 A pessoa sensata vê o perigo e se esconde, mas a insensata vai em frente e acaba mal.
13 Take his garment, for he became surety for a stranger; and on account of an alien woman take a pledge of him.
13 Quem aceita ser fiador de um estranho deve dar a sua roupa como garantia de pagamento.
14 When one saluteth his friend with a loud voice, when rising early in the morning, it will be counted a curse to him.
14 Quando alguém acorda um amigo de manhã bem cedo com um grito de “bom-dia!”, o seu cumprimento soa como uma maldição.
15 A continual dropping on a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.
15 A esposa briguenta é como um dia triste em que a chuva não para de cair.
16 He that would conceal her might conceal the wind, and as fragrant oil on his right hand, which would betray itself.
16 O que é que você pode fazer para que ela fique calada? Você já procurou fazer o vento parar ou tentou pegar óleo com a mão?
17 Iron is sharpened by iron: so doth a man sharpen himself on the countenance of his friend.
17 As pessoas aprendem umas com as outras, assim como o ferro afia o próprio ferro.
18 Whoso guardeth the figtree will eat its fruit: so he that watcheth over his master will be honored.
18 Cuide bem da sua figueira e você terá figos para comer; trate bem o seu patrão e você será recompensado.
19 As the water showeth to the face the reflected face: so doth the heart of man show itself to man.
19 Assim como a água reflete o rosto da gente, o coração mostra o que a pessoa é.
20 The nether world and the place of corruption are never satisfied: so are the eyes of man never satisfied.
20 Os desejos das pessoas são como o mundo dos mortos : sempre há lugar para mais um.
21 As the finingpot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: so is a man proved according to his praise.
21 Assim como o ouro e a prata são provados pelo fogo, o bom nome de uma pessoa também pode ser posto à prova.
22 Though thou shouldst pound the fool in a mortar, in the midst of grains of wheat with a pestle: still would his folly not depart from him.
22 Mesmo que você batesse num tolo até quase matá-lo, ainda assim ele continuaria tão tolo como antes.
23 Endeavor to know well the appearance of thy flocks, direct thy attention to thy herds;
23 Cuide das suas ovelhas e do seu gado o melhor que puder
24 For property endureth not for ever, nor doth the crown remain for all generations.
24 porque tanto as riquezas como os governos não duram para sempre.
25 When the grass is past, young verdure showeth itself, and then are gathered the herbs of the mountains.
25 Primeiro você corta o feno ; depois corta o capim dos montes enquanto espera que o feno cresça de novo.
26 The sheep are for thy clothing, and hegoats are the purchaseprice of a field.
26 Aí você pode fazer roupas com a lã das suas ovelhas e comprar mais terras com o dinheiro que ganhou com a venda de alguns cabritos.
27 And thou wilt have enough of goats milk for thy food, for the food of thy household, and the support for thy maidens.
27 E as cabras darão leite com fartura para você, e para a sua família, e também para as suas empregadas.
