1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is noisy; and whosoever indulgeth therein will never be wise.
1 O vinho é zombador e a bebida forte causa alvoroço; todo aquele que é vencido por eles não é sábio.
2 Like the roaring of a young lion is the dread of a king: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.
2 A fúria do rei é como o rugido do leão; quem o provoca peca contra a própria vida.
3 It is an honor for a man to cease from a contest; but every fool enrageth himself.
3 É uma honra para alguém ficar longe de conflitos, mas os insensatos envolvem-se neles.
4 Because it is winters cold, will the sluggard not plough: when he therefore seeketh in the harvest time, there will be nothing.
4 O preguiçoso não ara as terras porque é inverno; por isso, no tempo da colheita, procura e não encontra nada.
5 Like deep water is counsel in the heart of man; but the man of understanding will draw it out.
5 Os propósitos do coração humano são como águas profundas, mas quem é inteligente sabe como trazê-los à tona.
6 Most men will proclaim every one his own kindness; but who can find a faithful man?
6 Muitos proclamam a sua própria bondade, mas alguém que é digno de confiança, quem o achará?
7 The righteous walketh in his integrity: happy will be his children after him.
7 O justo anda na sua integridade; felizes são os seus filhos depois dele.
8 A king that sitteth on the throne of justice scattereth away with his eyes all evil.
8 Quando o rei se assenta no trono para julgar, com os seus olhos dispersa todo mal.
9 Who can say, I have made my heart pure, I am cleansed from my sin.
9 Quem pode dizer: “Purifiquei o meu coração; estou limpo do meu pecado”?
10 Divers weights, and divers measures, are both of them alike an abomination of the Lord.
10 O Senhor detesta o uso de dois pesos e duas medidas; ele detesta tanto uma coisa quanto a outra.
11 Even a child maketh himself known by his doings, whether his work will be pure, and whether it will be upright.
11 Até a criança se dá a conhecer pelas suas ações, se o que faz é puro e reto.
12 The ear that heareth, and the eye that seeth, the Lord hath made both of them alike.
12 O ouvido que ouve e o olho que vê, o tanto um como o outro.
13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty: open thy eyes, so wilt thou be satisfied with bread.
13 Não ame o sono, para que você não empobreça; abra os olhos e você terá pão de sobra.
14 It is bad, it is bad, saith the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then doth he boast.
14 “Não presta! Não vale tanto!” — diz o comprador; mas, quando vai embora, então se gaba do negócio que fez.
15 There is gold, and a multitude of pearls; but a precious vessel are the lips of knowledge.
15 Há ouro e abundância de pérolas, mas palavras que transmitem conhecimento são joia preciosa.
16 Take away his garment, because he hath become surety for a stranger; and on account of a strange woman take a pledge from him.
16 Que se tome a roupa daquele que fica por fiador de um estranho; que ela sirva de penhor, quando ele se compromete por estrangeiros.
17 Bread of falsehood is pleasant to a man; but afterward his mouth will be filled with gravelstones.
17 O pão que se ganha com fraude pode ser gostoso, mas depois a boca se encherá de areia.
18 Plans are established by counsel; and with wise reflection conduct war.
18 Os planos são estabelecidos mediante os conselhos; faça a guerra com prudência.
19 He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that enticeth with his lips.
19 O mexeriqueiro revela os segredos; portanto, não se meta com quem fala demais.
20 Whoso curseth his father or his motherhis lamp shall be quenched in obscure darkness.
20 Se alguém amaldiçoa o seu pai ou a sua mãe, a sua lâmpada se apagará na mais densa escuridão.
21 An inheritance hastily gotten at the beginning will at its end not be blessed,
21 A posse antecipada de uma herança no fim não será abençoada.
22 Do not say, I will recompense evil; but wait on the Lord, and he will help thee.
22 Não diga: “Vou me vingar do mal”; espere no
23 Divers weights are an abomination of the Lord; and a deceitful balance is not good.
23 O Senhor detesta o uso de dois pesos, e uma balança desonesta não é boa.
24 From the Lord are the steps of man ordained; but man how can he understand his own way?
24 Os passos de cada pessoa são dirigidos pelo como poderá alguém entender o seu próprio caminho?
25 It is a snare to a man to sanctify things hastily, and to make inquiry only after having made vows.
25 É uma armadilha dizer precipitadamente: “Isto é santo!”, e só refletir depois de fazer o voto.
26 A wise king scattereth the wicked, and turneth over them the threshingwheel.
26 O rei sábio peneira os maus e faz passar sobre eles a roda.
27 A lamp of the Lord is the soul of man, searching all the inner chambers of the body.
27 O espírito do ser humano é a lâmpada do a qual examina o mais profundo do seu ser.
28 Kindness and truth will watch over a king, and he will prop up through kindness his throne.
28 Bondade e fidelidade preservam o rei; é com bondade que ele sustém o seu trono.
29 The ornament of young men is their strength; and the glory of old men is a hoary head.
29 A glória dos jovens é a sua força, e a beleza dos velhos são os seus cabelos brancos.
30 The bruises of a wound are cleansing means for the bad, and stripes will reach the inner chambers of the body.
30 Os vergões das feridas purificam do mal, e os açoites limpam o mais íntimo do corpo.
