1 After this time Job opened his mouth, and cursed his day.
1 Depois disso abriu Jó a sua boca, e amaldiçoou o seu dia.
2 And Job commenced, and said,
2 E Jó falou, dizendo:
3 Oh that the day whereon I was born might perish, and the night when it was said, There hath been a male child conceived.
3 Pereça o dia em que nasci, e a noite que se disse: Foi concebido um homem!
4 May that day be covered with darkness; may not God from above inquire for it, and may no light beam upon it.
4 Converta-se aquele dia em trevas; e Deus, lá de cima, não tenha cuidado dele, nem resplandeça sobre ele a luz.
5 Oh that darkness and the shadow of death might defile it; may a cloud rest upon it; may the blackness of the day terrify it.
5 Reclamem-no para si as trevas e a sombra da morte; habitem sobre ele nuvens; espante-o tudo o que escurece o dia.
6 Yon nightlet darkness seize upon it; let it not be united to the days of the year; let it not come into the number of the periods lighted by the moon.
6 Quanto àquela noite, dela se apodere a escuridão; e não se regozije ela entre os dias do ano; e não entre no número dos meses.
7 Lo, may that night be solitary, let no song of joy occur thereon.
7 Ah! que estéril seja aquela noite, e nela não entre voz de regozijo.
8 Let those denounce it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning cry.
8 Amaldiçoem-na aqueles que amaldiçoam os dias, que são peritos em suscitar o leviatã.
9 Let the stars of its twilight be darkened; let it hope for light, and there be none; and let it not behold the eyelids of the morningdawn;
9 As estrelas da alva se lhe escureçam; espere ela em vão a luz, e não veja as pálpebras da manhã;
10 Because God closed not against me the doors of the womb, and thus concealed trouble from my eyes.
10 porquanto não fechou as portas do ventre de minha mãe, nem escondeu dos meus olhos a aflição.
11 Why did I not die the moment I issued from the womb, and why was I not born merely to perish at once?
11 Por que não morri ao nascer? por que não expirei ao vir à luz?
12 Wherefore were knees ready to receive me? and for what purpose were breasts there that I might suck?
12 Por que me receberam os joelhos? e por que os seios, para que eu mamasse?
13 For now should I be lying still and be quiet; I should sleep: then would I be at rest,
13 Pois agora eu estaria deitado e quieto; teria dormido e estaria em repouso,
14 With kings and counsellors of the earth, who build up ruined places for themselves;
14 com os reis e conselheiros da terra, que reedificavam ruínas para si,
15 Or with princes possessing gold, who fill their houses with silver;
15 ou com os príncipes que tinham ouro, que enchiam as suas casas de prata;
16 Or as an untimely birth, hidden from view I should not exist; as infants that never have seen the light;
16 ou, como aborto oculto, eu não teria existido, como as crianças que nunca viram a luz.
17 There where the wicked cease from troubling; and where the exhausted weary are at rest;
17 Ali os ímpios cessam de perturbar; e ali repousam os cansados.
18 Where the prisoners repose together, and they hear no more the taskmasters voice.
18 Ali os presos descansam juntos, e não ouvem a voz do exator.
19 The small with the great is there, and the servant free from his master.
19 O pequeno e o grande ali estão e o servo está livre de seu senhor.
20 Wherefore giveth He now light to the laborladen, and life unto the bitter in soul?
20 Por que se concede luz ao aflito, e vida aos amargurados de alma;
21 Who wait for death, which cometh not; and who dig for it sooner than for hidden treasures;
21 que anelam pela morte sem que ela venha, e cavam em procura dela mais do que de tesouros escondidos;
22 Who would rejoice even to exulting, who would be glad could they but find a grave?
22 que muito se regozijam e exultam, quando acham a sepultura?
23 Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, and around whom God hath placed a fence?
23 Sim, por que se concede luz ao homem cujo caminho está escondido, e a quem Deus cercou de todos os lados?
24 For before my food cometh my groaning, and like the water are poured forth my loud complaints.
24 Pois em lugar de meu pão vem o meu suspiro, e os meus gemidos se derramam como água.
25 Because what I greatly dreaded is come upon me, and what I apprehended is come unto me.
25 Porque aquilo que temo me sobrevém, e o que receio me acontece.
26 I have had no safety, and no quiet, and no rest; and now harrowing trouble is come.
26 Não tenho repouso, nem sossego, nem descanso; mas vem a perturbação.
