1 As snow in summer and as rain in harvest, so honour is not suited for a fool.
1 Como neve no verão e chuva na colheita, assim a honra é imprópria para o tolo.
2 As the sparrow in its wandering, as the swallow in its flight, so the curse causeless shall never come.
2 Como o pardal que alça voo e a andorinha que atravessa o céu, a maldição imerecida não pousa sobre quem ela é dirigida.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.
3 Conduza o cavalo com o chicote, o jumento com o freio e o tolo com a vara nas costas.
4 Never answer a fool according to his folly lest thou also be like unto him.
4 Não responda aos argumentos insensatos do tolo, para que não se torne tolo como ele.
5 Answer the fool showing him his folly lest he be wise in his own conceit.

6 He that gives responsibility to one who is not able to carry it out [is like] him that sends a message by the hand of a fool, and he shall drink the damage.
6 Confiar ao tolo a responsabilidade de transmitir uma mensagem é como cortar o próprio pé ou beber veneno.
7 Like unto the way that the [one who is] lame walks, so [is] a proverb in the mouth of the fool.
7 Um provérbio na boca do tolo é tão inútil quanto uma perna paralisada.
8 As he that binds the stone in the sling, so [is] he that gives honour to a fool.
8 Honrar o tolo é tão insensato quanto amarrar a pedra à atiradeira.
9 [As] thorns sunk into the hand of one who is drunk, so [is] a proverb in the mouth of fools.
9 Um provérbio na boca do tolo é como um ramo cheio de espinhos na mão de um bêbado.
10 The great [God]that formed all [things] rewards both the fool and transgressors.
10 Quem contrata um tolo ou o primeiro que passa é como o arqueiro que atira ao acaso.
11 As a dog returns to his vomit, [so] the fool returns to his folly.
11 Como o cão volta a seu vômito, assim o tolo repete sua insensatez.
12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? [there is] more hope of a fool than of him.
12 Há mais esperança para o tolo que para aquele que se considera sábio.
13 The slothful [man] saith, [There is] a lion in the way; a lion [is] in the streets.
13 O preguiçoso diz: “Há um leão no caminho! Tenho certeza de que há um leão lá fora!”.
14 [As] the door turns upon his hinges, so [does] the slothful upon his bed.
14 Como a porta gira nas dobradiças, assim o preguiçoso se revira na cama.
15 The slothful hides his hand in [his] bosom; it grieves him to bring it again to his mouth.
15 O preguiçoso pega a comida na mão, mas não se dá o trabalho de levá-la à boca.
16 The sluggard [is] wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can give [him] counsel.
16 O preguiçoso se considera mais esperto que sete conselheiros sábios.
17 He that passes by [and] meddles with strife not [belonging] to him [is like] one that takes a dog by the ears.
17 Meter-se em discussão alheia é como puxar um cachorro pelas orelhas.
18 As a mad [man] who casts firebrands, arrows, and death,
18 O louco que atira com arma mortal causa tanto estrago
19 so [is] the man [that] destroys his friend and says, Am I not in sport?
19 quanto quem mente para um amigo e depois diz: “Estava só brincando!”.
20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out, so where [there is] no talebearer, the strife ceases.
20 Sem lenha, o fogo apaga; sem intrigas, as brigas cessam.
21 Charcoal for burning coals and wood for fire, and a contentious man to kindle strife.
21 Como as brasas acendem o carvão e o fogo acende a lenha, assim o briguento provoca conflitos.
22 The words of a talebearer seem smooth, but they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
22 Calúnias são como petiscos saborosos que descem até o íntimo de quem ouve.
23 Burning lips and a wicked heart [are like] a potsherd covered with silver dross.
23 Palavras suaves podem esconder um coração perverso, como uma camada de esmalte cobre o vaso de barro.
24 He that hates dissembles with his lips and lays up deceit within him;
24 As pessoas podem encobrir o ódio com palavras agradáveis, mas isso não passa de engano.
25 when he speaks fair, do not believe him, for [there are] seven abominations in his heart.
25 Ainda que pareçam amáveis, não acredite nelas; seu coração está cheio de maldade.
26 Even though his hatred is covered up in the desert, his wickedness shall be showed before the [whole] congregation.
26 Mesmo que escondam o ódio dissimuladamente, sua maldade será exposta em público.
27 Whosoever digs a pit shall fall therein, and he that rolls a stone, it will return upon him.
27 Quem prepara uma armadilha para outros nela cairá; quem rola uma pedra sobre outros por ela será esmagado.
28 A lying tongue hates [those that are] afflicted by it, and a flattering mouth works ruin.:
28 A língua mentirosa odeia suas vítimas; palavras bajuladoras causam ruína.
