1 Lo, all this hath my eye seen, my ear hath heard and noted it for itself;
1 Meus olhos viram todas essas coisas, meus ouvidos as ouviram e as guardaram;
2 As much as ye know, do I also know: I do not fall short compared with you.
2 aquilo que vós sabeis, eu também o sei, não vos sou inferior em nada.
3 However, I would gladly speak to the Almighty; and to argue with God do I desire.
3 Mas é com o Todo-poderoso que eu desejaria falar, é com Deus que eu desejaria discutir,
4 But ye are inventors of falsehood, physicians of no value are all of you.
4 pois vós não sois mais que impostores, não sois senão médicos que não prestam para nada.
5 Oh, who would grant that ye might keep a profound silences! and it would he accounted unto you as wisdom.
5 Se pudésseis guardar silêncio, tomar-vos-iam por sábios.
6 Do hearken but to my reasoning, and listen to the pleadings of my lips.
6 Escutai, pois, minha defesa, atendei aos quesitos que vou anunciar.
7 Will ye speak wrong things for God? and will ye speak for him deceitfully?
7 Para defender Deus, ireis dizer mentiras. Será preciso enganardes em seu favor?
8 Will ye show him undue favor, when ye contend for God?
8 Tereis, para com ele, juízos preconcebidos, e vos arvorais em ser seus advogados?
9 Will it be well if he should search you out? or as one overreacheth another mortal, do ye expect to overreach him?
9 Seria, porventura, bom que ele vos examinasse? Iríeis enganá-lo como se engana um homem?
10 He will surely reprove you, if in secret you show him undue favor.
10 Ele não deixará de vos castigar, se tomardes seu partido ocultamente.
11 Doth not his excellency terrify you? and his dread fall upon you?
11 Sua majestade não vos atemorizará? Seus terrores não vos esmagarão?
12 The things you remember are mere proverbs of ashes, your highplaces are highplaces of clay.
12 Vossos argumentos são razões de poeira, vossas dilapidações são obras de barro.
13 Keep silence toward me, that I may indeed speak, and let pass over me what will.
13 Calai-vos! Deixai-me! Quero falar: aconteça depois o que acontecer!
14 Whatever it may cost, I will take my flesh in my teeth, and my life will I put in my hand.
14 Lacero a minha carne com os meus dentes, ponho minha vida em minha mão.
15 Lo, though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: only I will argue my own ways before him.
15 Se ele me mata, nada mais tenho a esperar, e assim mesmo defenderei minha causa diante dele.
16 Even he will come to my assistance; for a hypocrite cannot come before him.
16 Isso já será minha salvação, que o ímpio não seja admitido em sua presença.
17 Listen well to my word, and to my demonstration with your ears.
17 Escutai, pois, meu discurso, dai ouvido às minhas explicações;
18 Behold now, I have arrayed my cause: I know that I shall be indeed justified.
18 estou pronto para defender minha causa, sei que sou eu quem tem razão.
19 Who is he that will contend with me? for now, if I keep silence, I must perish.
19 Se alguém quiser demandar contra mim no mesmo instante desejarei calar e morrer.
20 Only two things do not unto me: then will I not hide myself from thy presence.
20 Poupai-me apenas duas coisas! E não me esconderei de tua face:
21 Remove thy hand far from me; and let not thy dread terrify me.
21 afasta de sobre mim a tua mão, põe um termo ao medo de teus terrores.
22 Then call thou, and I will answer; or let me speak, and do thou reply to me.
22 Chama por mim, e eu te responderei; ou então, falarei eu, e tu terás a réplica.
23 How many are my iniquities and sins? my transgression and my sin let me know.
23 Quantas faltas e pecados cometi eu? Dá-me a conhecer minhas faltas e minhas ofensas.
24 Wherefore wilt thou hide thy face, and regard me as an enemy unto thee?
24 Por que escondes de mim a tua face, e por que me consideras como um inimigo?
25 Wilt thou terrify a leaf driven about by the wind? and wilt thou pursue dry stubble?
25 Queres, então, assustar uma folha levada pelo vento, ou perseguir uma folha ressequida?
26 That thou writest bitter decrees against me, and assignest unto me the iniquities of my youth;
26 Pois queres ditar contra mim amargas sentenças, e queres que me sejam imputadas as faltas de minha mocidade,
27 And that thou puttest my feet in the stocks, and watchest narrowly all my paths; and settest for thyself a mark upon the soles of my feet?
27 queres enfiar os meus pés no cepo, espiar todos os meus passos, e contar os rastos de meus pés?
28 And yet the body decayeth like a rotten thing, as a garment that the moth hath eaten.
28 {E ele se gasta como um pau bichado, como um tecido devorado pela traça}.
